I'm so thrilled I stumbled upon these postings! There's probably no Australian connection now I've seen the information you've provided. I was grasping at straws trying to figure things out and "Auntie Lily" who emigrated to Australia definitely had an adopted daughter named Clara Minetta Bessie Hiscox -- with that in mind, I thought it was possible.

Bringing Bessie's children into the Humphreys family fold would explain why I'd always heard they partially raised ALL the children together as a large and happy family -- That was likely Bessie's children. I think I recall on one of the censuses other children with a different last name (maybe even Chandler?)

I have quite a number of family photos that include Clara. As an old lady/widow she resided with my grandparents. I also have a lock of her hair!

I'm very happy to share any info I have (I'm afraid that's really not too much) and photos. I'm so happy to finally get a bit of a handle on Bessie and will hopefully learn a bit more.
