John Hiles Jr who died in 1875, McLuney Station, was actually born January 12, 1788... documented from a New Lexington obit. He was first married to Charity Reed in 1811. This union produced at least fifteen children. She died in the mid 1830s, and John remarried a Nancy Crosby (Crosbie) about three years later. This union, if I remember right, produced four or five children. John is the son of John Hiles Sr and the widow, Mary (Timothy) Kelsey. John had numerous half-siblings: Nathan, Jonas, Eliphilet, Enos, and possibly Jake, and at least one full-sibling, Christopher Hiles, born November 30, 1790. Hope this helps.

There were several John Hiles' at this time. John Hiles Jr, son of John & Mary Hiles was born January 12, 1788 and married Charity Reed in 1811. She passed, I believe, in the mid 1830s. They had 15 children. John Jr remarried about three years later to Nancy Crosby (Crosbie). They had a son named James. John Hiles Jr is the older brother of Christopher Hiles, born November 30, 1790, and both are listed as living next to each other on several censuses. John dies in 1875. Harriet Seeley was my grandfather's sister. I had found the 1850 census information previously but when I found another reference to her marriage to Samuel and then your post, I decided she was probably my relation. At this point I have very little information on this family; or any of the Seeley clan from my gggrandfather down. I just decided this evening to go looking again (found you) and hope you can help me some with at least Samuel and Harriets family. I have a lot of Seeley and collateral relatives back to 1630 when they arrived in America. Also odd and ends from my gggrandfather forward.

I'm not deep into this, but my grandfather, Raymond (Miller?) Hiles lived in or around Lancaster, Ohio most of his life. He was born in 1901, I believe, and was married to Nora Grace Reid. They had three daughters: Ruth, Joan, and Betty. My mother is Joan.

I don't know the answer to your question, but my grandfather was Raymond Hiles, born in 1901 I believe, and lived in or near Lancaster, Ohio most of his life. His father worked for the railroad, his mother died giving birth to him, and his grandmother raised him.

I have an Andrew Hiles married to a Mary Pauline McKnihgt. Thay had three sons: Jacob, John, and Henry. Mary was born about 1812. I guess Andrew was about 20 yrs old when he married. that would make one of the children born about 1820-1813. Does this help?

You gave me more info than what I had. I did not know the name of Isaac Sr's. parents. On Bertha Hiles McFarland (Isaac Sr's daughter) death certificate the mother's name is blank. I wish I had more. I had a picture of him, Etta and childern.

Can you tell me Isaac's 1st wife's name or know the parentage beyond his parents John and Briget HILES?

Isaac John HILES, Sr., s/o John HILES and Bridget STANLEY. Isaac, Sr married 2nd wife: Joetta ANDERSON whom died in child birth.

The Stanley indicated b. Apr 04, 1906 later moved to Volusia Co., FL passing away/buried in 1974. I know his son Leroy and family.

His grandson is married to my sister...I've been browsing/compliling an outline of the direct HILES surname for them so that my neice or nephew can pick up from there.

Hello, I found some info. on John Hiles b. 1845 married to Samantha Liston. 1910 Census Stewart, Fayette Pa. John Hiles age 64, Orvil Hayes age 8.

1920 Census Henry Clay Twp. Fayette Co., Pa. Samuel Crawford age 40, Mary Hiles Crawford age 50, Hay Orville age 17, Hiles Florence age 19 servant and John Hiles age 74 father in law.

Looking for Samantha Liston married to John Hiles in Fayette, Pa. The 1860 Census has John Hiles age 14 at home with Andrew and Mary Hiles. The 1870 Census has John age 23, Samantha age 25 and daughter Mary age 1 living in Dunbar. The 1880 Census had John age 33, Samantha age 35, Mary age 11, Henry age 9, James age 6, Andrew age 4 and Susan age 1 living in Dunbar. I have a OBIT. Sarah Jane Murray age 97 passed 1981 daughter of John and Samantha Liston Hiles.

I am descended from the Hawk and Hiles lines and have heard the same story (which is very widespread), but I haven't found any evidence to support it. I have not researched the Jordan or Vargo lines.

Looking for the parents of Jacob Hiles. He killed himself March 17 1893. He was married to Melinda Sue Hall They had 8 children. According to the news paper article he had a brother named George. They lived near Dunbar PA. According to his death record John his brother sign the papers.Jacob is buried in Franklin Cemetery in Dunbar.It is posted in find a grave. I believe his father is Andrew born in 1814.
I am the Edward Hiles who posted this in 2000 just started to do this again and my daughter is Leslie.

Looking for any leads on my maternal grandmother, Dorothy Hiles or Dorothy H. Hiles born abt. 1902. in Michigan or anywhere in the Upper Midwest or South Central Canada.

Have not been able to find her in any census for any of the indicated places or periods. Michigan Vital has no records for her. The only record confirming of my mother's Wisconsin birth certificate is a Green Bay directory listing from 1920 for Dorothy who was listed as resident employee of New Bay City Hotel.

I am looking for any info on Christopher James Hiles. He married Mary Ellen Kierstead. They had a son, William Henry Harris Hiles, who was born in Cape Elizabeth Township, Cumberland County, Maine on 22 Aug 1862. Mary Ellen Kierstead was possibly from, or came through, Canada. Christopher James Hiles was lost at sea sometime between 1861 and 1870. Tons and tons of searching has still not produced how he came to be lost at sea. He was not a fisherman according to what records we do have, and no military records have shown him to be associated with the navy. If anyone can help me out at all, I'd really appreciate it!
