Re: Hignight/Ashley connection

I found a Georgia Hignight in the home of Arch and Mattie Hignight during the 1900 census.

It appears that Georgia was born in Tennessee NOT Texas and in the year 1878 NOT 1872. Unfortunately, most death certificate information is provided second hand and cannot be verified.

1900 US Census, Texas, McLennan, Justice Precinct 3, Dist 84
Image 55 of 58

Hignight, Arch Head Sept 1855 44 MS Don't Know Don't Know
Mattie Wife Mar 1857 43 TN Don't Know TN
GEORGIA Daughter Feb 1878 TN
Ira Son Jan 1886 TN
Ethel Daughter Aug 1887 TN
Gertie Daughter Dec 1889 TN
Jester Son Nov 1897 TN

I would suspect that Georgia and Calvin married in McLennan Co., TX since that is where Georgia was living before and after she married. I was unable to find any reference to their marriage online.

I hope you find this helpful. I wish you the very best of luck with your continued research.

Donna Hodach-Price

I am looking for any information on Carroll Hignight. His father was John Wesley Hignight and his mother was Cordellia Lowe. The only other information that I have is that he was born in 1905, in Texas. Most probably in Lamar County. Did he die in infancy, a toddler, young adult, etc.? Who did he marry, children? I have a lot of unanswered questions on my great uncle. Any help or leads would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have some very raw data but it could be a place for you to start--and me too. I have been sadly lacking in follow-up. My records show Mary Jane Hignite was born on Feb. 27,1827 in Frankfort K.Y. She married John Stewart Begley in Perry County Kentucky on December 30, 1847. Her parents were Peter Hignight and Rachel Pain or Payne. Rachels mother was Elisha Paybne listed in the 1810 census in Wilkes County N.C. As I say this is pretty raw but it is a place to start. My maiden name was Begley, so Steewart was my great grandfather (I think). Let me know. I would love to hear from you

I'm not sure which Moses this is, but, I would like to correspond with any MOSES HIGNIGHT researcher who has explored or ran across Slave Records of this Moses in Knox County, KY.

Lewis Hignight and his son, James Duncan Hignight, are direct ancestors of mine. I have lots of detail about the son and his progeny, but nothing much about Lewis except for some early MO census notes. Also, I have random bits and pieces references to several other Hignights in MO in the early to mid 1800's, but almost no certain clues for linking them. I'd love to know more about Lewis's father's will. How can we exchange data? My e-mail is indicated hereon.

Appreciate your response.

Great to contact you, Mary. We've been searching for years. I'll send more later, but for now: James went to Chariton County, MO with hid father. Got father's permission to enlist for the Mexican-American War, became ill and was a semi-invalid the rest of his life. Settled in Brunswick, MO; was a photographer; and teacher; married Sarah Elizabeth Breeze 6/12/1864. They had four daughters: Mary (infant death), Sallie (died as a young unmarried woman), Beula (my Grandmother), and Bernice (whose life details I also have). James died 6-10-1901; his wife died 6-10-1915. Would appreciate any and all about his Hignight ancestors; his family history has always been a mystery for us.

It seems like the Hignights all came from the Arkansas area. My Hignights were from the Havana area at the foot of Mt. Magazine. My mother is a hignight, and doesn't know anything about the origin of the name, her father, Charles Hignight, died when she was young as did all the Hignights of T.B. Charles' father was William Nathaniel b. 1852, and his father was Thomas Gladstone Hignight , no date of birth, and that is as far as our family records go back. If anyone has any history on the Hignight name or any of these names PLEASE contact me at tmtc20@aol.co thank you.
