Ann - I am interested in tracing my Hick family ancestry. My Father was John Stanley Hich born in Redruth 1921 and died in Sept 1983. His wife (my Mother) was Rosemary Sylvia Elizabeth Hick (Nee Trestrail). Mother was born in Helston.

well we are the Arline family members fro the pennsylvania area, there is a lot of us. we have been looking for our family for a long time ... thank GOD we found yo!! well!! we do know that our family name began in Georgia and that our great grand father Elbert Arline married Mattie (king)Arline and my grand father was one of the 10 children born from that union and his name was Thurman N Arline he was born on August 11, 1908. his brothers and sisters names were:jardon;Newman;Lester;Vernon;lHerbert;Creside;lulu mae;Bertha;lillian and leila, all with the last name ARLINE. some of the brothers and sisters stayed in Georgia and went to Florida and a few moved to Pennsylvania. My name is Cheryl Hicks, daughter of Joseph and Shirley Hicks, who is the son of Clyde and Ruth Hicks. I have nine other brthers and sisters. There names are Joseph, Clyde, Wilford, Marcella, Brian, Faith, Quinton, Hope, and my twin brother Daryl. My grandfather Clyde had two other children, Latresa and Raymond. I am trying to find a location in England from which my great-gr grandfather came.

His name is James Hicks. I suspect he might be from Cornwall because he was a miner and married Elizabeth Florence Oram who was from Breage, Cornwall. Elizabeth was born 6 Nov, 1837. There is a legend that James and Elizabeth "ran off together" and may never have actually married. Elizabeth married three additional times.

They had one child, Henry Francis Hicks, who was born October, 1858. James and Henry, but not Elizabeth, show in Scranton, PA in the 1860 federal census.

James died in Feb 1875 in Adams, Berkshire, Mass.

I'm hoping that someone can help me tie him back to England. An aunt of mine had a hint that he may have been from Sussex but I can find nothing in her notes about it.

Hi Is anyone else researching the Hicks familyfrom Oxfordshire? I can go back to Mary 1770 born in Hailey which still needs to be verified. She had a son Richard c1809 & he married an Elizabeth Purser c1811. They had ten children Richard Joseph James John Robert William Richard Jacob Dorothy and Thomas. I am from Joseph's c1834 line. can anyone help fill in the missing details, please?

Hogan/Emerson/Carrie Hicks?

Hello,

My grandfather left us a tape of his childhood. He mentions his grandfather in Hugo, MN and visiting them on their farm every summer. Helping his grandfather every Saturday bring fresh eggs, butter and vegies to the people in town - Winona, Minnesota. He said they lived "High on the Hog those city people" :^)

He said that his grandfather (I believe he is speaking of James Hogan or either George Emerson) married a woman named Katherine and she died young. He said that a long while after his Katherine died he married a woman named Carrie Hicks. She was so much already a part of the family because she was hired to care for the children and they all loved her so very much they could not see living without her.

My grandfather (Roy Emerson) talked about how he never heard of Carrie ever again and it seems like such a mystery to me. He says in his cassette tape....we never knew what happened to Carrie. Hmmmm?

Well, my hope is that someone may know "the rest of the story?" Or even parts of the story?

Given the arrival year in Australia I guess that you are descended from Daniel Hick who married Selina White. My Mother is a descendant of this line. I have recently updated my information on this site so you can find what i have on them.
The Australian part of family is very well researched and a book was published relating the early times in the Ballarat area and on into Williamstown. I am more interested in pushing back the UK side of the family

It is a small world. Joan is my step-mother and Dixon is my father. I am interested in tracing the Parker, Hick, Southgate, Fitness et al lines in the UK since I feel that is what I am best placed to do. I look forward to exchanging details. When I was last in Aus I gave my brothers a printout of my researches, Mother and Father have a copy too so if you see them they I am sure they would show it to you. I will contact you off-board.

I am currently looking after 3 rather lovely postcards of Miss Edna May, a famous 19th C singer/actress. All 3 were addressed to Miss Mary Hick, who was living in Whitby and Scarborough - dates ranging from 1904-1912.

Just seen your message re the name Hick and that you have a large database on them.
My GG Grandfather was listed in the 1841 for Polkerris, Tywardreath, Cornwall census he was Henry Hick born Tywardreath and was with his wife Philippa born in Luxillion together with their children.
I wonder if you have any information on him before this.

The earliest confirmed Hick ancestor is a Joseph Hick who was born c1748 and Christened at Lanlivery Rural, in 1749.
Have a Henry Hick who married Mary(nee Hearn) in 1748 at Lanhydrock and believe these could have been Joseph's parents: but not yet confirmed.
The Lanhydrock marriage could mean a connection.
Henry & Mary married by Licence. Believe Mary born 1728.

Yes you are correct about Daniel & Selina (nee White) Joan Dalgleish ( nee Parker ) is my first cousin. Saw Joan and Dixon at Dixon's recent 70th Birthday Party. Have the info. on the Family here in Australia. Organised the re-union in December, 2004.
Have been working with a Hick relative in New Zealand on the Hick family and their roots in Cornwall. But there are gaps and a few guesses along the way in the research.

I have lots of information on my Hick ancestors, but also some gaps. My Hick family hail from Lanlivery, Luxullyan, then Kenwyn, Kea, Bodmin etc. G.G.G. arrived in Australia 1854. He is descended from Joseph & Elizabeth Hick who married in Bodmin 1775.

I have some details on the Hick family that went to Australia in the 1850s from Cornwall all from research carried out a few years back. I am interested in extending the tree back into the UK.
The earliest Hick family is Joseph Hick (1748-1819) who married Elizabeth Williams (1753-1837) in 1775. I do not know where any of these events took place. I am guessing Devon or Cornwall. Is anyone able to point me in the right direction as to where to find more on this family?
