LaVern Hilgendorf
LaVern L. Hilgendorf, 80, of Watertown, passed away unexpectedly at home on Monday, Dec. 1, 2008.
LaVern was born on Oct. 7, 1928, in Rocksbury, son of William and Alice (Wegner) Hilgendorf. He served in the U.S. Army in Korea and Japan. He married Jeanette Mayer on Nov. 24, 1971, in Clearwater, Fla. He was a route driver for Du-Al Gas in Friesland for 20 years, retiring in 1993.
LaVern was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Watertown and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 3709 of Watertown. He loved to fish, hunt, rebuild machinery and spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Jeanette Hilgendorf of Water-town; nine children, Bryon (Nancy) Hilgendorf of Charlestonn, Ind., Randy Hilgendorf of Kansas City, Mo., Duane (Hazel) Mayer of Watertown, Gerald (Gail) Mayer of West Bend, Barbara (Wayne) Jagow of Sevierville, Tenn., Kent (Helen) Mayer of Roger, Ariz., Terry Mayer of Horicon, Jo Ellen (Greg) Merkt of Watertown and Steven Mayer of Oshkosh; 19 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Marie Hilgendorff of Watertown; also a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Michael; a brother, Harris; sisters, Bernice Horn and Elfrieda Wagner; two grandsons and one great-granddaughter.
Memorials to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Watertown would be appreciated.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Pederson Funeral Home in Watertown with the Rev. David Groth officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Horicon.
Visitation will be held on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
