Surnames: Hilger, Hilgerd, Hilgar
I have several documents relating to a Valentine Hilger. At this time, he lived in Allegheny County, PA. His will states that his wife is Rachel and that he had a brothers, Henry, Rudolph, and I'm fairly certain I read Peter also. I looked at many documents in the Butler County, PA courthouse that day but also feel certain that I saw the name "Lena" who is possibly a sister. These names were recycled thoughout the family as Valentine also had a son Rudolph who had sons Henry and Peter. The name is spelled variously Hilger and Hilgerd. It later came to be Hilgar for our family. If anyone thinks that this is their family, I will send them the documents. They include Valentine's will, and several Hilgar land transfers for property in Slippery Rock Township, PA which is in the northern part of Butler County. There is some mention of "deprciation land" given to Valentine from his brother, Henry. If I am not mistaken, this indicates that Henry was a soldier in the Revolutionary War. Of course, the documents are all hand-written but fairly legible as copies of old documents go. Valentine was my 4x great grandfather. The will is dated April 30, 1829.
