My mom and I found a family tree made by my mom's uncle. The tippy top of the tree is George and Dorothy married in 1794.

My gg grandmother was Elizabeth Hindmarsh, b England 1789, m to Robert Waugh, blacksmith, and d in Chesters, ROX, Scotland. D cert gives father as John, ag lab; and mother as Elizabeth Byram.

Any help in unravelling this family would be appreciated.

My greatgreat grandfather was John Hindmarsh who was born in Co. Durham c1821. He was married to Jane and had 3 sons Robert c.1853, Jacob Bell c. 1856 and John c 1859. John emigrated to Canada and married Ellen Paterson and they had 2 children, Joseph Henry and Florence Isabel. John died in Nanaimo British Columbia Canada aged 29 yrs. I am trying desperately to find anyone who could be related in some way.

Greetings,My GG Grandfather was John Hindmarsh,b 1844 at South Shields,son of Robert Hindmarsh,b abt 1802 at Harburn,Northumberland, and Margaret Unknown. A family tale is that he was linked to the Lambton family (Earl of Durham) and also to your ancestor,Sir John Hindmarsh. I am a novice at family research and would appreciate any information you may have on this branch .

Sorry. I thought that I had already posted the results of my email to the Hindmarsh website owner.

The site owner passed away in 2005 and his widow does not share his interest in genealogy. I have seens some pages available as cached pages on Google, but you have to be very lucky with your searches to find them.

I am looking for a Hindmarsh too. Mine is Thomasin Hindmarsh who married Joesph Sheldon of Longbenton, Northumberland England.They had daughter Dorothea Jane who married John Grey-Gray 5 May 1821.Do you know if these are in your Hindmarsh family?

I came across your message and I thought I would let you know that there are still Hindmarsh's living in Newark, Notts.

My name is Karen Hindmarsh and I live in Newark not far from my Mother. My Father was Keith Hindmarsh born in Lincoln 1929 but moved to Newark after marrying my Mum in 1955, I was born 1967.

My Dad's father Frederick Hindmarsh (Born 1900/Died 1997) was born in Lincoln and then moved to Balderton which, is near Newark in 1935.

I am a Hindmarsh, my family are a farming family from Northumberland. Its interesting about the meaning of the name Hindmarsh, myself and my sister have both been involved with horses from a very young age, I even competed at international level in mounted games for several years.
I am a direct descendant of the same family of Hindmarshes who populated Australia - so all australian Hindmarshes you are my long lost relatives!! I will post another thread about that in a minute.

Seems to me it is Alnwick, Northumberland, Ireland. Where the Hindmarsh name originated. I've not been able to find my records since our move. But, there are Coxons, Hindmarsh, Rutherford, Hope names.

Hi -

This sounds like my family. My grandfather was John Hindmarsh who ended up in Nebraska....Hartington, NE to be exact. Seems, according to my father, that he traded a merry-go-round (carousel probably) for a farm. My aunt Mary, my mother's sister, left quite a bit of information with the Cedar Country Historical Society. Letters, etc. quite interesting. They came from Northumberland Ireland and travelled to the US from Liverpool. How are you related?

Barry Suffling, Margo and their family live in the suburbs of Sydney NSW. About 3 years ago they met up with my mother in England. She is called Iris Suffling and she is one of two daughters by his first marriage, before he left for Australia.

I lived in Melbourne street gateshead. I remember as a child being taken into a house in Prior street to see some dear sole that had passed on. That was back in 1953, maybe a coincidence.
I'm just starting with the family tree thing.

Try Tom Suffling in Western Australia - has a business web site on canoe tourism.

My family member Robert Suffling went to Northumberland from Norfolk, to work in the mines in the early 1800s. They had several children there, and a brother of his seems to have made the same move. Robert and family soon moved back to Great Yarmouth. My question is, did they leave some family members in the North and is your line decended from them?

Don't know if you have this information. This week, (Dec. 2004) I visited the Pittston Cemetery and found W. Leonard Fritz's headstone. It read W. Leonard 1874-1946 and his wife Sarah 1882-1937.

Leonard's father, George married my great grand Aunt Margaret Deeble Scott Fritz in the 1920's. That's my connection.

The JANE i have was daughter of GEORGE HINDMARSH and DOROTHY VEACH. Born 1806,married a JAMES LOWES and died at Highfield Dodd in 1862.

I am looking for Jane Hindmarsh born 1795 in Northumberland England married Adam Weir b.1788 Oxnam Scotland son of John Weir and Margaret Rutherford! Adam was baptised in Harbottle Northumberland.

They had two sons that I know of Adam and John both born in Scotland. This family immigrated to Canada in the mid 1800's.

I have heard that the Hindmarsh name was changed at times to Hindmarch. I am trying to find information on Hindmarch's. I have read that the family migrated from Scotland to England. My great-great grandfather was John Hindmarch. All the information I have is that he died in 1875 in Mt. Carmel, Pa. He was married to Sarah Scott. Hi, I am new to the list and new to genealogy.

My name is Glen Christopher Hindmarsh and I
live in Texas. My Gggreat grandfather and family
settled in Nebraska after a short stay in Illinois.

The following is the information I have to work with.

My Gggreat Grandfather William Hindmarsh born 1824 in
England (not sure where in England).

Gggreat Grandmother Agness Rutherford born 1827 in Scotland.

Children:
Adam born 1848 in England
Agnes b. 1850 in England
Margaret b. 1853 in England

In 1855 they immigrated to the United States
and resided in Illinois from 1855 to 1869.
They then moved and homesteaded in Nebraska.
They had seven more children in the U.S. including
two sets of twins.

My parents are still in Nebraska, I'm in Texas, and
my brother is in Colorado. No wonder it is so hard
to find our ancestors.

I hope we can all share some information that
will help uncover the Hindmarsh history we are
all looking for.

Just trawling through some family names and discovered this site. We are based in England and I know that there are many still in the UK. My mothers maternal grandmother was a Hindmarch, but we also have Hindmarsh's in the family group as somewhere along the line, Hindmarch was amended to Hindmarsh. Believe that you have a copy of the family crest, would appreciate a copy being sent to me at the above email address.
