Hello Everyone!
I'm hoping this post will lead me to some answers that I have been searching for for quite some time!! My g g grandmother was Anna Patricia (possibly Tarthrina instead of Patricia) Beard. She was born approx 1874. She had a brother named William Oliver Beard (he went by Oliver, b approx 1870). I believe their mother was Laura Beard (maiden name unknown)and father was Franklin Beard. Oliver married Hattie E. and had 3 daughters: Bertha, Lucy Bell, and Maude Beard. He ran an ice cream shop/restraunt in Carthage, SD. His 3 daughters are believed to have returned down south where (it is believed) they were all originally from. Anna Beard married Jesse V. Crane. They had 5 children before her death in 1907 (Raymond, Franklin, Oliver, Ethel, and Baby Crane). Only 2 of the 5 children lived: 2 died of pneumonia and one was a still birth. The 2 that lived were Oliver Irvin Crane and Ethel Ann Crane. Anna had died when Oliver was 7 years old. He remembered that his grandmother had came to SD to take care of his mom when she became sick and stayed until she died. After Anna passed away and was buried, the grandmother (who we believe was Laura), left behind her son William Oliver Beard (the only living child she had remaing from what we can tell) and all 5 of her grandchildren and returned to her home. I do not know where her home was. I don't know if she remarried cause it seems odd to leave all her family behind to return to no one. Anyhow, what I know of Anna and William Oliver Beard's mom...........she had a 1st marriage to a minister (name unknown) that ended in divorce. He was abusive. They had no children. She then married Franklin Beard and had 2 (maybe 3 children). But Franklin became sick and she took him to the hot springs to see if that would help him recover. It didn't and he died at a young age. I found a census record from 1880 for Dade Co, MO with a Laura Beard mentioned as a window with 2 children: Anna and Oliver. I believe this to be my family. The census record is for the same county that later shows record of Anna marrying Jesse V. Crane.
The problem I have is I can not find any record of Laura after 1880. I know she was alive in 1907 when Anna passed away. I don't know if she remarried and if she did, who? Did she have more children? Where was her 1st marriage and to who? What was her maiden name? I've looked at census records that William Oliver Beard (her son) had filled out over the years in SD........and every census record every 10 years, the place of birth for his mother changes! He listed 3 different states on each of the 3 census records I looked at. The 3 states were: Kentucky, Tennessee, and Ohio. The census record I found for 1880 in Dade Co, MO that she filled out (if this is the right woman with the 2 kids), put her birth place as Illinois.
If you have any information that can help me locate Franklin Beard's line, who Laura was and her line, or any information on the children of William Oliver Beard it would be so appreciated!!!!!!!!
