Hi Linda,
Are you sure that you found the obituary for James Highfield at the FRANKLIN CO. Historical Society? Why would the obituary be in Franklin Co.? Could it possibly be Franklin Historical Society in Franklin, Venango Co., PA?

I have to look for the burial place for James and see if John & Sarah Highfield are buried there also. I have been looking in all the cememteries and haven't hit them yet.

I found John Highfield in 1910 & 1920 living in Forest Co., Hickory Twp., PA with his family.

My email: care_2 @verizon.net
[Note: care underscore 2@verizon.net ]

Cheryl Myers nee LaNier

Hello,
First of all, I have been trying to find the burial place of John Highfield with no luck but Franklin is a town in Venango Co., PA. In 1870 he was in Sandy Creek Twp., Venango Co., Post Office was Franklin. James Highfield would have been about 30 yrs. old in 1878 and since he sent the Western Union Telegram to David & Catherine [Highfield]Hancock that lived in Armstrong Co., Allegheny Twp., PA. He, meaning James must have still been living with his parents or John & Sarah were living with James Highfield. I found James in 1880, living in Sandy Creek Twp., Franklin, Venango Co., PA with his wife Margaret, but none of the other children.

I am pretty sure they are buried in Venenago Co., PA. just don't know where yet.

Where did you find the Western Union Telegram dated May 27, 1878?

I am trying to find the parents of John Highfield/Hifield, who was born c.1765. He was in NYC by 1785, working as a cartman. Married Margaret Requa and had at least two children, Henrietta (b 1801) and James. John died about 1810, Margaret never remarried and died in 1852.

Highfield DNA

I am related to the Highfills (Highfields)of North Carolina. I was wondering if any of you have had a DNA test for the Highfield line. My male Highfill cousin has taken the test and we would like to be able to compare it to other Highfields. If any of you are interested, now would be a good time while Ancestry has such a good deal price. I think that there will be an explosion of interest in the next couple of years since it is catching on so fast.
I have uploaded the result to Ysearch.org which has the results from many sources, including from other countries. I think it will help us in the future to trace our ancestry back to Europe. Appreciate any interest there might be out there.

Pat Edwards

Re: Reed Highfield and Family

In my search for family info I found your Samuel (father of Reed)in the 1880 census for Parks Twp., Armstrong Co. He is living with the Daniel Sanderson family; he is listed as Samuel Nighfield (depending who is reading the info - sure looks like Highfield to me) widower, born in Allegheny Co., Pa., his father and mother are listed as being born in Westmoreland Co.Pa. Samuel is a brother of my John. John and his family moved to Venango Co. in the mid 1850's but old family letters indicate that Samuel was still here in Armstrong Co. I lost Samuel after the 1870 census and had assumed that he died before the census of 1880 until I recently found him living several doors away from my John Baker. Would love to hear what you have learned about the Highfield family. Linda

I am not actually related to the Highfield family. My sister was married to Thomas John Chapman (Jack) who was the son of Mary Eveline Highfield (b.1883 in Liverpool) I just did a bit of the family history for Jack. If your grandmother was Constance (b.1893 in Tranmere Cheshire) then she was the younger sister of Mary Eveline and there there were two brothers between them. James G. (b.1888 in Tranmere) and William R. B. (b. 1891 in Tranmere) I have traced back a further three generations if you think this is the right person. Jill (England but a Kiwi)

I am trying to find information about the Kossow family who lived in Marshall County area in Kansas around the 1870 through at least 1930's. I know they are connected to my great great grandmother, Christina Kossow Brandt from Freeport, Illinois. Through pictures and old newspaper clippings, I believe I may have figured out the lineage, but need verification.

I think Christine's brother was William (Wilhelm) Kossow, married to Sophia Sievert. Their children were Ernest (wife, Rose), Anna (not married), Meatha (husband, Alfred Jensen), William (wife, Lula Belle Highfield) , Henry (wife, Emma Zimmerling).
I have a few things on the Highfield's, but not much. Anything you are willing to share, I would be most grateful for. I know they were both from Lewis County, Kentucky and have a few obits if you are interested in them as well.

Re: Susanne Highfield

My Susanne or Susanna had passed away by 1871. Her husband Louis Siefer was remarried and had another child by that year. Their daughter, Mary Catherine Siefer Texter, was my greatgrandmother. Emma Stitt was Susanna's oldest daughter. George Stitt was Emma's father. I think that Jane might have been Louis's second or third wife. He was married to a Jane in the 1880 census, but no Sarah Highfield is listed in the household. I once found a cemetary with some Siefer headstones on Bullie Hill in Franklin, PA. I know from a news article that one of my distant cousins has that Louis lived up there and, from the census, that the Highfields were in close proximity. In the late 1800's, some of both families moved to Ohio, but I didn't find Sarah there in 1880 either. Meade Graham is descended from the Highfields.
seems that your husband and I are cousins Robena married Russell Parker? they had 3 kids Thelma Harry and Frank. My dad is a child by Benjamin Franklin, who is a child of Abner Alexander Highfield. He didn't have a whole lot to do with the family. I have been to Tollsboro to check out cemetary and Maysville, I have pic of graves, would have to dig them out to see. Havn't taken time to do this in a minute, years actually. There is still a son (to my knowledge) in Ky that is alive of Ben's.

Your Susanna and my Catherine are sisters. I have a letter from their brother Westley dated March the 12 (no year) and he says that Susanna Seifers is not well that she is doctoring for the lung fever - I now can put an approximate year to it knowing that Susanna had passed away by 1871. Using the census I find Susanna in 1840 and 1850 in Allegheny Twp., Armstrong Co. with her parents, John and Sarah Highfield; in 1860 with Michael and Catherine Sifers, Sandycreek Twp., Venango Co.; in 1870 with Louis, six children, and Michael aged 73, in Sandycreek Twp., Venango Co. living four houses away from John and Sarah Highfield. I am planning on going to Venango Co. in search of gravesites and will let you know if I find Susanna's.

Catherine Highfield Hancock, my gg grandmother, is Susanne's sister. I would love to get in touch with her brother James' family; have old letters from James, John, Westley, and Henry and also from Emma (Stitt) Johnson and her daughter Ella. I need help identifying old family photo's. Where is John and Sarah buried? I have a Western Union telegram from Franklin, Pa. dated May 27, 1878 stating that "father died last night". A letter from James on June 1st. says that mother is living with Jane Seifers; is Jane Susanne's middle name? I do not find Sarah Highfield with any Seifer family in the 1880 census but believe that she did not die until 1893 and that she was in the Franklin area. I sure would appreciate any help you can give me. Thank you. Linda

Hi Jill, I am the grandaughter of Constance Highfield. I've just started tracing my family tree. Constance moved to New Zealand with both her parents in 1914 where she met my grandfather Thomas Greenwood. There they had two sons Robert and Thomas. My grandfather was a bricklayer and due to the big earthquake in Auckland the family pulled upstakes and moved to Australia along with my grandmother's parents. Hence my father Thomas Leslie Greenwood. If you have any more information I would be greatful and if I couldhelp you please let me know. Look forward in hearing from you
regards
Rhonda (australia)

I had almost forgotten about this post. You are correct, Robena did marry Russell Parker, and they had four children--Harry, Frank, Dorothy, and Thelma. Well, to be quite honest, my husband's family knew very little of Robena's family. I know more than they do at this point. It seems Robena was rather cantankerous, lol, and she wasn't always pleasant to be around. I had started the research and discovered all of the brothers and sisters that Robena had and was amazed that my husband's family knew nothing of them!! I was hoping to see pictures of her brothers and sisters. I do have a few pictures of Robena and Russell and I have pictures of most of the Highfield stones that are buried in the Maysville Cemetery. I was just hoping that someone would answer and perhaps have pictures of Robena's father, mother, or brothers and sisters. But I am willing to share anything that I have at all, just ask, it's yours. Thanks for answering my post, I appreciate your time.

Sincerely, Mary Lester Waldren
marym@maysvilleky.net
