My father, Allen Himes was adopted by the Himes family in Flecity, Ohio after his parents Died acording to him there is about 5 or 6 children some went to the Himes and the others went else where. Aunt Irene put an ad in the cincinnati, Ohio papre when she was younger looking for her long lost siblings, she found Ronald, Eddie and Allen. Irene married a man named Dave Allen who passed away last year, it may be possible to research the news papers to find her article just possibly she had mentioned her birth parents. I hope this can help you out.

Hi, Stacy
I'm still here and I do have some information on the Tibbets family but as luck would have it I am currently in Iraq and don't have any of my files with me. Went years without hearing anything and since I got here I have had three contacts, lol. There where two Tibbets sisters Roseanna and Martha who married two Himes bothers Levi (my ancester) and Jacob (hopefully yours). That is about all I remmeber about them but I am thinking that I did find a Tibbets relative on line who did have more information on the family. The I'm heading home for R&R in November and plan to pick up the information I have stored on CD's and I'll get back with you as soon as I have it. you can contact me at desertmage@hotmail.com Thanks, Mike

Hi Mike this is a long shot being you posted this 9 years ago...
You stated here that jabob (Jr) was married to Martha Jane Tibbets would you happen to have the year she was born and where or any other info on her like maybe her parents names. I am of the Tibbets line and have a Martha and there has been much confusion with her as some are saying its to be Martin and not Martha. If your Martha matches what info I have for her...."Eurika," you will have solved a family mystery that will open up the doors to continue on in our family searh. I would so appreciate anything you have for Martha. Thank you so very much. Hope to hear back soon.
Stacy

In response to your 2003 entry on this site with regard to Herbert Himes:
I am Diane Dooley and my great great aunt was Helen Roy Ballantyne (1864-1934). She married Daniel Francis Himes (1849-1886) in 1893. It is our understanding that some of his descendents lived in Mexico. Helen Roy's Sister is our great grandmother, Agnes Ballantyne Windus of Brackettville, Texas, Kinney County. Their parents were James Burn Ballantyne (1829-1877) and Margaret Martin Ballantyne (1828-1902).

Thomas born 1827, served in Civil War. Seems I cannot find if he had siblings, where they originally came from, etc. This Thomas Himes stayed in the Everett, Pa. area. They married into Bennett, Elbin and Johnson.

Jeanne Stiffler

Re: Children of Hibbard Himes and Mary Hunter

Thank you for the information. Hibbard Himes's family has been very hard to find. I've never been able to find Hibbard and Mary Himes past the 1900 census, so have no death date on either of them. Plus Hibbard's name continually changes - Hibbert, Hibbard, and even once as Herbert.

Hibbard Himes and Mary Hunter had 4 known children:
1. Reuben married Agnes Bridges in Iowa and eventually moved to Bemidji, Minnesota. They had two son, Earl and Basil.
2. Lizzie married Virgil Hinkle, moved to California and there I loose them. They had 3 children, Zada, Daryl and Garth.
3. Earl moved to Minnisota where he married Ida Gundelfinger. They had two children, Herbert and Ruth.
4. Lydia, the youngest child, you know about.

Hibbard was the son of Ezra Himes and Maria Wright. He was the 8th child out of 9, my great great grandmother, Lydia Marie Himes Garner, being the youngest.

Mary Hunter was the daughter of John and Eliza Hunter. I don't know much about this line other than John was born in Kentucky and Mary was born in Ohio. John was about 20 years older than Eliza, according to census reports.

It does appear your grandmother was partially named after my gg-grandmother since both shared the name Lydia.

My great great grandfather was called George Hymes. Eventually around 1860 he lived in Independence, Missouri which is in Jackson County and he was prosperous farmer there. He was married to Martha Hymes. He originally came from Pennsylvania and had a family there under the name of Himes. He had several children, became a widower, remarried, moved to Missouri and changed his spelling to Hymes. I think it was interesting that the two George Hymes were both in Jackson County around the same time.

Want to Know more about my Himes Line and branches

My third great grandmother was Adeline Russell Himes, b.July 7, 1837 in Rehoboth, Bristol, MA and died on December 13, 1914 in Seekonk, Bristol, MA. She was the daughter of George & Mary A (Tew) Hymes of Rhode island/Mass. Her father was born in 1788, and had red hair and a fiery temper. He would flair up in a moment and then be over it and sorry. This is supposedly a Himes trait. In the end he enjoyed carving and singing hymns. He died of cancer of the face; back then he put a steak on his check as they thought the cancer would eat the steak and leave the body alone. He ended up bleeding to death when the cancer spread to his jugular vein. This is all I know, with sparse tales on a few lines. His wifes maiden name was possibly Tew from Prudence Island, RI.

Can anyone add to this line? My emailis also dbeals@verizon.net if you have any pictures or anything.
George Washington Himes b.1821 Virginia

I just discovered that George Washington Himes is an ancestor and I'm trying to discover his parentage to take the line back farther. The ancestor I'm tracking says on the 1900 Census that he was born in March 1821 in Virginia and that his father was born in Pennsylvannia and mother in Virginia. On one census record he is listed as being born in Indiana though. His daughter then says on census records that her father was born in Indiana so maybe he grew up in Indiana. In 1844 George Washington Himes is in Johnson County, MO and then in 1850 he's in Jackson County, MO and then he moves to Soquel, Santa Cruz County, CA and stays put there until his death in 1903.
Does anyone know my ancestor and where he fits on the Himes family tree?

It's great to finally connect with someone that ties into this line. I'm 6 generations down from G.W. Himes. I connect though his daughter Margaret Elizabeth Himes who married James Dover. My tree goes Me(Lisa), Laverne Witcosky, Vivian York, Irvin York, Josephine(Josie) Dover, Margaret Elizabeth Himes, George Washington Himes. Then that's were I end. I don't know a lot about G.W. Himes except for some of his children's names with his wife Sarah Freshour. This Dover/Himes line has always been one that stumped us so I hope we can share informaton we know and solve some family unknowns.

It's me again. I am a descendent of GW Hime's daughter Julia Oma (or Omie)Himes. She married Charles H. Huntsman in Battle Mtn. NV but lived mainly in Oakland, CA. Julia and Charles had my grandmother Gladys Huntsman who married Stephen H. Pritchard and they had my mother Genevieve W. Pritchard.
I don't have the names of GW Hime's parents but his wife Sarah E. Freshour's parents were John Freshour and Elizabeth Smith. I understand from a current Freshour relative that there is a book called Freshour Faces that apparently is about our family. As soon I get time I'll try to find it. Have you heard of it?
Do you know about any of his other children?

Thank you.
