Hi, Im looking for my father, his name is supposed to be Raymond S. Hewett the 3rd according to my birth certificate, I don't want anything from him, nothing at all. I just want to know where I come from, who the other half of my heritage comes from. My mothers name was Jenny Billion, she passed away when I was only 2 so I never learned much about her. All I know about my father is that he was around 6'4 with curly hair and he was Irish, please if anyone can help me, I would appriceate it. Thanks

Re: Larkin M. Hewett 1826?-1884? GA>AL>TX

Kevin,

I began researching the same Larkin Hewett about two months ago. I believe that the first two sons of Larkin and Margaret are the same person; Abe and G.W. - a brother of your Andrew Jackson.

According to Pope County, Ark. Marriage Records; L.M.was married a third time to Mrs. Sarah Russell in Russellville, Pope County, Ark. L.M. was 64 at time of this marriage on 24 Feb. 1890 - so he is our same Larkin.

His third wife was a widow in the 1900 Census; so he died sometime between 1890 and 1900. My guess is in Russellville, Ark.; but I haven't found any records yet.

The most recent census info I have is 1880 in Cass County, Texas. It shows South Carolina as the place of birth for both his parents.

I am interested in learning more about Margaret Hewett, Larkin's second wife. Inconclusive records state she was Cherokee.

That's what I have for now. It would be great to hear from you and collaborate in this effort.
Hewett from England

I am trying to trace the parents of my relation Charles Hewett. He was born in about 1857 in Kent and married Nelle/Ellen PRYOR in 1879. He worked for most of his life as a fruit salesman (on covent garden market I believe). He died in 1902. From census records he was born in either Bexley/Boxley/Dunsford in Kent.

His marriage certifiate to Nelle records his fathers name as simply "Hewett" with no first name. If anyone knows why this might be - any advice is welcome!

I have searched the birth records and can't find a birth record for him either.

Does anyone have any ideas where I can find more information or any clus where to go next for information? I'm stuck!

Looking forward to hearing from you! Thanks!!

Married to Richard Woolbanks - likely died in Tennessee after 1830. I have her in the census record at that time...nothing in 1840. She was living in Franklin, TN (Roll 176 Page 105). She must have been widowed at that time.

I am trying to find out her parents names...and where she was born. Anything about her family would be appreciated.
I have that she was born in North Carolina - but I am not really sure what year. My initial date was wrong. I believe she married on 14 March 1767 - and indeed there is a reference to their marriage.

Any assistance would be appreciated.
Joseph Hewett b.abt.1804 NC, m. Nancy Sellers b.abt.1813 NC

Hi, I am trying to "connect the dots" with some Hewetts. Joseph Hewett and Nancy Sellers were married 17 Sept 1834 in Henry Co., GA.

By 1850, they were in Jackson Co.,FL, shown on the census with children: John, 15; Etheldridge, 13; James M.,10; Alexander, 5; and Andrew, 3. All children born Alabama.

I'm trying to determine for sure that John Hewett is the same as John Huitt found on the 1860 Holmes Co., FL census with wife, Elizabeth, and daughters, Sarah A. and Ammarentha. I believe Ammarentha is a corruption of Emma Rentha, who would be my great grandmother.

John Hewett has been very elusive. I believe he is the John Hewett who joined Company I, 6th FL Infantry in May of 1862 and died of disease in June of 1862.

My primary interest is in John Hewett, but any scrap of information on this family will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Nancy Coan

John & Elizabeth (Huitt) Hewett, 1860 Dale County, AL Census

Hi Hewett Researchers,

On the 1860 census for Dale County, AL are:

John Huitt,age 25, b. FL
Elizabeth Huitt, age 26, b. SC
Sarah A., age 4, b. AL
Amarentha, age 2, b. FL

I believe them to be my Hewett ancestors, with Amarentha being my great-grandmother Emma Rentha Hewett who married George T. Curry in Holmes County, FL.

Other sources show another daughter named Minnie, and that Sarah A. Hewett married Samuel Pate.

Is anyone researching this line, in particular Elizabeth Hewett, wife of John Hewett, whom I believe to be the daughter of Simon Wing Hathaway of Massachusetts, Dale County, Al, and later Holmes County, FL?

I would really like to compare notes.

Thanks,
Nancy Coan

Hi

I've read your post a couple of times and I've finally gathered the nerve to ask. Do you know if your HEWETT family were slaveowners? I am also searching my HEWETT family, but they are African American. This particular line of my ancestors has been extrememly illusive. I know that from 1888 until his death in 194?, Jackson HEWETT and his wife, Hattie lived in Jemison (Chilton county. I'm attempting to find out where he originated from. The earliest that I can pick them up is in the 1910 census. You can reach me here or email me at anita_hewett@sbcglobal.net

Thanks for any assistance.
Anita Hewett-Williams

I don't recognize those names, but that doesn't mean anything. The reason I say that is because I didn't know that my grandfather, Tolbert Hewett had a brother (David 1888-1925) or a sister (Lela 1912-?) until I started this research about 5 or 6 years ago. By then, those family members that I did know had passed away. Tuscaloosa county isn't that far from Chilton county so there is a possibility that we're looking at the same family.

If I find anything, I will definitely share it with you and please, you do the same. You can reach me here or through my email: anita_hewett@sbcglobal.net

God speed on your journey,
Anita Hewett-Williams
I am so excited about your post because it could be my first step towards discovering my great-grandmother, Minnie Hewett Spikes, Dale Co. AL. I have been searching for a couple of years for information about her. My grandfather was only 3 years old around 1895-96 when his mother, Minnie, died. He knew nothing about her or her family except that her maiden name was Hewett. You mention other sources name Minnie as a child of your Elizabeth and John. Will you share those sources with me? Do you have other information about Minnie, such as when she was born, when she died, and who she married that might be helpful in determining if this is my great-grandmother? Thank you in advance for any information you are able to supply.

Hi there, my name is Laura. My Aunt Ginny had originally made these posts inquiring about Vernon W. Hewett (my Grandfather). Sadly, Ginny passed away in September of 2004. I would now like to pick up where she had left off. I'm not sure how much info she acquired. My mother, Patricia (Hewett) Boies is interested in this information about her father as well. He passed away when she was only 10. If anyone can help or provide any additional information, it would be greatly appreciated. I will repost the info my aunt had previously provided in another query. Thank you!

I am not sure if I can be of any assistance. I am searching for Hewett/Hewitt ancestors from Alabama. The Hewetts I am searching are also African American. The Hewetts I am researching are from Tuscaloosa Couny Alabama. I am looking for Lonnie Hewitt and his wife Gussie Mae Wells Hewitt (1909-1994). They had 3 children (Dorothy, Lonzo or Alonso and Mildred). I know my they moved to Chicago sometime after 1930. My husband's grandmother Dorothy Hewitt married in Chicago to a Sam (Sammie) Gibson. Sam and Dorothy moved to Cleveland, Ohio sometime after 1950. Please let me know if this is of any assistance.
