Re: UK Herrings. Norfolk and Manchester

Update,
William John Herring's parents were John Herring and a Sarah Fox who married 23.08.1844 in st Andrew's Parish Church, Tottington, Norfolk UK. Sarah was daughter to William Fox, a saddler from Watton a few miles away. John Herring was the shoemaker/cordwainer to the village and was born in 1816 in Tottington to William Herring the cordwainer also. This William was also the Parish Clerk on the 1861 census and married a Mary Crook in 1815, again in Tottington. I have photos of their gravestones.
William Herring died in 1866 aged 80, his wife died in 1874 aged 90! Williamd father was John Herring and if the Parish records relate to the same man he seems to have married 3 times!
I copied much of the Tottington Parish records relating to the surname HERRING in the archives at Norwich.

Herring DNA Test

Recently my husband Bob Herring took the DNA test. He thought that his line was from John Herring 1620 Isle of Wight VA. The DNA test says he is of a different Herring line. So our limb has been chopped from that tree. We have proved that he is related to Samuel Herring, Sr. of New Hanover, NC. Samuels will was probated 1829. In the will he list his children: John Jones Herring,(my husbands line) Samuel Shepard Herring, James, William, Martha Browing, Dicey Bourdeax, Ann Rogers & Elizabeth

My husbands decent is as follows:
Samuel Herring, Sr. died 1829
John Jones Herring born 1775 North Carolina
John Bright Herring b. 1810 north Carolina
William Haywood Herring b. 1843 North Carolina
Robert Clinton Herring b. 1887 Alabama
Robert Perry Herring, Sr.1930 Alabama
Robert Perry Herring, Jr.

Dallas Herring & Fred Hintze had helped us make a connection to the John herring Isle of Wight. Seems now according to the DNA test that connection was in error. If you are of the above mentioned Samuel Herring, Sr, line. you might want to rethink your connection to the John Herring Isle of Wight. If there is anyone who knows to which Herring Tree the above names connect to, please let me know,

I believe you live south of the border. I also believe I have found your half-sister. I don't know how else to try and find you than to go to genealogy boards and hope you still read them.

Sally Anderson Gooodson, granddaughter of Sallie Rouse Herring Anderson

I believe you may be referring to my uncle. Unfortunately my dad's family was not a close group but I found his obituary on line a few years back. Part of it is below and it seems the timeline is right.

SABILLASVILLE, Md. - Lemmie Herring, 73, died Tuesday, Oct. 29, 1996, at his home. Born Dec. 1, 1922, in Darlington, N.C., he was the son of the late Derrick and Nettie Hilliard Herring. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served from November 1939 to July 1962, when he retired with the rank of sergeant 1st class. He later was employed by the Civil Service at Site "R" for 21 years before retiring in 1988.

DNA research says Herring and all its derivatives is Scotch. However, there were immigrants to the US who were even gypsys and Germans, as well as Irish and most often English. Herrin in German is the masculine form of "men". Herren is the feminine. German Herrin most likely came from Denmark via the Vikings who conquored much of Great Britain and coastal Europe.

J. T. Herring

I am searching for a J. T. Herring who married Amanda A. Stephenson, b 1839 in Indiana. I believe he could have been her 3rd husband, and she could have been listed as Amanda Lutz. She was in the 1860 census as living with her 1st husband, John McGrew, in Ft. Dodge, Webster Co, Iowa, in her parent's home. Then in the 1900 census, she is in Des Moines, Polk Co, Iowa with her 2nd husband, John Lutz.
Any information will be greatly appreciated, as I have hit a brick wall.
Edna

I was researching some family history and found your post. Of course I doubt that we are directly related, however I come from a long line of Herrings in my area. My father passed away at a young age of colon cancer. Because he was only middle aged cancer experts suggested there was a further link related to genetics. Colon cancer can be associated with a particular genetic risk for pancreatic and female cancers. After my father was diagnosed I went back and discovered several other ancestors who had similar types of cancer. Make sure you get checked at an early age if you see signs.
