My great grandmother was Amelia Persun, married John Davis Clark. They lived in Lycoming Co., PA until about 1880 when they moved to Wisconsin. They are buried in the Oregon, WI cemetery.
I believe her father was Evan Persun. This family is one of my dead ends. I know there is some history of them in the Lycoming Co History book but I do Not have access to it and it's out of my price range to buy. If this is the same family I would be glad to share what little info I have with you.

Jo Kyle

Does anyone know if this Jacob Herman had any cousins named Fredrich, Heinrich, and George? Fred, and Henry lived in WA state and George and his wife lived in CO. My Jacob HERRMAN was supposed to marry Maria Katrina LEONHARDT but never did. He brought her here from Frank, Russia to marry her and when she married my grandfather instead, Jacob moved to Russell, Bazine, KS and supposedly lived there all his life. Anyone know anything about this Jacob HERRMAN or his cousins above?
Lee
lgarcia@ncia.com

Recently I was doing some online research and discovered that at the hospital where one of my ancestors died (the Oregon State Metal Hospital) there are thousands of unclaimed family members sitting around in storage as cremated remains. I have obtained a list of the names on the marked urns and I am more than happy to find out if any of your family from the late 1800s to 1970 are on the list so you can go and claim them. Here are the Hermann related names I found on the list:
HERMANN, W. Oscar 2G 1/24/1915
HERRMAN, Isaac 2G 10/4/1921
HURMAN, E.W. 1G 2/23/1902

My name is Herrmann, but I'm told that the extra "r"was added later. Many records I have located spell the name Herrman. My ancestors are from Alsace-Lorraine. My immigrant ancestor is Henry Herrman b. 28 Aug. 1813. He married in New York City, Sarah Ann Snethen and had 11 children. They removed to Pa sometime before 1870, as Henry, his wife, two sons and two grand-daughter's appear on The Montgomery County, PA cenus. Since Montgomery county and Lancaster county are so close I thought there might be a connection?

I have no direct information to link my ancestors to yours. However, there could be the possibility that Heinrich Herrmann and Frank Joseph Herrmann were brothers or cousins, or related in some way. If I knew when Heinrich immigrated, I could check ships lists for a possible match, but I have a ten year window of possibility on an immigration year. I know nothing about the family before he arrived in America, except that he was from Alsace-Lorraine, and supposedly descended from Arminius (Hermann der Cherusker), a German national hero who lived 18 B.C.- 19 A.D. He is famous for kicking the Romans butts in the Tuetoburger Wald, (His tribes killed 3 Legions of the Roman army in one battle!) and thus pretty much stopped the Roman expansion any further West into Germania. I have no proof of this (ancestry) and neither do German genealogists, as there's not many records from 18 B.C.! Someone in my family must have related the Herrmann line with him, as he is the first known bearer of the surname. The meaning of Herrmann is Army Man, or soldier. Also, supposedly, the family helmet and shield was donated to the Smithsonian Institute, but again, there's no documented proof. Other than that, I only have information on my Herrmann's (which are really Herrman - the extra n was added in the 1900's) in America, and not even much of that! If I find any link I will let you know. I keep a folder on any unrelated Herrmann info I find.

Why PA?

I'm no expert, but it could possibly be that almost as may people came through the port of Philadelphia as the port of New York, during the massive German exodus'. Also, PA has had large German settlements, such as Germantown in Philadelphia and the PA Dutch country since the 1600's. Additionally, many Germans were farmers, and PA soil is ideal for farming. The Amish in LAncaster County, PA yeild three times more than their counterparts in Ohio and Indiania. Philadelphia is the birthplace of America. If I can think of anymore reasons why people live in the great state of Pennsylvanis, I'll let you know. I was a 30 year resident!

Hi-- looking for Hermans who came to Evansville, IN, and married into the Bangert and Zuber families. Specifically Carl Herman who married Maria Barbara Bangert and a Henry Herman who married Mary/Maria Zuber Fischer. I don't know if these two Hermans are related or not. Thanks. Helen Zuber Keusch gkeusch@psci.net
