Elias Hines died in Greene Co., GA; but his wife Nancy Hudson Wilson died in Harris Co., GA. She moved there with her son Elias DeJarnette Hines. There was another son Lamach or Lamech Hudson Hines who apparently moved to Alabama. This is proven by court cases involving all the family members. Elias D. Hines was married to (known) Mary Wilkinson and had several children by her including my gg grandmother Sarah A. Hines who is mentioned in Elias' will there in Harris Co., GA and who married a Green(e).

I would be interested in conversing with anyone who has these same ancestors in common.

My great-great-grandmother was Sarah Hines, and she was married to Gardner Remington. I have these 2 entries in my notes. I have no real knowledge who Sarah's family is, but I was always told she was from Washington, D.C. Maybe she was from Washington Co., NY, as this following note is regarding.

1820 NY Federal Census, Washington Co., town of Fort Ann, listed a William Hines. Father of Sarah? In his household there were 2 males under the age of 10, 1 male aged 10-16, 1 male aged 26-45. Also, there was 1 female under the age of 10 and 1 female 26-45. Apparently, William Hines was in some type of manufacturing.

From NEW ENGLAND HISTORICAL SOCIETY REGISTER, Jan 1973, Vol. 127, pg. 50; lists in the 1782 census of Rhode Island a William Hines with the following: 2 males under 16, 1 female under 16, 1 male 22-50, 1 female 22-50, 1 male upwards of 50.

Gardner Remington Was a farmer & shoemaker (apprenticed @ 16). After leaving NY, lived near Alexandria, OH, St. Albens Twp. In spring 1853, moved to Broadhead, WI, 1867 to Iowa City, IA & to Fairview, IA. Passed thru Chicago in early spring as streets were so soft & were so muddy that their wagon got stuck in the main street of town. They had to unload & have help to get out & then reload their possessions before going on to WI.

Dorothy - not sure if you still check this link but thought I'd give you a try. I have a Margaret (O'Donnell) Hines in my family. She is my great great grandmother from Donegal. Her daughter, Mary (Hines) Salisbury, emigrated to the U.S.

I have very little information on this side of the family. I know Mary had a brother named James O'Donnell who lived in NYC and may have been a religious Brother for a time. Mary (Hines) Salisbury had 2 children...Stephen and Anna. Anna is my grandmother...born around 1915 or so. Mary (Hines) Salisbury died in 1917 and made an arragment with Sisters of the IHM for Anna to reside with them. Stephen moved to NYC to live with James O'Donnell.

If any of the above rings a bell please email me directly at lavelle.s@gmc.edu

Thanks!

Seán

Hines from Ingonish

Looking for information about the "Hines" family who moved to Ingonish in the early part of this century. From my great grandmother's obituary I know they had five daughter and one son Jack, Bridget (married Jack Whitty), Gertrude (married a Whitty), Lena (married a McKenzie), Minifred, and Katherine (my Great grandmother married Patrick Griffin). My father believes that Katherine was born in Germany and the family emigrated to Canada after the last released census but I cannot find any information about the names of her parents and or when they came or where they came from. Any assistance would be appreciated.

I'm sorry - but your message here is unclear. Are you asking who Sarah Hines' parents were? Or were you stating that Gabriel Hines was her father? Could you help clarify the confusion here?

It is my GUESS that Gabriel Hines was the father of Sarah Hines - wife of Capt. Harrison Bennett. THAT is the question that I have been asking here (for seven years). If you have infomation which can either confirm or deny that I would appreciate hearing from you. And please provide the specific information which proves it either way if you would. Thanks

I am a descendant of the Cavin line. My grandmother was Sarah Frances Gray. Her mother was Amanda Kelley (Kelly) who married David Gray and then James B. Hines, who was born in VA, Dec. 1831. James and Amanda's children - David J., born in KY in 1870. Leona born in VA 1884, died 1975 in OK. Harrison (Harry) born 1887 in KY and Virgil (Pug) born in TX in 1890. I believe that after Virgil was born, the family moved back to Virginia and then the entire family moved to the Oklahoma Territory.
Any information on this family will be appreciated.
You may reach me at mvcmorton@sbcglobal.net
Thank you.

What I was meaning is that Gabriel Hines is my GGGGrandfather and wanted to know who Sarah's father and mother was?
I had heard a long time ago that she was the daughter of Gabriel's but no proof! Do you have proof of this?
Gabriel married Mary Ann Hughes in Aug. 1817 in Smith County, TN after her came back from the War of 1812! But I don't show any kids till the 1830's! Haven't been to TN to check any Tax Records or anything to see if there were kids prior to the 1830's! I do have all the kids from the 1830's down to me that I can find and do have his Father and 8 other kids! Gabriel was born around 1794-95 and his father was born around 1760!

John M. Hines, Sr.

I am looking for information on a Richard Hines Born 1807 in Virginia. According to census records he lived in Mississippi and Texas (moved to TX in early 1850). Died circa 1864. There is information he and his wife Elmira (Almira, Almyra) lived in Alabama before moving to Mississippi. Does anyone have any info on Richard?

My husband's name is Ernest Richard Hines. His birthday is January 26, 1952. His father's name was Ernest Franco Hines and his mother's name was Margaret Taylor Hines. His Grandfather's name was Ernest Clifton Hines and his grandmother's name was Cleopatra Hines. They were from the Jackson, Ms. area. In their younger life his grandfather owned a circus and met and married Cleopatra. They lived all around because of the traveling circus. They traveled and lived in the area you asked about. I don't know if this is the people you are researching, but maybe. If you would like further information please contact me.
