Those aren't Hix names I've run across yet, but if you post them online somewhere, I'd like to know.
I've discovered the Hixes were rather prolific, like so many families back then, and I've found a gazillion of them I'm not sure how related I am to them.

Hix photos

I have several photos of Hix people. I am descended from Theodor Kapell and Barbara (Bonfig) Kapell. I believe that the Hix are distant relations. I have photos of Walter, Frank, Marie, Bernadine and several that are only labeled "cousins". I also have several photos of the Mann family. I believe the Manns are related by marriage. I would be happy to scan and email any that you'd like. I would also be interested in learning more about the connection to my family.

Jerry I also believe that Greenberry Hix was my gggg-grandfather. I believe Greenberry Jr is my direct line. I don't know alot my Grandfather Elza L. Hix die days before my mother Lula Maud Hix was born so we didn't know that side of the family when I was growing up. I didn't get into this until after my Mother passed away.

My grandfather was Orval Hix (b.1881) His siblings (that I could find) were Oliver, Oscar, Odus, Ola, Otto and Osborn. I think we have a connection. I have not found anything on Ona or Olga. The only picture I have is a young picture of Orval, maybe his early 20's? I would love to know more about these other children of Thomas Jefferson and Sarah Elizabeth (Doss) Hix. I have very little about them or their descendants. Maybe we can help each other.

Terri Lyn (Hix) Amaro (b. 1955)

William Hix (Hicks) m. Frances Morris 1880 Union Co, GA

I have been searching for this couples' parents for years.
I have had about 3 or 4 theories on each, but no positive proof. I think William HIX (b.1861 NC-d.1911 GA) parents are William Riley Hix (b.1834 GA-d.1862 MS) and Melissa Wigley (b.1832 GA-d.aft 1880). I think Frances MORRIS parents are Jerdan C Morris (b.1837 GA-d.aft 1880)and Mary Ann (Unknown)(b.1835-GA-d.?) They are all from the north central area of GA--Union, Lumpkin, Gilmer, Dawson, White, etc.

If you can help solve this puzzle I would be so grateful.
If you have taped into my family tree "Collins-Harper" and my info on them is wrong--I'm so sorry.

All corrections will be welcome!!

Thanks--Pam
Hi Tom,

Yes I am your cousin Nancy. I can't believe after all these years that we would be in touch. I do remember you and Aunt Pauline well. I was sorry to find out on Ancestry that you Mom had died. My dad, Bill died on Sept. 10th 2007 and my brother Mike passed away this past Nov. 25th, both from lung cancer, and my mom Larry died 24 years ago this March of COPD.

My brother died in Arizona. So I had to fly there for his memorial and to bring his ashes back. While there, I got in touch with out cousin, Jim Hix. I hadn't seen him in 20 years! He looks great and is a very successful real estate guy. He's married, lovely wife Barbara, and daughter Jennifer. She's the one that sold my brother his house in Tempe. Jim & Barb had a son, but he died a few years ago in Australia. Our cousin Steve, Aunt Teeny's son died about 5 years ago in Las Vegas. I've run out of room. Love Nancy

The 8th TN Cavalry was a Union cavalry regiment; according to Washington County TN 1860 census a Calvin Hicks son of Eli and Susannah Carson Hicks would have been 14 in 1860 so 17 when the Civil War started and about the right age for him to have been in the Civil War. My own gg grandfather Peter Washington Orren was in the 8th TN Cavalry and was from Washington County, married to a Nancy Hicks in 1850. I am trying to establish a relationship of Eli Hicks to Nancy Hicks as brother, therefore Aunt to Calvin Hicks. Circumstantial evidence leads me to believe this is so. No Hickses in Washington County in 1830, then all of these turn up at one time, and they lived not more than ten miles apart. Want to find out where in NC they came from.

Noticed you post while looking for further information on Eli Hicks, born about 1815 in North Carolina. He (Eli) is listed in 1860 Washington County census age 35 with wife "Carson" later determined to be Susannah Carson as marriage license is in Washington County. She is 35 born TN, and in their household are James 8, Calvin 4, Nancy E 2, and Mary A. 13 whom I believe to be a sister.

My interest in (Eli) is that he is living beside a Jacob Orange in 1860 in Washington County TN whom I believe to be the father of my gg grandfather, Peter Washington Orren who married a Nancy Hicks age 20 in 1850. Since the age difference is small enough to make me believe he is a brother instead of her father, I am attempting to find out where in NC they came from around 1840 as there are no Hickses in Washington County in 1830.

Re: Ga. Hix, Cherokee connection?

Meaky Hix b. about 1817 m. 6 Aug. 1835 Pinckney Brewster (marriage book, franklin cty, ga. 1834=1850 pp. 11) was the daughter of Josiah Hix and his wife Elizabeth Richey Hix.
Josiah died 1843, leaving a will, which is available on the Hix message board in full. He divided his estate into 12 portions, one share for each of his 11 children and 1 part for his wife, Elizabeth. He names his wife in the will, but not the children. My ancestor is John H. Hix, one of Josiah's sons.

I have names for 13 children of this family, but I do believe that the names of Nicey and Thomas may not be accurate.

The children of Josiah and Elizabeth are:
1. James,moved to La.; 2. Harvey, living in Red River, Tx. in 1847; 3. William; 4. Meakey m.6 Aug. 1835 (marr. book 1835-1850 pp 3 and 49, Franklin Cty. Ga.) Pinkney Brewster; John H. b. 21 Jul. 1819,d.24 Jan. 1897 m. Martha A. Purcell, daughter of Jacob Purcell and Mary (Polly) King Purcell;Charles S. b. ca 1820 m. 8 mar. 1849 Sarah McFarland;Martha b. ca 1917 d. 1883-4 m. 30 Oct. 1845 to Henry W. Baird; Matilda d. 1883-4 m. 9 Nov. 1845 to David Guest; Cynthia b. ca 1812 in S. C. m. 9 Sept 1847 to Matthew Flemmings; Joseph b. ca 1832 m. 1857 to Mary Stribbling; Nicey? no further info.; Thomas? no further info.

As to the Cherokee connection. My grandfather, who was a grandson of John H. Hix looked exactly like the Cherokee Indians. He and his brother Jacob were tall, rather med. dark, with brown eyes and jet black hair which did not go grey until very later in life. I cannot connect any direct ancestor to the Cherokees. I have been to Cherokee North Carolina and they have very few records prior to the rolls which were done in about 1924. They were not very helpful either--just a quick answer and a point to the library stacks. You almost would have to know a person's Cherokee name before you could assess the connection to the tribe. There has always been a family tale about the Hix family being part Indian, but I can't find it. Many of the people from this line do look like Indians, though. Let me know if you find a connection. Thank you.

Hope the little bit I gave you will help.

Very interesting, Do you know if your family has any history in Texas or Oklahoma area? My grandfather Parker E Hix had a brother named John Hix I was wondering if they may have been in the same family? Parker and Johns father's name was William but I can not identify thier mother's name and most of the people who could help have past away. Along with the information... Good luck on your search.
During the depression my father Loyd and his bother John were sent to live on the reservation with thier grandparents cherokee. But that is all stories with no documentation.
Happy hunting Lorraine.

The George Hix that lived in Iroquois County, IL in the second half of the 1800s was the son of William and Martha Hix\Hicks (lived in the same area around Milford and Stockland, IL). George married Elizabeth Six. George also had several brothers and sisters who lived in the same area including William & Lavina, James & Mary, Morgan, Liberty, Davis, Elizabeth, Sarah A..

See 1850 census for Washington, Parke County, IN. and 1860 and 1870 census for Iroquois County, IL.

There is also a biography for George Hix on the Iroquois County Genealogy web site.

Regards,
Karen
