Abraham/Abram Hess

I am confused with the Abraham/Abram Hess line in Champaign County, Ohio. Some of the documentation I've found shows Abram Hess to be son of Peter Hess (1796 PA) & Phoebe Collins. Some indicates he is the son of Abram Hess (1777 PA) & Catherine Schweitzer. Are there any records to prove parentage?

Maybe there are two Abram/Abraham Hess' born in a similar time period. Perhaps Abram born 1817 is the son of Abram (1777) since Abram was only 40 at the time. And maybe Abram born in 1820 is son of Peter (1796) who was married between 1817-1820.

Hi,

This is just so great that you wrote. Louis and Katherine were my great grandparents. Louis Hess that married Virginia Steinhaus were my grandparents. I have Louis Hess (1845) as coming to the US in 1866 when he was 21. This was told to me by my grandfather and I have found him in the ship records.

I found George Hess's grand children last year at this time and just found Annie's grandson last week. All of us thought we had no family on the Hess side.

Please email me at macriev@verizon.net so I can introduce you to the rest of your family. I will not be home this weekend but I just have to let the family know we have another cousin they will be so happy to meet you.

Virginia

Hi, My great-great grandparents were Louis Hess and Katherine Koerbel. Louis was born in Darmstadt, Germany, and came to USA when he was 2. Katherine Koerbel was born in Cohhessen, Germany and was 17 when she came to the US. Their daughter (my great grandmother) was Katherine Hess, born some time around 1850 to 1865. She married William George Hofmayer. Their daughter, Katherine Hofmayer, (my grandmother) was born in 1898 and died in 1981, As far as I know her decedants came to Mass., as she was born iin Springfield, Mass. Don't know if this is a connection. My grandmother, Catherine, married Michael Henry Heinrich in 1921 in Jersey City, NJ. My dad, Frederick Michael Heinrich was born in 1925 and died in 2008.

I don't have my files with me at the moment, but I am sure that we can help each other. I don't know what you want past Apollos HESS but I have that info on him and several of his children. I don't have much on Maria Christman and their PA roots. Tell me what exactly you would like to know and I will do my best to find it in my notes. Thank you for responding.

Re: Marion Hess

Marion b 1894 in Ohio was the only son of Andrew b 1869. Andrew was the second son of John and Catherine (Morris) Hess The 1870 census of Wayne, Chanpaign,Ohio shows him listed as Andrew H Ropp, which is the maiden name of his grandmother (Elizabeth Ropp, wife of Abraham b 1821) I could not find any data on John, wife of Catherine, except for the 1860 census of Champaign, OH. I believe they were married between 1860 and 1864 and either left home or died between early 1870 as his son Andrew was age 5months in the 1870 census, but John is not listed.
John was one of many sons of Abraham and Elizabeth Ropp. Abraham was a son of Peter b 1796, who was a son of Abraham born 1777 in Bucks Co PA, who was a son of Phillip b 1750, who was a son of Johann Jacob (Nicolas) b 1721 in Germany, a son of Nicolaus b 1696 in Germany. All of this information is on several Ancestry.com family trees and census records. The only person that is not certain is John and Catherine Morris. Hope this will get you started. e-mail me with any questions. rgrfish@hotmail.com Roger

Margaret Barbara Hess married Hans Christopher Luehrs
had 5 children:
Robert A Luehrs, Harry Carl Luehrs, Laura Luehrs, George Ernest Luehrs and Edna Irma Luehrs. Edna is my grandmother. I am looking for any living relatives on this branch. It appears that most of the Luehrs were in Illinois and some in Nebraska. Possibly Michigan.
Robert married Adolfine and had 3 children: Glen, Wilbur, Arthur and Bessie. I am going by pieces of info I have and few articles and many pictures we have but can't identify everyone.
I have only possible parents for Margaret Barbara Hess that could be George Hess and Caroline Manz. Not confirmed yet but looks possible due to documents I've found. Have one picture of her that says her last photo. Anyone out there that is related???? I have more info if needed to match up.
John B. Hess (1851-1921) is the son of a Jonas Hess (1828-1898) & Elizabeth _______ (1827-1901). His parents are buried at Millersville Mennonite Church Cemetery, Millersville, Lancaster County, PA. Jonas who was born in Pennsylvania was residing in Conestoga Township, Lancaster County, PA in 1850. He later moved to Manheim Township by 1870. While I have not been able to prove it I suspect Jonas may have come from one of the many Hess families that lived in Conestoga Township.

Do you know of any male Hess descendents from this family of so I have been hoping to get one to join the Hess DNA project?

I have more information if you’re interested.

Frank W.
Re: Miss Hess married Joel Hurt

Joel Hurt, Jr. was my Great-grandfather. His mother was Elizabeth Hess. Four children were born to Elizabeth before her death shortly after the family moved to Missouri. Joel, Sr. then married Nancy Smith and had about 10 more children. Joel J. Hurt moved to Wyoming where he homesteaded and married Henrietta Childs. He ran cattle and hunted meat for the railroads. Then he and I.C. Miller bought 3000 head of sheep and ran them into the heart of Wyoming's cattle country. He prospered with the sheep and is mentioned in several books about his work with increasing the twinning. He moved his operation from Rawlins to the Casper area in 1890 and became mayor of that town.

Hess in Germany

I have been researching our family tree for some time now, but I just can't seem to get it to go back any further. I am at a brick wall.
Wondering if you might be able to help.
I have traced the family tree back to
Friedrich Wilhelm Hess
born 17 Oct 1815 Baumgarten(Brandenburg-Prussia, Germany)
died 31st March 1878 in Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia
married Charlotte Krull in Blankinsee 1844
migrated to Australia in 1866 on the "Caesar Godeffroy" which left from Hamburg 15 October 1865 and arrived at Moreton Bay 14 Feb 1866.
We know Friedrich Wilhelm Hesse as William Friedrich Hess or Wilhelm Friedrich Hess. His fathers name is Christian Hesse, he was a farm labourer in Germany, he did not come to Australia, but that is all I know about his father. (I would like to know more, so I can trace back further)
Friedrich & Charlotte also had children who came to Australia with them, Carl, August, Johanne, Friederike, Wilhelmine, Friedrich & Ernst).
Charlotte Krull was born 21 may 1824 Herrnstien, Prussia and died 6 Nov 1905, Brisbane, Australia. Her parents are Christian and Wilhelmine Krull.
Can you help me trace this back further, if not would you know someone who could?
Thank you in advance
Joeleene
