Dorothy Sargent Hiles
Dorothy Sargent Hiles, age 87, of Harborcreek, died Sunday, January 4, 2009. She was born in Erie, Pa. in 1921, daughter of the late Richard and Mary Chapin Sargent. She graduated from Erie Business College and was in the Continuing Education Dept. at Penn State/Behrend for over 10 years until her retirement in 1987. Prior to that she had worked at Byrd Erie Oxygen and the Federal Bankruptcy Court. She was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church. The widow of Harry R. Hiles, she is survived by one daughter, Marcia Beerman of Atlanta, Ga.; two sons, David Hiles (Elaine) of Pittsburgh and Ron Hiles of Erie; one brother, Sam Sargent of Florida; six grandchildren, Ruth and John Beerman, Michael and Mark Hiles, and Rachel and Stephen Hiles; one great-granddaughter, Alora; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Ernest, Richard, Clarence and Cecil Sargent and one sister, Myrtle Dunn. Friends may call at the Dusckas Funeral Home, Inc., East, 2607 Buffalo Road on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. and are invited to attend a Funeral Service Friday at 10 a.m. at Messiah Lutheran Church with the Rev.
