William and Amelia with their children were living in Root, Adams, Indiana in the 1880 census with William being born in Oct 1836 in Ohio (acc. to the 1900 census). In the 1860 census there is a William Hoagland born in Ohio in abt 1836 living in Root, Adams, Indiana with his parents Isaac and Nancy Hoagland and William's sister Martha, born in Ohio abt. 1844. That would be a good place to start verifying!

Don Hoagland-- Illinois

This gentleman I am looking for I believed lived in Robinson, Illinois. He was a very close friend of my uncle--Richard "Dick" Hamilton. My uncle was a singer, he performed at many weddings and was in several community plays. I'm trying to locate him because I was told by family members that he had a recording studio and recorded several of my uncles songs. My uncle died several years ago and we do not have any recordings of him that aren't very distorted. I'm hoping that he might have some of the recordings still. My mother is dying of cancer and she has ask us to have some of my uncles songs sung at her funeral. I have tried to get the songs that I have off of cassette tape to cd but it sounds terrible. If anyone knows this person could u please have him contact me : kerman97@frontier.com

Hi Debbie,
I have been looking for a way to connect with you for awhile. I am your cousin Marji, John's sister. I have a picture of Sandy holding you as an infant. I would love to be in touch with you. I was priviledged to work with some great Hoagland genealogists, including Elizabeth Covington Hoagland who is now passed away. A lot of Hoagland information was amassed by these researchers and I continue to work with Laura [nee Hoagland] the granddaughter of Arthur "Bruce" Hoagland. She is a terrific researcher.

I realize this is an old post, but hoping that you receive it and are interested.

Marji

I believe they were Jacob W. Hoagland and Alathier Jiles/Giles/Childs/Chiles. Alathier first married Isaac L. Fowler and had another family, which my gggrandmother Malinda (m. William Carpenter) was born into. I do not believe she made the migration to Iowa and Isaac Fowler divorced her in 1850. I believe that Jacob W. Hoagland was married before Alathier also. On 25 Mar 1850, Alathier married Jacob Hoagland in Wayne Co., IN. I cannot find it now, but I did see an index entry to the marriage of Eliza Alathier Hoagland to Owen Hughes Jackson and it said her parents were Jacob W. Hoagland and mother was Alathier (some spelling of it) Jiles.

I am not a speaker of Hungarian, but from my friends and relatives I have learned that an i after a name such as Papa means "comes from the town of" or "from the area of". My friend had a grandmother with last name of Budai, or "comes from Buda". Papa is a town located in Western Hungary. My last name ends in a y, but most likely ended in an i before the family changed it when they arrived from Mogoyoros in 1905.
Bill Papay

Just started working on same and got stuck as Dirck Jansen Hoogland or Hoagland or Hooglant (Numerous spellings)could not have died in 1662 as he married Annetje (Anneken) Hansen Bergen that year. Also my direct ancestor and his Son Jan Dirkson Hoagland was born in 1966 & died May 8 1721 and his Son Jacobus Jansen Hoagland 1702-Oct.1757 and so on....
As for Jan Hoagland it looks like a dead end! The Hoaglands in America "Excerpt" that I have by Daniel Hoagland Carpenter 1889 states that four persons by the name Hoogelande immigrated to New York during the Dutch Rule. Dirck Janssen Hoogland arrived in 1657 from Maersveen Holland and that Jan may have been his brother!
Looking for more info on this; Anyone?? ephoagy@gmail.com
I just looked at the Somerset County marriage record for Maria and Henry Bennett, and it says: Maria V.D. Hoagland!! So maybe she IS Maria Van Doren! Could also be Van Derveer, or other names; her sister is named Cornelia Van Liew, and I never could see a connection! Just wanted to be accurate, but she is definitely the daughter of Lukis and Sophia (Auten) Hoagland as previously stated.

I believe she is Maria Voorhees Hoagland Bennett, daughter of Lukis Voorhees Hoagland and Sophia Auten. Lukis was the son of William Hoagland and his 2nd wife Lena Voorhees. William Hoagland and his first wife Margaret-----)are my ggggggrandparents. If I can help on any Hoagland connections, let me know--- I have a ton of research on this part of the Hoagland family in Somerset and Middlesex counties. I've been to that cemetery and have seen the grave, so don't need a photo!

Maria V Hoagland Bennett d. 2 Mar 1875 Somerset NJ

I have a bunch of ancestors buried at Cedar Grove Cemetary in Somerset, NJ. I was there in November photographing some stones and took a picture of Maria's. It says "Maria V. Hoagland" and "Wife of Henry Bennett"

I'm wondering if the V. stands for Van Doren because she's buried around a bunch of other Van Doren's. I'm also wondering what the Hoagland connection is. Maybe that's her maiden name?

I'm not sure this lady is in my line, but because I have Van Dorens in my line, because she was buried with them, and because I'm also researching a possible Hoagland connection in another part of my tree, I'm quite curious who she was. Any information would be appreciated. Also, if she is your ancestor and you want a copy of the photo I'd be happy to send it to you.

My great grandfather was George Hoagland. Pokerville was
in Dane County Wisconsin. It is now a ghost town. It
later became Blue Mounds Wisc. which is actually several
miles east of where Pokerville was. Edna's middle name
was Murle. She was my grandmother. Julia Burns was
married twice. Her maiden name was Stolsman. There is
some question as to the spelling which I have seen Stitsman,
Stetsman, Stelsmann, etc. You will find her as Julia
Hoagland in the 1860 census in Blue Mounds, Wisc. with
sons, George and Frank. She was already widowed. Her
second marriage was to Alexander Barnes (also spelled on
some documents as Burns). I have copies of both marriage
certificates, her will, and death certificate. Her first
husband was David Christopher Hoagland.
David Christopher Hoagland was born in New York. Alexander
Burns was born in Illinois.
Julia parents were Francis Stolsman and Julia Ostenberg.
(Not the Caroline Julia Ostenberg that was married to
Charles Ostenberg.) This Julia Ostenberg was a sister
to Charles Ostenberg.
I am still researching this part of the family. Have quite
a bit more information. Would love to have your email
address so we can exchange information. Verta Overturf and
my father were cousins.

Hello! I've got two portrait photos from, hmmm, the 40's or 50's of brothers, Charles HOAGLAND, and his brother David HOAGLAND. They both appear to have been born in California; their mother's maiden name was WARNER, and they were living in the central part of California at the time.

I'd be delighted to send these on to the family they belong to. They were in a box of photographs from either my Great Uncle (CROMER) or my Grandmother (HOLLIS, SPRAGUE, STOKES) - and as far as I know, there are no HOAGLANDs in our family. :)

deb

Trying to figure out if there is a connection between the families I am seeing in Hunterdon, NJ and in Virginia. I believe my ancestor is Derrick Hoagland (Hogland) from Virginia. Anyone have any information on any connection?
