I have a distant relative who fought in the American Revolution named Isaac Herron who was from NC. My records indicate he married one Nancy Shotwell and they had about 7 or 8 children. I do think, however, had been married once before and I am not sure of the first wifes' name. Isaac and Nancy named one of their daughters "Deste" and this is the name I gave to my daughter who was born in 1984. Your post is a bit dated but if you have any information to share I would be happy to compare notes.
Best regards
Jo

My grannies both had Ky roots & thought they had kin in common, but no disclosures were forthcoming from either.
Tracking the "unk" women in my trees, I finally was able to get some mtDNA results pointing to an exact match to Lucinda Angelo...the lst time I'd heard the name. Since my mother's maternal line was Carter/Barton/Moore/Love (with variations of Love/all etc...Anyway, the Carters and Bartons went from Knox/Whitley/Bell etc Ky counties, in 1870, to Pike/Washington Indiana; where it appeared that maybe one of the Carter's had married a Phillips. The Bartons had kin in PA, & Mr Phillips did too. They'd returned to Knox Co.,Ky (Indian Creek)by 1880 and the census showed a lg family, with my G-gmtr, Lydia/Liddie Ann Carter in the Wm J.Carter-Susan Melena Barton hh with other siblings. Wm J. was the s/o Isaac Carter & Nancy J.Walters and there were also a lot of Heltons & Elliots involved. There was a family of Angelos, in nearby Harlan Co., but, nothing said about them within what I've seen in with these families. Fast-fwd...1900 these Carters/Bartons are in Hunt Co.,TX. Rand & Lydia Carter(?) show two boys, b:Ky one went by Tom, the other, Wolford. My grandmtr, was born in Fannin Co., 1901. By 1910 they all showed up back in Bell Co.,Ky (Btw'n Knox Co.,Ky & the TN line..it was cut from Knox. The spellings of the names were garbled, but there was no mistake of my Gmtr and her siblings, she b:Tx and the rest, KY. Ok, next is how it fits with yours..or not; but, it must, in some way, I think. The 1920 Census shows Lydia back in TX with her kids, in the JE Story hh, as his housekeeper..in Titus or Upshur Co..by 1930 she & her family were out of the picture..and nobody knows or says what happened, except that she and Mr Story got a marraige license, 1928, in Daingerfield, Morris Co., TX, the county over..Lydia was in Cass Co 1918, as Wofford gave her as his next of kin on his Army Reg., made in Linden Cass Co.,TX. Now, here's the thing, Mr Story had several women involved in his life, Settles, Hampton, Herron and there's still some of these families in the area; yet, no one seems to know much abt anything. Mr Story had his oldest dtr as his next of kin, on his Army Reg..and she was a Settles. Then he had a son, both his children had handicaps. Ms Herron (married name)had moved as a widow to TX, with some children I think..I have more on them and there's info in the Rootsweb trees, too, with JE Story. I couldn't figure out all that, or what happened to the missing spouses, etc..Mr Story ended up with the mother of his lst dtr, Mrs Settles, in Cass Co., in the 1930 Census, & then he and the boy were burned to death in a fire, 1931 I think. Well, Lydia is in my mtdna line, as Carter, even after being married..maybe into another line of Carters.
And her mother was Barton, who's mother was Moore, who's mother was Love. So where did Angelo fit in...or the others that show up as having a common ancestor, somewhere in my past..Rapier, that goes with Carter/Elliot/Heltons so that's not so far fetched...then the Angelos were a county over, in Ky..then I saw where the Heltons went to KS and I have a Fogle/el name, that comes from the area near the top of the Italian Peninsula boot..but, Lucinda Angelo's and my own mtdna results are an exact match, so we definately share genes...but, how? A puzzle on Lydia's husband, as they were in the Census as Carter..Castor in Bell Co...but all the names were messed up. Could it be that my Gmtr, born in Fannin Co, has something unknown abt the circumstances...I just don't know. But, me and Lucinda seem to have more in common than I do with the kin I came from. I also saw some other names in your posts which go with my collateral lines, but I don't know how they fit in.
I'm still filtering thru them. Thanks for reading my ramblings...my "other" missing woman has collateral SAPP lines, in Ark, which caught my eye and I kept going back to your posts..also Jackson keeps coming up, too. I also saw someone had posted that Wm J.Carter and Susan M.Barton had married in Indian Territory..and I haven't found anything else to show when/why etc..they'd gone there, if they did.

I just wondered if you might be able to help me out ...
I have been searching for more information on my Herron family and no matter what I just can't seem to get anywhere.
The information I have on my Herron's is :
My Great Grandfather - Will Herron , headstone states bday as 8 June 1886. Of all the census records I have found, they state he was born in Mississippi. He died in 1969 in Lamar County Alabama, he married Ethel Guyton. My mother says she always heard that Will was half indian.
Will's father was Jonathan Herron , dates on his headstone are: B. 11 Oct. 1841 D. 13 Sept. 1906 in Lamar Co. Alabama, of the census records I have on him, states he was born in Alabama and his father was born in Ohio. I am almost positive that Jonathan married Margaret Hood, she was born in St. Clair Co. Alabama. Jonathan and Margaret had 3 sons ... James, Sam and Will.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks so much...
Tracy Hayes Reynolds
< stlr@frontiernet.net >
Yes, Ethel's parents were Derrell W. Guyton (born Oct. 5, 1848 and died August 18, 1895) & Julia Amanda Holladay (born ?1840? and died Feb. 20, 1903) Both are buried at Guyton Cemetery in Sulligent, AL.

Where to start? I believe that I am a direct descendant of Squire Andrew Herron (SAH). My father was born in June of 1930. SAH died 1932. Of course, my father has no direct memory of SAH, yet he does remember that SAH was his grandfather. He also knew that SAH settled in the Hopkins County Texas area. My father’s name is Nezbert Prostus Herron son of Nesbitt Prostus Herron (theory). Some indicate that Nesbitt was a woman married to Claude Collier. However, there is strong evidence that Nesbitt was a man married to Claudie Collier. I have found info that claims Nesbitt went by the nicknames of ‘Nez’ and ‘Nezzie’. My dad told me his mother’s name was Claudia Collier. See Census: 1920, Texas, Hopkins Co., 8 J-PCT, Series T625 Roll: 1817 Page: 265, Surname: Herron, Given Name: Squar, Age 63, Birthplace: IN (As is often the case the census takers were not the best spellurs. ) This ‘Squar Herron’ is in the right place at the right time and the right age. And of course his wife’s name is Margaret E and they just happen to have children with the exact right names and ages. The reason I am pointing out this census record is because Nesbitt is listed as ‘Nezzie P’ (son) married to ‘Claudie’ (daughter-in-law). Seems fairly conclusive.

I have heard that our progenitor, George Colburn Herron, also had black hair and bright blue eyes. And the Herron men were known for their full heads of hair. Even my dad, 2 generations away from George, had really thick hair that he tried to control all his life. I've seen some pictures of others of my dad's generation, and they had hair out to here, thick and luxurious.

Re: Blue Eyed Herrons

I just ran across your question while researching my father's family name, Herron. We are all blue eyes, although the older I've gotten the greener my eyes have gotten like my mothers. But my father, aunts, and uncle are all blue eyed. We are from Texas. I have been able to get very far with the Herron name past my great grandfather.

My name is Stephanie (Herron) Smith and my father's name is Leland Herron. This is the link to my family tree (http://trees.ancestry.com/pt/pedigree.aspx?tid=1623254&p... ). If anthing matches yours, I would like some information, as for I am stuck.
