She was formerly employed at

and retired in 1982.
Mary loved her family
and enjoyed reading.
Besides her parents she was preceded
in death by her husband Donald M. Hiles,

and Robert P. Yost Sr.
Survivors includes sisters Ruth Dorrance
and husband George of North East
and Esther M. Northrup of North East;
also several nieces and nephews,

I am looking for any info on Christopher James Hiles. He married Mary Ellen Kierstead. They had a son, William Henry Harris Hiles, who was born in Cape Elizabeth Township, Cumberland County, Maine on 22 Aug 1862. Mary Ellen Kierstead was possibly from, or came through, Canada. Christopher James Hiles was lost at sea sometime between 1861 and 1870. Tons and tons of searching has still not produced how he came to be lost at sea. He was not a fisherman according to what records we do have, and no military records have shown him to be associated with the navy. If anyone can help me out at all, I'd really appreciate it!

Looking for any leads on my maternal grandmother, Dorothy Hiles or Dorothy H. Hiles born abt. 1902. in Michigan or anywhere in the Upper Midwest or South Central Canada.

Have not been able to find her in any census for any of the indicated places or periods. Michigan Vital has no records for her. The only record confirming of my mother's Wisconsin birth certificate is a Green Bay directory listing from 1920 for Dorothy who was listed as resident employee of New Bay City Hotel.

She was a native of this county, and besides her husband is survived by two brothers, John and William Parlor, of Spruce. The funeral services were held on Monday morning at 10. Interment was made in the Hice's cemetery, near Florence.

He was born 4 Jan 1822 in Salem Co NJ, son of John & Sarah (Crispin) Hiles. They resided in 1850 in Mannington Twp, Salem Co NJ. In 1880 they were residing in Beardstown, Cass County, Illinois. Still looking for any leads on my maternal grandmother, Dorothy H. Hiles, a woman of Native American ancestry, and likely, appearance.

According to my mother's birth certificate she was born circa 1902 in Michigan. That birth certificate has been partially confirmed by a 1921 city directory listing - Dorothy H. Hiles was an employee and resident of the New Bay City Hotel in Green Bay, WI - on BC she gives her occupation as Telephone Operator and residence as Green Bay.

I have not been able to locate her by name or particulars on any census for any indicated places or times. Have researched the possibility she married or died in Wi in the years immediately following my mother's birth - no results. She may have returned to MI.

I believe they are the parents of Susan Hiles born about 1808 in Pennsylvania.
Susan married Azariah Davis born about 1808 in Pennsylvania. They married August 3, 1829. Susan and Azariah had these children:
Jacob, Job, Mariah, Andrew, Johnathan, Susan, Mahlon.
Moved to Vinton County, Ohio.
Azariah died in the Civil War. He is buried at Camp Shiloh, Tennessee.

Am now looking for a midwestern Son of the House of Hiles with a Native American wife, or ...

Have the results of a Mitochondrial DNA test that indicates my mother Dorothy Muriel Hiles b 1921 WI, daughter of a woman presenting herself as a Dorothy Hiles b 1902 MI was ancestrally Native American. Both Dorothy's were descended from Native American foremothers of Haplogroup C.

Do not think that Hiles, a surname of low incidence, was ever high on the list of electable surnames by Native American women. A Hiles man gave his name to these women.

Wonder if any on this board have any Hiles family history that matches to mine?

Am entertaining all possibilities, am loose about midwestern, cannot vouch for any of GM Dorothy's representations on BC as to age and place of birth. A couple more free-floating parameters for your consideration - Dorothy Junior was illegally, informally but well "adopted" by WI Irish Catholics - might be another line of connection.

Mom tells me that Uncle Glenn is preaching at a Presbeterian Church and Uncle Fred is going through the route of heart problems...sorry to have heard that! How are you and Yours? My family is doing well...I need to get you fully updated, if you didn't hear Beth Lorraine Hiles (Richford) had a son named Kenton Michael bn. Sept 25, 2001 in Boulder, Colorado. He is known as 'KJ'...he apparently has blonde hair and is very cute(but of course). I am attending Mount San Antonio College to get my degree in Sign Language/Interpreting. Its fun, but harder than I thought it would be. On Dale's side of the family, I discovered a 'line' of Deaf which may explain why Sanford turn up also Deaf...I am currently looking into that. Harold Franklin Hiles, 88, of Imperial Beach died Nov. 9. He was born in Washington Court House, Ohio, and worked as a civil service aerospace engineer technician. He served in the Navy and was a member of the VFW in Imperial Beach. Survivors include his wife, Gladys Hiles; daughter, Terri Seeijer of Orange; sons, Daniel Hiles of Costa Mesa, John Hiles of Chula Vista and Victor Hiles of Cornville, Ariz.; brother, Donald Hiles of Long Beach; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Services: 1 p.m. Monday, graveside, Glen Abbey Memorial Park, 3838 Bonita Road, Bonita. Donations: American Diabetes Association, Always and Forever Memorial and Honor Program, ADA Web, P.O. Ida and Sarah died there circa 1902 and are buried in the Hiles family plot in what is now a private cemetery, Wainright, MO.

Retired Railroad man, Thomas married 2d wife, Lovey Franz, cir 1930? He died St Louis area before 1940.

Mrs. J. D. Hiles

Mrs. Nancy Hiles, 73 years old, wife of J. D. Hiles, died this
morning at 3:15 o'clock at her home at Tucker Run, near Dunbar. She had
been ill for two weeks. Mrs. Hiles was born and reared in the community and
lived there all her life. She is survived by two sons and four daughters.
They are Joseph Hiles, Furnace; William Hiles, Tucker Run; Mrs. Albert
Brooks, Dunbar; Mrs. Charles Camp, Poland; Mrs. Gladys Hamlet, Florence,
and Mrs. Clara Jaynes, Wheeler.

The funeral will probably be Sunday.

Henry Hiles of Dunbar, Fought in the Civil War.

Henry Hiles, 72 years old, a veteran of the Civil War died Sunday morning
at home at Dunbar. Funera1 Tuesday afternoon at 1:45 o'clock from the family
residence near the Dunbar Furnace. Services were held at 2:30 o'clock
from the Methodist Protestant Church at Dunbar. Rev. T. M. Gladden, pastor of
the church and Rev. D. E. Minerd officiated. The funeral was in charge of the Dunbar Grand Army of the Republic Post No. 165 of Dunbar of which the deceased was a member. Interment in Mount Auburn cemetery in charge of Funeral Director J. R. Foltz.

Mr. Hiles was born at Dunbar December 12, 1840, and resided there
nearly all his life. He was known by practically every man, woman and
child in Dunbar. At the outbreak of the Civil War, he enlisted in Company K,
Second Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Heavy Artillery and was wounded in
the battle of Petersburg in Virginia. At the close of the war he was
honorably discharged. He was twice married. His first wife was Miss
Hannah Sidebottom. His second wife who was Miss Martha Tressler, died last January.

He is survived by the following daughters, Mrs. Rebecca Martin
of Dunbar; Mrs. Newton Lowry of Hopwood; Mrs. Susan Clements of
Connellsville; one stepson, John Holland of near Ohiopyle; one sister, Mrs. Mary Klink of
Dunbar and two brothers, John Hiles of Humbert and Jacob Hiles of Dunbar.

Frank & Sally had Frank W Brown Jr, Mary Brown, and Elsie Brown. Frank Jr married Eva unknown; children were Albert Warrington Brown, Owen Edwin Brown, and Dorothy Brown. Frank Sr had a brother, Richard, who also married a Sally. Richard & Sally lived in Mickleton, NJ; children were Rachel Brown, Willie Brown, and Clinton Brown. Clinton married Hannah unknown. Albert W Brown retired from the US Navy & taught high school math in Gloucester Co, NJ.

I was born on Jan. 18th 1961, presumably in Bowling Green County Ohio. My adoptive parents briefly saw a paper that contained my birth name, which was Pauline Hiles. The story given my parents at my adoption, was that my birth parents were un-wed college students. They alsp told them they were methodist, sang in a choir, and my maternal grandmother was diabetic. My birth mother was "sent away" to have me, and very shortly before my birth, by birth father was killed in a car accident. I was given up for adoption at three days old. Who knows how much truth there is to this, if any, but I thought it was worth a try to see if there are any "Hiles" out there who may be familiar with any of this story. I've always wondered what nationality I am, would anyone be able to fill me in on the origin of the Hiles name and the possible nationality? Thank you so much.
