Daniel Hershberger was born in Conemaugh Twp., Somerset Co., PA on April 18, 1819. He was raised on the homestead and worked as a farmer. Around 1843 he married Susannah Lehman, born in 1826, daughter of Peter Lehman. They raised 6 children on the farm until his death at the age of 48 on Sep 18 1867.
Daniel is buried in the family cemetery with his parents. The inscriptions of the granite tombstones are as follows:
Daniel Hershberger Died Sept. 18, 1867 Aged 47 Yrs. 5 Mo.
Susannah wife of Daniel hershberger Died May 9th, 1903 Aged 77 Yrs. 7mo. 28 days
Daniel Hershberger did intestate. His estate was not settled until 1880 when Cyrus his oldest son applied for Letters of Administration. On Nov. 8, 1880, the amount reported earned from the auction sale was $554.52. The inventory for the sale included 4 beds, table, kettle, chairs, grindstone, 52 bushels corn, tin plate stove, horse collars, saddle, hay ladders, plow, 2 harrows, hay rakes, one spring wagon ($4), 2-horse wagon ($20), cultivator, sled, 1/2 interest om thrushing machine, farming mill, 100 bushels of ats @ 30cents each, hay, straw, 1 black mare ($50), 2-yearling colt ($35), colt ($50), 4 calves ($13), one cow ($15), one cow ($18), 3 heifers ($32), one bull($8), 2 young cattle and sausage machine
