Random Hileman Information

My mother received some tidbits of information over the Christmas holidays. I don't know if any of it would be helpful for any of you.. but here it is:

My Great-Grandfather, Charles Edward Hileman, born 12/24/1869, died 5/9/1944. His pall bearers were listed as his newphews... Fred Pickle, Dennis Helton, Warren Hileman, Doyle Hileman, Harley Apple and Lester Apple. He is buried in Anna, Illinois, and from what I have found, several of those men were from that area. Also, according to what I have, Charles Throckmorton married Amanda Hileman in Muncie, Indiana. Somehow, Charles and Amanda are connected to a Chester Leon. Sorry for the scanty info. Am just digging whereever I can find a shovel :0) This is the only Indiana name I have, but my grandmother used to say our family mostly came from Indiana.

Hi

Looking for anyone with information on the HILEMAN's in Armstrong Co., PA. My (3)gr grandmother was Mary Ann HILEMAN B: 1828. Only info we have is her fathers last name as HILEMAN or HILLMAN. Family story is that she and a brother traveled down a 'big' river on a 'big' boat and ended up in southwestern PA (Green Co. area). We do not have the brothers name. She is believed to be a Native American and we are guessing she was adopted or taken in by the HILEMAN family. She eventually married a COOK. If any of this sounds familiar to someone, I'd really appreciate some help.

Thanks
Patty

Hi,

We are purchasing a house very close to Hollidaysburg, PA Blair county. It is located in Frankstown Township (on a road called Lower Brush Mountain Road).

I was told that the Hileman family had this house built in 1908. It had some acreage. I have also heard that many Hileman's lived in the area and were mostly farmers, however the Hileman who built our house was a violin maker. Does anyone know anything about this family of Heilman's?

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much!

Lisa

HILEMAN correction

I have noticed on quite a few files some misinformation about my gr gr grandfather JONAS HILEMAN/HEILMAN. Hopefully this post will lead to corrections. Many have JONAS as being married to an ANN with issue as NETTIE, MAUDE, HERMAN & RALPH. This info is not correct. After searching census images I found in 1900 a JACKSON & ADA HILEMAN with issue of Nettie, Maud, Herman & Ralph. JACKSON was the s/o ALEXANADER (s/0 Solomon)
I base my findings for JONAS on Civil War records from NARA. In them you will find:

JONAS was the s/o of DANIEL & SUSANNAH HANKEY HEILMAN, bn. In Armstrong Co., PA 25 Jan. 1847, d. 30 Jul. 1929, Hillard, FL.
Married to REBECCA BEE, bn . abt 1854-24 Dec. 1910
Issue;
BENJAMIN FRANKLIN-21 April 1871
ARIMITA-Sept.16,1873
MARGARET-23 June, 1875
ESTER-9 Oct. 1877
ALICE- 20 Aug. 1880
MARY W.- 3 July 1885-d. 3 July 1885
JOHN-23 March 1887-d. 25 March 1887
JOHN E. 6 Jan 1895

Another marriage to MRS. JENNIE FORD(3rd marriage) . (Through court records JONAS’s 2nd wife was a EMMA KNICKERBOCKER).

In the 1850 census for DANIEL & SUSANNAH there is a child age 4 that looks like JAMES. I believe this to be JONAS. I can find no other record for a JAMES in DANIEL’S family.

I hope this will help other HILEMAN/HEILMAN researchers & correct the current files on the web sites.
Georgia Hileman Halloran
I have a small photo of Eva, daughter of John Henry Hileman and Sarah Lydia Lanier. She must have been born between Jan 1854, when her parents married and Aug 1855 when both of her parents died. I would say she is in her early 20's. If there are any relatives that would like to have this picture please respond to this message.

Hileman/Heilman Surname Reconstruction Project Initiated

Hi all,
I have initiated the first Hileman/Heilman (and spelling variants) Surname Reconstruction Project through FamilyTreeDNA.com . With a simple pain-free swab from inside the cheek, you can learn what family lines you belong to and which you do not. You can learn who you have a common ancestor with and when. Also learn about your unique family migration pattern and point of family origin.

I have always been extremely involved in trying to find my ancestor, Michael Hileman's father. It is allegedly Christian Hileman. I am optimistic that this project will answer this as well as connect my line to many of your lines.

I encourage you to check out the DNA testing information, all the benefits of this testing, as well as the Hileman Surname Reconstruction Project at http://www.FamilyTreeDNA.com . To go to the Hileman page just type in "Hileman" in the "Search by surname" at the top-right of the page.

The cost is surprisingly cheap for what you get.. $99 for the Y-DNA12" Test. Please participate. Your participation will not only reward you but help all current and future Hileman researchers. This is an exciting adventure and I do hope you will be travelling along with us. Please Contact me if you have any questions.

Hal Hileman

Hileman Y-Chromosome Testing?

Does anyone know if any Hileman has participated in Y chromosome
testing? In my Hileman research it would be very useful to know if the
various Hileman lines located around PA in the c1776 had a common
ancestor. I would be willing to take the test but the results would be
of marginal value unless their were tests done to males of other Hileman
lines in which to compare.

If anyone has any Info or willing to participate please drop me a
line.

Thanks,
Hal Hileman

Henry Hileman was born Feb. 25, 1819 in Huntington County, Penn. He Married Elizabeth "Betsy" Moore on Jul. 15, 1842. He died on Dec. 24, 1899 in Saybrook, Illinois. I know he had at least two brothers, Michael Hileman, who possibly lived in Warren, Illinois in 1899, and a brother John Hileman who possibly lived in Waterloo, Ia. in 1899.
Henry's son James Hileman of Howard, Kansas is my GG-Grandfather.
Henry's wife Elizabeth Moore was born Jan. 23, 1820 in Maine and she died Oct. 31, 1902 in Saybrook, Illinois.
I would like any information regarding Henry and Elizabeth's parents and siblings.
I do know that Henry's Father was born approximately 1765 and died in 1869, his Mother was born approx. 1783 and died 1865.

I found that my sister Margaret Ann has died, but Lucille, Tommy and Billy still all live in IL. Tommy and Billy and their wives and I had a great reunion the end of August. I am leaving from CO, where I live now, to go back to IL this weekend to meet their families. When you and I corresponded in Jan 2003, I was Shirley Cardenas. I hope that you have had just as good luck finding your family.

Found photos of Hileman woman

In my travels, I see family photos lost in antique stores.
I think this is sad and I feel a sense of obligation to
try and return them to their rightful families.
So, I have set up this website to do just that.
All of the photos I buy have names and
dates or places on them.

Recently I acquired six photos and a prayer book.

The first photo is a cabinet photo from the 1800s.
It shows an elegant lady in Clinton, Iowa.
On the back it says: "Nellie Hileman Bauder"
Mother of Dorthy Leona Bauder who married George Vest Martin.
La Dorna May Martin Jan. 30, 1918
They had one daughter born April 12, 1920
who married Wm. George Frish April 24, 1937
They had 4 children: Shirley, William Jr., Robert and Gary."
The second photo shows two children
Gerald Lee Martin 22 months and Laclorna May Martin 16 months.
The third photo is of an unnamed child.
There is also a prayer book with land maps and letters.
The book was given to Mrs. Frish from Margaret Tuttle.
The map appears to show properties in Marinette, Wisconsin
Note: These items were with 3 Army engineers photos.

If you are interested in bringing this photo back
to the Hileman family, contact me at:
BobKing@NorthLink.com

Hi. I've been researching the "Hileman" line but ran across something interesting that I need some more info on (hoping you could help). A friend of mine will be having a German exchange student for a couple of weeks next month and his last is Heilmann. I've seen the "Heilman" spelling before but not "Heilmann". Do you have any info on this spelling or do you know which line this might be connected to. I'm going to attempt contacting the young man before his visit to see which line he comes from but I'd also like some info before I talk with him.

In the 1830 Census of Frankstown Twp., there is a daughter of unknown name in Andrew's household who was born 1810-15, which means she could be Eliza. Andrew's wife was named Elizabeth; he was the son of Johann George Michael KAPP & Susanna Margaret SCHNEIDER/SNYDER.

She married a John Shafer on 11 March, 1806 in Rockbridge County, Virginia.

I'm guessing at least one of their children (who I thought was borne to John and a different woman) was named Philip Hileman Shafer AKA Philip Hileman Shaver.

Any help would be appreciated.

--Josh Jenkins--

HI, What a lovely place to live!! We certainly enjoyed our visit there last Sept. I have found she married a DAVEY and lived to be quite old. I see there are other Hilemans in MT and wonder when they arrived there. In a BLM record a couple of them came from PA but I haven't connected them to anybody. Will write to you.
