Dennis Frank Hipkin

I am looking for any information on Dennis Frank Hipkin. He was in the 10th Battalion Lincolnshire Regiment. He was a corporal, made Sgnt for a short time before being busted back to Corporal. Before going to India, his regiment was in Khartoum - Egypt. He had two brothers - A younger one Eric died from Meningitis at 21 and another brother Leslie. The family lived in Grimsby, Lincolnshire. Any help would be much appreciated.

I am a g grandson of Thomas and Ellen E Hipkin. I l ive at Lumsden Saskatchewan Canada . Ellen came to CANADA in1912 following Williams wedding to Ethel M Greetham my grandperets .I think all of Thomas and ellens family came to the Lumsden Disley area to begin with between 1904 -1912 .I now farm and live on one of the farms they settled on .Ellen died May 23 ,1920 at 65 years and si buried in Disley Cemetary with William Dec 4 1922 and Ethel 1936.My father was Thomas Richard Hipkin born May 31 1918 died june 22 2002. he had one sister Mary born 1913 died 1980.

Stuart thanks for your reply I have a birth certificate for James William Hipkin born 29 of june 1884 Stickford R.L.D . entry No 170. I never knew any of my grand parents as they had passed on 10 or more years before my birth. My dad was only 4 when William was acc idently killed while repairing a well in our farm yard . I have very little information on Ellen at all. There was little or no contact with first family of Thomas even though John was best man at Williams wedding . Any info. you can forward me would be appreciated.

you must be related to my son in Law.

His ancestor was Richard Hipkin a miller who married Elizabeth Rogers wisbech,cambs 1851 their daughter Elizabeth married John Butterfield.

There was a young girl named Hipkin from Gedney Hill 1851 census living in Wisbech Old Market almost next door to Elizabeth Rogers was she Richards sister and is this how richard and Elizabeth met I wonder

I find ancestry pretty interesting and my brother searched his name on google too and found another Peter Hipkin and emailed him.

I am the Great Great Grandson of Thomas Hipkin, Isaacs Brother. Glad to be in touch. I wonder if the Brothers photo you mention might be Thomas. That would be really exciting and would bring another generation to life.
Thomass parents were Samuel Hipkin and Mary Anne Christmas. They were married in Sutton St Edmonds near Gedney Hill

I tried before to contact you but my message was returned.

I am the great grandson of Thomas Hipkin who is Isaacs elder brother. It seems that there father was called Samuel and was married to Mary Ann Christmas at Sutton St Edmonds, just a mile and half away from Gedney Hill, approx 1832
We called at both of these villages last week and had a good look around the churches etc.

Also visited Heckington in Lincolnshire where they moved to after Stickford, and where Thomas died in 1912.

Have you any more information. Will be glad to exchange Gedcoms if you have the facility.

If so I can e-mail you what I know from Thomas and Ellen, but most of it came from Rob Hipkin.
Please let me know if you are also interested in Thomas and Eliza's Descendants
I also believe Thomas's Parents were SamuelHipkin and Mary Ann Christmas. Do you have any further news of Ancestors?

Since calling at Stickford a couple of years ago I have made some progress with Hipkins.
Particularly with Thomas Hipkins family thru first wife Eliza Ingamells and second wife Ellen Sewell..
If you would like help with Eliza please let me know.
For decendants of Thomas and Ellen, try Rob Hipkin on hipkin@commerce.usask.ca who gave me a lot of information.
I would also be interested in your branch via James Hipkin as I only have one generation.
My grgrandmother was Annie Hipkin who I can just remember, and I have a photo of her with husband, daughter, granddughter and me.

Thomas Hipkin was my GG Grandfather and had 3 children with his first marriage to Eliza Ingamells; Thomas C., John and Anne. Anne married a Baldock and had 6 children.

Thomas' second marriage was to Ellen Sewell in 1876 and produced 10 children. Two or three boys emigrated to Canada around 1905, Ellen and the rest of her children followed in 1912 after Thomas died. My grandfather told me that Thomas' father's name was Joseph, although Thomas' first marriage certificate says he is son of Samuel. I was also told that Thomas had two brothers, Frederick and John Amos. FreeBMD shows a Frederick Hipkin Woolsey born prior to March 1897.

I was contacted by someone in Australia a few years ago, apparently Frederick had a son, William who had a son Ernest, who had a son born around 1950. That's all I have on Frederick.

Thomasin Hipkin of Norfolk

Thomasin HIPKIN b c 1788 Hackford, Norfolk married William CASTON 1810 in Hingham and died probably 1869 in Hingham. Interested in discovering who her parents were etc. She was living with William in Dereham Rd Hingham in the 1851 census, her occupation, laundress. Any others looking for Hipken in these areas?

My grandfather was Frederick Hipkin Woolsey and was born in 1896 in the Lincoln Boston area. UK. We believe that he may have been illegitimate and Hipkin was the "father's" name as it does not appear anywhere else in our family. Could there be a connection , do you think? I wondered if FHW's mother was in service. Do you know of a Hipkin that was gentry?

Its over two years since you posted your note, but it may still be valid.
Isaac Hipkin was the brother of
Samuel b.est.1843, Mary b.est.1844,
Thomas (my GGGrF)b.24Jul1845, and James b.est 1848.
Father was Samuel, Mother was Mary Ann Christmas b.1817.

I have further unconfirmed info if it is of interest.
Perhaps we can arrange a swop.

HIPKIN of (Sussex?) England

Anyone know of a George Frederick HIPKIN(s) who married Kate Goodger (Goodyer). Kate was born c1871 in Sussex - George may have also been born around this year (and area?).
Apparently, they were married c1910 at St Mary's, Putney, Surrey, England. Kate was a successful Milliner and apparently had shops in London, Paris, & New York. Did they have any children? Any help appreciated.

Hi,

I am interested in descendants of Thomas Hipkin (b.1845, Gedney, Lincs) and Ellen Sewell (b. 1855, Stickford, Lincs) who were married within the registration district of Spilsby, Lincs in 1876. I believe that Thomas and Ellen had the following children (as per the 1881 census):

Caroline Hipkin (b.1877, Stickford)

Jonas Sewell Hipkin (b.1879, Stickford) (Jonas Sewell is also the name of Ellen's father)

Emma J. Hipkin (b.1880, Stickford)

There are three other Hipkin children who are part of the same household according to the 1881 census. However they are all born some years before Thomas and Ellen's marriage in 1876. I am assuming that Thomas Hipkin was married before.

I am related to the Hipkin family via Ellen Sewell who is my first cousin four times removed.

I would love to hear from anyone who has a connection with this family.
