Hickey & Co Store Earl St. Dublin 1890-1930+

As far as I know my family contains the only surviving American descendants of Thomas A. Hickey, born in Wexford - probably Ardmore in 1845- emigrated to the U.S. in 1865 and later became partner and owner of the Green & Hickey leather Company in Shrewsbury, Mass. His family in ireland had in his youth moved to Dublin and opened a shop on North Earl Street [just off Sackville, now O'Connell St.] in Dublin as outfitters and drapers. This became eventually a large concern "Hickey & Co." selling ladies fashions as well as furniture, under the ownership of Thomas' brother William Hickey. Pathe newsreels show extensive damage to it in 1922 in the Irish Civil War. Ads in Dublin newspapers indicate the store rebuilt and continued to operate well into the 30's. Are there any Irish members of Ancestry that know of the Hickey store in Dublin or of its owners there?

Patrick Hickey of CT

Still looking for descendents of Patrick Hickey b. 1826 in Ireland, d. 1900, Milford CT. He and wife Johanna had two boys John and William. John lived in Derby CT, was a blacksmith and with wife Elizabeth, had ten children, one of which was my grandfather. I don't know anything of William or my grandfather's brothers or sisters. Sure would like to make a connection with the Irish side of my family.

Audrey

HICKEY- DELANEY-HOLLINGUM-CORRIGAN

HICKEY- DELANEY-HOLLINGUM-CORRIGAN
i can be contacted at luvinmom4life@aol.com

Please read through this. i do not know where to turn for help with this search. I can not find access to Parsonstown ( Birr) records... Below is the best knowledge i have on my great grandmother and her family. Plz if at all possible guide me to where i can ask for records and let me know cost of them if any.

in 1935 a 5 yr research was paid for. ( i have the paper) My great grandmother was found
Her birth was: Mary.... born march 9, 1882 in Parsonstown workhouse. Her mother was Bridget Delaney. The information on this paper is as follows:

On July 24, 1935 someone paid for a 5 year search- Superintendent Registrar was paid 1s. 0d. and for certified copy and stamp 2s. and 7d.
The found was from register Book of births Deposited in the Superintendent Registrar's Office. see below:
d & p of birth ninth day of March 1882- Name- Mary- female Under section of Father is A line through it. Mother name and surname is Bridget Delaney (the word "formerly" is crossed out). Rank/Profession of Father is a line through it. (no Father listed).
Signature, Qualification, and Residence of Informant has: Thos. Pooly (Pooley?) Occupies Work House Under "When Registered, is Fifteen of april 1882. Signature of Registrar is "Thomas Woods"
Mary is"Entry No. 149 in the Register Book Of Births in my Office" Office Fullaues??? Dated 24th July 1935 Superintendent Registrar is signed and "For the District of Birr"
Top left corner is # 74 and under that is # 26 also says Births registered in the District of Parsonstown, In the Union of Parsonstown, in the County of Kings.

My Great grandmother was the oldest- Mary Elizabeth Hickey (married- Thomas Corrigan in NYC.) She was born (according to the research paper that was done in 1935) 9 March 1882 in Parsonstown, Birr, Offaly in The Parsonstown workhouse. I believe it to be about 1897-1898 that Mary E. Came to live here. I do know that she lived in New York City somewhere ant one point. Manhattan. This is where my grandmother Mary Margaret Corrigan was born. I do not know how she then came to J.C., NJ.

I Have been trying for decades now to find information on Bridget and her family.

My mom and her brother visited England about 1978 and had been told back by the youngest daughter Agnes (or her Daughter Jean) that Bridget married Michael Hickey ( whom may have been adopted). There were 13 children born. (3 sets of twins included) They were ( to my knowledge) from Parsonstown- (Tullamore) -Birr- Offaly.
About 7 years ago, i was told that at the timeframe of 1850-1910? that were not many hickey families in that area.
I have been told that about 1863 Bridget's aunt brought her to the workhouse ( age at 13 then).. We do not know where she is from.
I do know that Mary Elizabeth Hickey emmigrated to the USA as a servant about the year 1899. She was the oldest of the children.

Bridget (Maiden-Delaney) and Michael? Hickey 's children are:
Mary Elizabeth b march 9, 1882
Mariah
Frank (twin to Patrick)
Tom (Twin to Joe)
Christine (Twin to Josephine)
Patrick (Twin to Frank)
Joe (Twin to Tom)
Josephine (Twin to Christine)
Margaret
Michael
Bridget
one other we do not know the name of
Agnes b 1898

I hope to find someone that my have information or even may be a link to this puzzle. Sorry it's so long. Info may help. Please let me know if it does. Thanks.

It was my g.g.grandparents that were in Ireland. While there, My g.g. grandmother Bridget Hickey (maiden- Delaney) bore 13 children; somewhere between the years of about 1882--- 1898---I do not have ANY information of where any of them moved to or settled except some of Agnes Hickey's family information. She married Hollingum and had children in England.

I have been told that after Michael Hickey (Bridget's Husband passed away (about 1898 give or take a year), that the Government decided to help out Bridget being a widow with 13 children. They took the boys (that were old enough i guess) and placed them into the military. Shortly after his death, Bridget traveled to England.. and lived there with her children (by then i do not know how many traveled with her, nor do i know Where in England she went in England.) Later in life her daughter Agnes brought her to "Somerset House" to live out her years. (this may have been in Canada where Agnes' daughter settled with her family).

My mother told me that possibly one or two of Mary Hickey's Siblings, Came to New Jersey and lived in West New York. Mary at the time lived in Bayonne, with her 2nd husband Joseph Goodheart. Mary is Buried in the Name Mary E. Goodheart. Joseph raised my grandmother after Thomas' death in 1902. All three are listed in the 1930 census. My mom remembers her mom taking her to visit the family in West New York in the Late1940's. I think Agnes and one of the other sisters traveled here then to see the family.

I do not have any other information on Bridget's family except what all her other 12 children's names were. I only have a little access to her youngest child's info ( that's not much either.)
I do not have any information about Bridget's husband other than his name was Michael Hickey and he may have been adopted.
I am stuck to this point.
I hope to find anyone that may have information, or possibly even be a link to this puzzle. I do not know what became of all the other children.

PLEASE, Is there anyone that may have information to further this search?
Thank you very much. Sorry this took so long to read.
Mary E. Barabos luvinmom4life@aol.com

PS: The following person responded to my message and i can no longer find him--- i just recently found his response...... unfortunately......

Message no.179 (Mary Hickey)
Author: Patrick Hickie Date: 7 May 2000 9:21 PM GMT
In Reply to: Hickey- Ireland - New York/New Jersey by: Mary
Post Reply | Mark Unread Report Abuse Print Message
I was very interested by subject message. I was born in Birr in 1924 at which time there was only one family of Hickeys in the town. My name is more correctly spelled "Hickey" but a registration error spelled it Hickie (also a valid spelling). I came to Canada in 1948.I have some information ,which may be of interest. Please contact me at above e-mail address

I tried but 6 years too late.... if anyone knows who this was please let me know. ty.
Re: Hickey family of Baltimore, MD

Callistus Leo Hickey, may be the son of Charles A. Hickey, son of James Hickey & Elizabeth M E A Hayes. Though the record I have has a Charles Hickey marrying a Josephine Frenchline, though there could be multiple Charles Hickeys. It's interesting the name "Callistus" appears in both families.

JAMES HICKEY was born Abt. 1812 in Ireland, and died 04 Jul 1853 in Baltimore, MD. He married ELIZABETH M. E. A. HAYES 01 Jun 1841 in Baltimore, MD. She was born Abt. 1813 in Maryland, and died 08 Aug 1882 in Baltimore, MD.
Children of JAMES HICKEY and ELIZABETH HAYES are:
i.	EDWARD BARRINGTON J. HICKEY, b. May 1846, Maryland; d. 1907, Maryland;
m. MARY VIRGINIA POSEY OR SUTER, 24 May 1866, Baltimore, MD; b. Jan 1845, Maryland; d. Aft. 1910.
ii.	CALLISTUS FRANCIS HICKEY, b. Abt. 1847, Maryland; d. 1914, Maryland;
m. MARY ELLEN MCGUINNESS, 13 Jan 1876, Baltimore, MD.
iii.	CHARLES A. HICKEY, b. Feb 1850, Baltimore, MD; d. Aft. 1900;
m. (1) MARY A. BRANDAU, 19 Jun 1874, Baltimore, MD; b. Abt. 1849; d. 21 Sep 1875, Baltimore, MD;
m. (2) JOSEPHINE FRENCHLINE or ? , 25 Jun 1885, Baltimore, MD; b. Dec 1849, Maryland.

I am researching the family of John Hayes and Mary Simmons (or Simmon) of Baltimore. Elizabeth M E A Hickey is a witness for John Hayes War of 1812 pension and John Hayes was a witness for James Hickey's naturalization. They were both house painters in Baltimore, MD.

I have some more info on various descendants.

Hal Eaton  (haleaton@aol.com)

I would like to ask any Hickey relative (Cornielous Hickey descendents)if they would submit a DNA blood test to "ALL THINGS CHEROKEE".
I did this two years ago and I have had no feedback.

I would like to see a data base of Cornielous Hickey descendents (Nancy's father)so we can establish a data base on the descendents of Judah (Ogg??)and Cornielous Hickey.

I hope then than we can link together our lineages.

WALLY

If I know about the cemetery get together next year, I'll certainly be there if I can. The family cemetery in Tennessee is a different line of mine, the Wilsfords.

I'm sorry I wasn't able to attend the cemetery cleaning. I would have loved to be there, but I'm dealing with some health issues that prevented me from going. We did the same thing a few years ago to the Wilsford family cemetery in Pulaski, TN. It was a wonderful experience.

Re: Maurice Hickey 1840-1902 Allegheny Co PA

Thanks for passing that on sonnyhand, but it turns out that is a different Maurice Hickey. It turns out my Hickey enlisted in Troop I, 1st U.S. Dragoons on May 7, 1858 at Buffalo, New York for five years. On August 31, 1861, the Dragoons were renamed the 1st U.S. Cavalry, Troop I.

Of note is the pension application for Morris/Maurice. When he applied, he not only listed his service in the 1st US Cavalry, but also as a lieutenant in company B, 5th Regiment, Quartermasters Volunteers from Aug 22, 1964 to Sept 10, 1864. The federal government did not recognize this group as a known military organization.
