Dear Nancy,
I'm guessing it is your Hilton side. My third great grandfather, William S. Hilton was listed as "colored' in the 1820 census of Virginia/West Virginia. In the later census records he was passing for white. We are all white as the driven snow so we didn't know about the black blood. A cousin has sickle cell; sorry to hear about your son. Please write me at sdolan@cablespeed.com and I will get family information to you. I would love to hear from any of my black cousins that I lost. William S. Hilton was born in Delaware and married Catherine Coffman.
Regards,
Shari Hargadine Dolan
