Dale,

Parents are: Samuel Newton Hibbitts and Harriet Bailey m. December 29 1853 in Allen County. They had 4 children Anna Margaret (born 1855, George Fremont Hibbitts,b Oct 16,1857, Alice Elizabeth and William Edgar (their birth dates are at home). No twins in this group although I found a mistake that got posted and shows Alice and Willlam with same birthdate. They were single births and the individual who posted the information just made a clerical error from the information I gave him.

His second marriage was to Lucinda Coates(Lucina, Lusina)b. Oct. 22, 1838 in Ohio. They married on Oct. 22, 1861 in Allen Co, Ohio (near Lima)

They had 12 children (3 sets of twins), Charles Marion, Rosella Josephine, Horentia Caroline, Florence Mable, Ida Viola (my line) and her twin Inez Leola, Leona Leoti, Arthur John and Artie A (twins), Ethel May and Gertrude Vivian and Guy Vincent (twins).

He married a third time...my notes are at home. I believe her name was Martha Barnard (she had been married before). I found them in the census and at some point she appears without Samuel (must have died) with a child Clarence Hibbits.

I have been looking for Samuels death date and place. One of his daughters married a Mann. I have letters from her to her sister Inez.

Arthur John (Uncle John) and his wife lived in WA along with Ida and Inez. I think Mrs. Mann lived in OR.

Why don't you contact me at koolgen@comcast.net and we can compare notes.

This is the first generation info. that I have on George Hibbitts. Does this match your Goerge Hibbitts info.? If so do you have info. on his parents? And would you like to exchange info.?

Descendants of George F. Hibbits

Generation No. 1

1. GEORGE F.3 HIBBITS (UNKNOWN2, JOHN1)1 was born Oct 1856 in Ohio2,3, and died 02 Jun 1929 in Lucas County, Ohio4. He married MARY JANE MOORMAN 27 Oct 1877 in Ohio5, daughter of ABSOLOM MOORMAN and LEAH SWISHER. She was born 03 Mar 1861 in Lima, Ohio, and died 01 May 1921 in Toledo, Lucas County, Ohio {St. Vincents Hospital, at 11:25 PM}.

Notes for GEORGE F. HIBBITS:
George F. Hibbits - Listed as Grandson of John Hibbits in the 1870 census of John Hibbits.
I have not been able to find out who George's parents are. I have them listed as "Unknown". His father would have to be one of John Hibbits son's. My guess would be Samual N. Hibbits & Harriet {Bailey} Hibbits as they were married Dec. 29, 1853 & George was born Oct. 1856. Samuel N. Hibbits second marriage was on Oct. 23, 1861 to Lucina {Coates} Hibbits. If Samuel's first wife died in child birth it is possible that Samuel could not take care of George or did not want him around to remind him of Harriet's death he could have given him to his parents John & Margaret Hibbits to raise. But, I have not found anything to support this.

More About GEORGE F. HIBBITS:
Residence: 1870, Shawnee, Allen County, Ohio {Listed as Grandson of John Hibbits}6

More About MARY JANE MOORMAN:
Burial: May 1921, Toledo, Lucas County, Ohio {Forest Cemetery in}
Residence: 01 May 1921, 253 Spring Grove Ave., Toledo, Lucas County, Ohio (on death cert.)

More About GEORGE HIBBITS and MARY MOORMAN:
Marriage: 27 Oct 1877, Ohio7

Children of GEORGE HIBBITS and MARY MOORMAN are:
i.	MCCLELLAN4 HIBBITS7, b. Feb 1879, Ohio7.

More About MCCLELLAN HIBBITS:
Residence: 1900, Ottawa, Putman County, Ohio {Living in}7

ii.	HENRY HIBBITS7, b.
Re: Melvina Hibbitts

According to Goodspeed's History of Southeast Missouri, page 642 and 643: "Lewis B. Hibbitts, son of Ebenezer H. and Margaret M. (Green) Hibbitts, was born in Liberty Township, St. Francois Co., Mo., in April, 1848. His father, Ebenezer H., was a native of Iredell County, N.C. and was probably of Irish extraction. He was reared in Iredell County, following agricultural pursuits, but being a man above the average in education he taught school a portion of his time after coming to Missouri. Previous to this he had married Miss Green, in Iredell County, N.C., and they had moved to Tennessee, locating in Hardin County, where they remained three years. They then came to Missouri, settled in Madison County, and here, as before stated, Mr. Hibbitts followed the profession of teaching through not altogether in this county, as he soon moved to Liberty Township, St. Francois County, and entered land there. He resided most of his time in St. Francois County, until his death, which occurred May 29, 1865. His wife survived him until 1877. She was a native of Iredell County, N.C. and was of Welsh descent. She was a member of the Baptist church. Mr. Hibbitts was a Democrat, politically and was a sheriff and collector of St. Francois County for a term and a half......"

Goodspeed's biographical appendix apparently does not support a Native American connection but that does not necessarily indicate the absence of such a connection.

Ebenezer H. was the son of Robert Hibbitts and Gertrude Rothwell Hibbitts of Iredell County, N.C. Robert and Gertrude have decendents in Throckmorton, Texas who decended through Robert Hibbitts, son of Robert and Gertrude and brother to Ebenezer.

I have researched the Hibbitts family of Baltimore in the late 1800's. Edward Joseph Hibbitts' grandparents came from Portumna in County Galway. They left Ireland after the Famine and came to Baltimore by way of New York. One of their children is George Hibbitts. He is the father of Edward. Instead of posting a reply, you may contact me by email.

Melvina Hibbitts

Melvina Hibbitts was my GGgrandmother, married to John W. Green in St. Francois Co., Mo. mid 1800's. Their daughter was Hattie May Green who married Cyrus Sylvester Sparks. (son of John Harvey Sparks & Susan Baker, also in St. Fran. Co., Mo.) Family oral history implies that she was Cherokee. Her father was Ebenezer Hibbitts. Am trying to validate the Native Indian heritage.
