Hi

Yes, I am able to help you more with your family. John I believe was born in about 1876, and he married a 2nd cousin. His father was David Hilditch, who married Angnes Thompson 12 December 1857 at Raloo. He lived in Carrickfergus - actually the hinterland behind it - where he farmed.

I do have more but am just about to go out. I do have details of the siblings/ Margaret etc - I can send more tomorrow.

Best wishes.

I am part of the Australian Hilditch clan - there are not a great number of us but I think there could be more than I know about!. I am trying to discover more about Congleton and the family and hoping to visit next year. My link is George Hilditch who married Harriett Staton. I think that we are connected with the Hilditch/Albiston group but not as direct descendants. We are cousins etc.

Dear Claire, I am the grandaughter of the late Ernest HIlditch who was from the macclesfield area but moved tho Congleton when he married Clarice Mc Cleavy. I know he came from a large family, one of which was his brother who was an ambulance driver. Unfortunatly I only know a little about the Hilditch family from what my grandmother had told me before she passed away last year. The Hilditch name has now expanded in Congleton, there are currently 22 of my Hilditch family living in the town. If you would like to know more then I am more than willing to help, as I am also eager to find out more information about our local family history. Hope to hear from you soon.

Kind Regards,

Melissa Hilditch.

My grandfather was a Fred Hilditch although walked out on my grandmother when my father & his sister were small. My father had little to do with him even up to his death in the late 1970s. My father Lawrence Hilditch has his father's birth certificate but I have yet to dig this out. My grand father who I never met was named Frederick John James Hilditch & according to my dad had a brother who lived around the corner to them in Bermondsey, London named Bert although he believes they had no children. He is not aware of any other aunts or uncles although he had a cosuin not sure whether first or second called George Hilditch who lived out Suffolk way (Constable country). I met George in late 1970s so if he is still alive I would put him at well into his 80s now. Fred lived his later life down in Catford & never divorced my grandmother & is buried in Hither Green. Not much more I can add I am afraid.

Regards John Hilditch

I can be reached at hilditch@shaw.ca, or through this website. There were many Thomas' in the area at that time, however, that living that close to Crewe< Haslington is very close to other locations where family members were born. There could be a connection here!! I look forward to hearing from you soon.

The Hilditches were quite prolific in Audley... Shoemakers, Butchers, Grocers and later seemed to have partnerships in a colliery and brick works. They also moved in latter generations to Liverpool, Brighton and some stayed in Audley parish. Need Thomas' christening!! Any matches ???

Hi,
I came across references to Hilditch in the Recusancy rolls in Staffordshire, dating from the time of Elizabeth 1. These have been published by the Staffordshire (Historical?) Society. ( I may have a copy of the reference somewhere in my notes) There are also references to Hilditch family members in the parish of Betley in Staffordshire, dating from the 1500s.

Hilditch family in Antrim

I am trying to track down any descendants of the children of my gt gt uncle, Samuel Hilditch. Sam was born in Antrim, probably in Belfast, or possibly in the Ballyclare/Ballyeaston area, about 1861, the son of Hugh Hilditch and Agnes McConnell. He worked at Harland and Wolff shipyard, in Belfast. He and his wife Esther had two children, Sam and Minnie, and the family later lived in Bangor. Sam (senior )was widowed. He died in Newtownards Hospital in 1937. I would also like to try to find his entry in the census there.
I am also trying to track down any other relatives. Two of his brothers moved first to Scotland, then later to England. Another brother moved to Canada, and a fourth brother moved to the US. I would also like to find the death information for his parents. Hugh appeared to have died somewhere about 1877, possibly in Belfast. Agnes was alive in the early 1880s but I cannot find any death entry for her (though this could be due to the many different ways Hilditch can be spelt!) Sam had sisters Margaret, Edith, Elizabeth and Agnes, but we cannot find any details about them and they seem to have vanished into thin air. They would have been born somewhere between 1844 and 1861.
Any information at all on this elusive family would be most welcome.

My grandmother was Ethel Hilditch b. 1918 in Burnley, her father was William Hilditch b.1881 in Burnley but he was married twice firstly to Elizabeth Hirst b.1881 we think there was two boys who would have been born c.1903, he later married Martha Howard who was my grandmothers mother. A story goes that one of the boys signed up to the army (underage) and subsequently fell out with his father and left to go back to the family in Congleton.
Williams siblings were Elizabeth b.1878 & Thomas b.1883.
Williams father was Thomas Hilditch b.1852 and mother Ellen Wainscott b. 1855 his siblings were Henry b.1850 & Ellen b.1854 all born in Congleton.
Thomas' parents were Thomas b.1814 in staffordshire and mother Elizabeth b.1820 in Sandbach. Does this ring a bell to anyone?
