H. B. Hillyer of Bowie, Texas, PICTURE

I have a picture of a lovely young woman. She is connected somehow to my family. Names that married the Frank and Lena Rivers Allen LORENTZ children are: CLANCY, EDMONSON, PARKER, TRAMMELL, MASON, CLANCY has a connection with a SIMMONS. This picture is specifically in the LORENTZ and CLANCY lines. We do not know of any connection at this time.

THIS IS WHAT MY MOTHER GAVE ME ON IT: This is another picture shaped like the other 2 but this one does not have a name with it. The pin on the neck is a picture of a baby I think, there is a pin that I have but you can only tell it was a picture but not to clear anymore. I think it is part of the Lorentz family the picture has stamped on back H. B. Hillyer Fruit and Seed Farm, Bowie, Texas

LORENTZ line is from Frederick Co, MD, ALLEN line UKN, CLANCY line is from Jackson/Clay Co, TN

If you have a female HILLYER of Texas before 1908 (we know this much), please contact me for a look, if you are interested, and possibly we can find family connections or give her a home.

Sincerely

Carolyn Leverich Atkinson
catkinson54@msn.com

Thank you so much for providing the information about the Hillyer family. You have compiled quite a bit of data. Are you a Hillyer family member? I will definitely include it in my research. Would like me to fax or mail what I have on the Hillyers?. Do you have a photo of Douglas Hillyer? I have one from the newspapers that isn't very good.

No. I haven't finished the book yet. I had to put the project on hold for a few years, but I'm hoping to get back to it soon.

I want to document my sources, so I'd appreciate it if you would contact my personal email. chambersdk@yahoo.com or chambersdk@gmail.com.
He died in 1938 and is buried at Los Angeles Nat'l Cemetery.
When his grandmother died in DC in 1916 she left her home to his mother, Adele Douglas Hillyer.
Douglas and Imogene had a daughter Adele b in 1919. Imogene remarried William H Decker abt 1927 and in 1930 they were in Montclair New Jersey. They had a daughter Nancy.
That's the high points.
Richard Hillyer m. Dorothy Leithe in 1924 in WV

I'm looking for the family of my great-grandmother's sister.
Dorothy Leithe was born abt 1903 in Wheeling, WV and married Richard Hillyer in Feb 1924. He was born in Havana, IL abt 1899. They had 3 children, Richard Burdette, Marjorie, and Yurba Ellen. I know that Richard Burdette was born in Wheeling in 1925 and Yurba Ellen was born in Wheeling in 1931. I believe that Marjorie was born during a trip to Havana, she was a middle child. Marjorie married Herb Romine, who was from IL, and they had a son named Terry and a daughter named Mary Ann. Marjorie and Mary Ann live in Wheeling, WV.
I believe Richard Burdette Hillyer is deceased, I think I found him in the SSDI, but I have nothing on his family or his father's family. My Grandmother told me that Yurba is suposed to be living in CA.

If you know this family, please contact me. I've researched the Leithe's thoroughly. I'd like to have the obituaries for Richard and Dorothy Hillyer, and pictures of their gravesite if possible.
Thanks!
Angela Abel Goldsmith
ps. I've also posted on the Mason Co., IL board

Hi!
I hope this reaches you.
I'm looking for the family of Dorothy Leithe who married Richard Hillyer, from Havana, Illinois. Dorothy was from Wheeling, WV and was a sister of my great-grandmother, Minnie Leithe Latz.
I was told by my grandmother, Beverly Latz Abel, that Dorothy and Richard had 3 children, Richard Burdette Hillyer, Marjorie Hillyer, and Yurba Ellen Hillyer. Your name caught my eye, it's very unique, and I was wondering if you would be the Yurba I've been looking for, or would know this family.
I've got a couple group pictures that were taken at Minnie and August Latz's house during family picnics, that include some of the Hillyer family.

Please contact me if I'm on the right track!
Thanks!
Angela Abel Goldsmith

Yes, Beverly Latz Abel was my grandmother. I'm Jim Abel's daughter.
I did have my info wrong, I rechecked my notes and I must have gotten the names mixed up somehow.
Ohio county, WV courthouse records:
book 76, p. 560 shows:
George Hillyer, 25 yrs, b. Havana, ILLs
m. Dorothy Leithe, 21 yrs, b. Wheeling, WV
3 Feb 1924 in Wheeling, WV by Rev. Aug. C. Rasche

I've not been able to find a birth record for Dorothy in Wheeling. Or for Gertrude, Norma, Frances, or Lena. Actually, I believe that the ones I have precise birth dates for, I got from their death records. (Edward "Bud", Minnie, Eleanor, Carl, and George)
I've got birth, marriage, and death records for most of the family from the Ohio and Marshall county WV courthouses.
I've got information on their parents, Charles and Elizabeth Kleinsorge Leithe, and the siblings of Charles Leithe and their families. (I was a busy bee for a couple yrs a while back!)

I'd be interested in seeing what you've got and what I have that I could share with you.
By the way, I used to work with TJ Romines for a little bit in Wheeling, Marjorie's grandson. He was supposed to introduce me to her, but never got the chance. Now I live 2 & half hours away. :-(

Thank you for responding!
Angela Abel Goldsmith

I know a few of their (Harry/Zema) children are still alive in Ohio/WVA. (Hopefully Sherry will contact me re: this) or anyone else who may have info.

Thank-you.
If you are refering to Zema Lovesey, she was a Blackfoot Indian and is my daughter's gr-gr-grandmother. Zema was born about 1890 and was married to Harry (Harold as you are referring him) Hillyer. They had three sons, Harry, Lawrence and William. If you would like to explore this, please email me. They were living at 2024 Hillyer Place at the time.

I am writing a book about the Knickerbocker Theater disaster and would like to include photos, survivor stories and family accounts of the disaster. They all got land, but it was poor. Their lot for many years was living in sod houses" Would love to share & exchange any family stories you have.
