Looking for hilfmans' from Russia

Hilfman relatives

My greataunt Ruth has said all Hilfmans are related. I am the great-granddaughter of Abraham and Rachel Hilfman who settled in West Liberty, Iowa early in the 1900s. They later moved to Iowa City. I always thought the Hilfmans came from Germany but have recently been led to believe Russia/Poland/Lithuania might be more the answer. Abraham and Rachel had 8 children. They left the West Liberty farm because they could only afford college educations for their children if they could live at home and go to school. He became a watch repairer/jeweler upon moving to the U of Iowa town, next to the synagogue.
