I forgot to mention that I already have found all that information regarding the Johnson and Calkins families online (since I posted the query in 2003). Thanks anyway for your help. Please feel free to contact me at: shellydumas@comcast.net

Also, my mom is interested in more family photos of Ruth and all her siblings if your have access to any, and if you have some of you and your family, Terry's kids, etc., that would be great, too. I love to scrapbook. I am in touch with Elaine's daughter, Mary Kaye (who lives with Elaine), near Minneapolis. And I am in constant contact with George's daughter, Cindy, who lives a few blocks from him in Austin, TX. Thanks!

Uh, I'm your second cousin Shelly Dumas (nee Hieber) in Seattle. I met you in 1980 when my mom and I drove out to visit. My mom is Betty Hieber (nee Calkins), your grandmother's youngest sister. We stayed with Ruth in Bismarck and their brother George and Lonnie (Bud's second wife) were there, too. I was 16 and you were a couple years younger than me, I think? We spent some time at your house and watched the 4th of July fireworks. Right now my mom lives with us in Mountlake Terrace, WA and I have a husband and 2 sons (10 and 13 yrs. old). Mom had a stroke in May and is doing really well, but had cataract surgery in December and one eye needs a corneal transplant. Other than that, we're doing just swell. How's it going with you?

Shelly - this is Greg Anderson, grandson of Ruth Calkins. I have seen your messages regarding Julia Calkins on the internet and I think I may have found her. It took a while - but I think this is her. It looks like Claus may have been her brother - her parents were Helmar and Laura. Her siblings were Lena, Claus, Petria, Henry and Helga. This would make sense along with what my dad told me - that she was born around Ellendale, ND - which is in Dickey county - this Julia was born in LaMoure Country - which is directly to the north of Dickey county. LaMoure county has a very small population - so that the closest geographic reference may have been Ellendale. I don't know which towns in ND were existing at this time (I was surprised that Garrison was not founded until 1907 - which would make Fred and Julia some of the earliest residents). Census records for Garrison in 1920 and 1930 both confirm that Julia was born in ND. Let me know what you think of this information.

http://www.familysearch.org/eng/search/AF/family_group_recor...

LaMoure Census information 1900:
http://www.usgwarchives.org/nd/lamoure/census/1900/84-10a.gi...

LaMoure Census information 1910:
http://www.usgwarchives.org/nd/lamoure/census/1910/122-13b.g...

I couldn't find them there in 1920

North Dakota vital records Public Death Index lists a Helmar A Johnson with a date of death of 12/29/1931 with a place of death in LaMoure County who was 70 years old born on 12/12/1861 who resided in LaMoure county. https://secure.apps.state.nd.us/doh/certificates/deathCertSe...

North Dakota vital records lists a Laura Johnson with a date of death of 12/03/1942 with a place of death in LaMoure County who was 84 years old born on 02/01/1858 who resided in LaMoure county. https://secure.apps.state.nd.us/doh/certificates/deathCertSe...

Siblings Petria and Claus appear to have been born in Norway which may help finding information in Norway.

Sister Helga was born 22 Sep 1889 in LaMoure County and died 28 Oct 1934 in Stutsman County - both place of death and residence. She married Ernest Dow SWIFT. This is confirmed by the ND Vital Records

I also searched for Henry and Claus' information on vital records - but was unable to locate it reliably - there were plenty of Henry's but no Claus'.

Here is a map of LaMoure County - the township is Gladstone.

The only piece that I can't figure out is how they met. Do you have any information since Butlerville, Iowa; LaMoure County, and Garrison, McLean County, ND are not necessarily close together considering that they aren't on major transporation routes then or now...
Hieber Family, Wurtemburg, Germany->Dayton, Ohio

I think there has been/is only one Hieber family in the Miami Valley/Dayton area since approimately 1850. Anthony (alternately listed as Anton or Andrew) and Magdalena (Lena) Hieber were the original immigrants to the area. I have seen funeral cards that say (in German) Anton Hieber b. 1826 Ebnat d. 1890 Dayton and Magdelena Hieber b. Dec 31 1829 Ebnat Oberamt Heresheim Wurttemburg d. 1909. Magdelena clims in 1900 to have immigrated in 1852, I have no way of knowing if they came together or seperately. They had 11 children, although it seems only 2 may have provided them with grandchildren; the son August (my ancestor, 1857-1922) and daughter Mary L (b. abt 1865) who married a Joseph Lehman. I have no idea if Mary and Joseph produced any children. August married Elizabeth Lebert (1863-1941). They had 9 children, 3 of whom may have had children; Raymond (my ancestor 1896-1992), Clarence (1900-1963), and Vincent(1902-1970). Any other relatives out there looking?

Alfred...Thank-you so much for your reply. I am trying to find out anything I can about the Aurachers, and their reasons for leaving Europe for America. I had read a bit about the group that founded Zoar in Ohio, but I don't yet know if Christian Auracher came on the same ship with that group [the Frau Elizabetha],and if he did why he stayed in Pennsylvania, where he is buried. Were the members of this group listed anywhere by the authorities so that I can definitely tie my ancestor to this group? I would imagine records exist of those who were arrested at the Fortress, and I'm wondering how/if I could get a copy of this. I don't know when I might get to Germany myself to aquire them.

I read the first article, but it didn't reference them directly. I have not read the second one. I would like to find the records of any Auracher family members involved in the separatist activities. I know my Gr-gr-grandfather left there in 1817 with wife Friederika Schell who had divorced someone named Moessner just weeks before giving birth to Auracher's first son,John Christian.

I just came across the following information in a probate record from 1879:

Christine Gottliebe Warner, nee Heaver was the daughter of George and Barbara Heaver of Mahoning Co, OH.

Christine Gottliebe Warner was born about 1818 and had emigrated from Wuerttemberg. She and her husband were part of the Bethel Religious Commune in Missouri and then followed Dr. Kiel to Oregon and were part of the Aurora Colony, an extension of the Bethel Commune. Christine Gottliebe Warner died in 1868, a year after arriving at the Aurora Colony. Christine Gottliebe named her first daughter Catharina and her first son Johann (John). The Warner surname was originally Werner.

Could the Johann Georg Hieber and Katahrina Barbara Schwab be the George and Barbara Heaver listed as Christine Gottliebe's parents?

Sandra,

please notice that 'Christiane Gottliebin' generally is a christian name and no surname. My Christiane Gottliebin from Horrheim bears the surname Auracher.
If you actually found a woman named Christiane Gottliebin it is in fact the female from of the surname 'Gottlieb'. In America it was frequently changed to 'Gottleib'. Therefore, you should find someone who is researching the Gottlieb surname.
Good luck!

Hieber Family

I am researching the Hieber Family also. They came from Bopfingen, Kingdom of Wuerttemberg.
The main family consisted ofJohn Carl, Theodore L (born 2/06/1840)., Sophia( born 09/06/1844), Christina (born 01/02/1830) and Caroline (born 06/13/1837)HIEBER

The Obituary of Theodore L HIEBER,we have a better understanding of how the family came to America. It states the young Theodore being only 12 came over to America in 1852 with his brother in law (though at that time the marriage had not taken place I believe) Carl SUTORIUS. His Mother, brother - John C. Hieber and sisters follow later. (Later in this case was only months because we know from other articles that he came over in June of 1852. It never mentions a father. We do not know if the father died or remained in Germany. The family was of the Lutheran Faith.

The children and mother settled in Johnstown, NY. John Carl, Theodore L and Christina moved to Utica, NY. It is possible that Caroline moved between Johnstown and Esperance, NY

Do you have information in your tree about our family? There are a limited amount to family left from the John C. Hieber family. I know of none from the other bothers and sisters but I still working on it.
