I am looking for information from descendants of the Hilgers or Kurt/Cuert families who lived in Grant County, WI. My ancestor Michael Hilgers, b. Dusseldorf, Germany, abt. 1803, married Gertrude Louese in the late 1820's. Michael died in Germany and Gertrude brought their 5 sons to an uncle's in Potosi, WI, abt 1850. The sons were: Michael, John, Charles, Theodore, and William. Charles and Theodore both served in the Union Army in the Civil War. Charles was wounded twice and Theodore was killed. After being mustered out, Charles married Margrete Kurt/Cuert in Potosi, WI, July 7, 1864. Margrete was born April 17, 1846, Khelm, Germany, and came to the USA abt. 1851 with her parents who settled in Potosi, WI. In 1878, Charles, Margrete and his mother, Gertrude, moved to Rooks County, Kansas, where he homesteaded. I know the Hilgers Family was Catholic.
