Howdy!!! I'm 54... I grew up at Port Union Ohio just a mile or two from the old Rialto Paper Mill (or what was left of it...) My ggGF Lot Johnson used to be in charge of the locks there at the ice pond/Erie Canal... We lived with
my ggAunt Mary Olive (Johnson) Brooks... She was the dau.
of Lot & Sarah Ann (Jones) Johnson... Sarah was a dau. of
James Jones & Julia Ann Hileman. I have all of Aunt Ollie's old family pictures (of Jones's, Johnson's, Hileman's, etc...) Aunt Ollie was born in 1868 and died in
1968... As a little boy, she told me many stories about the "olden days"... Her family were evidently "Copperheads"
followers of Van Landinham, who was prosecuted for treason
due to his opposition to "Lincoln's War". Aunt Ollie actually had a picture of Van Landingham in one of her
albums. Aunt Ollie was the older sister of my gGM Mabel
"Johnson" Brooks. I am aware of several living who still
carry the name "Jones"...they are the descendants of
Howard Jones...He was a younger cousin of Aunt Ollie's who used to come see her often. Howard was the gSon of James &
Julia, and the son of John Jones (1845-1909) I knew Howard
very well... One of his great grandchildren live here in Bethel, Ohio near me... All I can find in my records about
James is who his siblings were~ Jacob(b.9-30-1804) John
(b.2-15-1806) James (b.9-10-18o8) Eizabeth (b.12-16-1809)
Jonas (b.1-9-1812) Joseph (b.1-6-1814) Jesse (b.3-8-1816)
No dates for death are given, so I assume info came from either Aunt Ollie's memory (which was perfect till age 100)
or from note in some family record that had not been completed... I know nothing more of their origins...
Hope this helps a little. James Jones was my gggGF...
Your Jonas would be my gggUncle...So however that works out... Hey! There, Cousin...
I'm a preacher...Graduated from Kentucky Christian College in 1976... Have been the Preacher at the Saltair Church of Christ in Bethel, Ohio, since 1984...
