HILEY from Bradford, Yorkshire, England

Hi all...it's been a while since I've done this...I get stuck and then give myself a break!! Anyways...

I can trace my family tree back to a Daniel Hiley who was born Abt. 1817 and died Abt 1872. He married a Sarah Walsh who was born around 1815 and died in 1872.

They had 11 children:
Mary
Nancy
Percival
Henry
Sarah
Thomas
William - and a twin who was stillborn
Daniel Garnet
Jane
Fred

Most of these children immigrated to Australia...and I have much more information from there. My major problem is finding any connections to Daniel Hiley...or Sarah Walsh (very common names are soooo difficult). As he died before the 1881 census I can't even find information on where he lived, etc. If anyone could help me out, it would be greatly appreciated!!!

I'd also love to hear from anyone who's interested in swapping information, or may have connections to this lineage!

Happy researching guys!

Cynthia

The only additional information I currently have in my Hiley database is the 1881 British Census listing for Henry Hiley and his wife Ada in Odsall, North Bierley, Yorkshire, England. I don't know anything else about any of Jack Hiley/Iley's descendants.

I am compiling a database of all known Hiley/Highley families in the UK and the former British Empire. I think there were only a few original Hiley/Highley families. I descend from one of these families that immigrated to the Colony of Maryland (current United States) in 1760 from England.

Do you have the family traced back farther than Henry Hiley? I would be very interested in discovering more about Henry, his family, ancestry, and life.

Nathan W.
I would be very interested in knowing more about the source of this family Bible information. Any idea where it came from? This looks like a German-speaking family whose surname Anglicized to "Hiley." I have seen this happen before in Pennsylvania in a case in the 18th century, and possibly also in Wales in the 17th century.

Sincerely,

Nathan W.
If you can figure out your pedigree back to a Hiley born before 1901, or preferably before 1891, I can be of assistance.

Nathan W. Murphy

John Nelson Hiley

I am a great-granddaughter to Wilda Hiley. My grandfather was Clifford (Wilton) from his marriage to Rebecca Hall. I have come across information that John Nelson Hiley (born July 07, 1872 in Kentucky and died June 28, 1951 in Kent, Union County, IA) was married on September 17, 1891 to Silva Martin. Hope this helps a little.

I am the granddaughter of Wilda Hiley. Wilda had three brothers, the one that struck home with me when I read your message was Nelson Hiley (deceased) who lived in Missouri. I do believe he was born in Iowa, however. Another interesting note: Silva is also a family name ( I remember my mother, Wilda's daughter, talking of a cousin by the name of Silva. Another interesting note: I do know the Martin name is in our family history somewhere. I have always been told that "Grandpa Jack" came from Kentucky, and that no one really knew where from, etc. He was (if I am not mistaken) a country peddler type, and would visit the farm with a wagon and horse. There was also a Grandpa Andy I believe. I am going to see my mother tomorrow and I will try to get some history from here.

I note that your query is now 3 years old and you've probably moved on a lot since then. I have a little more on the William Hiley you mention. I don't think he was Francis Isaac's grandfather though as he was aged 76 and unmarried in 1901. He died 9 July 1901.

Francis Isaac HILEY, born in 1946 at Monmouth, Wales

I am looking for details re siblings and antecedents of Francis Isaac Hiley, born in 1946 at Monmouth, Wales (I think). He married Maria Phillips at Abervagenny, Wales on 20/5/1876.

They had a daughter Mary born 15/5/1877. They moved to NSW, Australia sometime between then and 1880. Had a son William Thomas Hiley DOB 3/10/1880 in NSW. He is my grandfather. Francis died (in NSW) in 1897.

Francis' parents were William and Mary. I suspect William was the son of Francis, a Baptist minister DOB 1781 at Monmouth, DODeath 1860. Francis' parents were William & Anne Harry, married at Monmouth in 1777. William & Mary had 5 children - Margaret (christened 1778, married to Lewis in 1799, died 1837); Francis (? Francis Isaac's grandfather?); William (c 1782); John (c 1784) & Samuel (c 1795).

I have everything from Francis Isaac down (in Australia).

Graham Hiley
Brisbane, Queensland
Australia

His Great great grandfather was William Hiley b. 1847 to parents Hannah (b.1814) and James or William- not sure yet. The William on our tree has a sister Hannah who I believe may be your ancestor. There were 10 survivng children in the family. We still live in the Halifax area, any info you can share would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you. Carol.
