Hope Hobbs Zink and my grandfather, Bernard E. Fraley, were first cousins. I have letters and maybe a picture or two, that Hope sent my mother when Hope was living in Yakima. I remember meeting your great great grandfather, John Fremont Hobbs, when I was a small boy. He was the brother of my great grandmother, Lois Ann Hobbs Fraley. If you will e-mail me I will send you some Hobbs information. reengel@oaknoll.com
Hi Elaine:

I've just started researching my family tree and came across your post. I always heard from my grandfather that we came from the 5 Hobbs brothers that came from Virginia and settled in Tipton - I even have a picture of the 5 brothers hanging in my house. I think I'm descended from James Hobbs - do you have any info on him or the brothers? I remember attending a Hobbs reunion up north once when I was 13 or 14 and it was well attended from what I remember. Any information is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Liz

A branch of my Hobbs' moved into Clay Co. IN from Shelby Co. KY bout 1833. They were Montgomery Hobbs b. 1809 and wife Nancy b. ca 1811. Their children were Sarah, William, John b. 1838, Rochester, Hinson, James, Sylvester, Shields. and Margaret, born in that order between 1832 and 1849. Montgomery had a brother John b. 1816 but he moved to IL so is not your ancestor. If you have any info on any of the ones mentioned here, please send it via Rootsweb. I do not know names of spouses of any of them, nor where they lived and died.

John, son of Henry H Hobbs and Minerva Jones was born (I think) after 1878. By 1900, Henry is dead, we think in Honey Grove, Texas, possibly in 1898. Minerva is living with her daughter Martha (married Geroge Roach). Minerva is buried outside of the town I live in, (Oklahoma)she died in 1940. I was born in 1970 so I didn't know her, my Grandma Hobbs did though. Minerva remarried to William R hicks, so she's buried under Minerva Hicks.

LESA HOBBS ULRICH

HENRY H HOBBS

Henry H Hobbs is my great-great grandfather. We know quite a bit about him but not where he died, what from, when and where he was buried. He was born in 1850 or 1851 in Kentucky. He married Minerva Jones (Later Hobbs and then after Henry's death, William Hicks.) We know where Minerva is buried, but not Henry. We think he died before 1900 in Honey Grove, Texas. No one in our family remembers what happened to him. This is driving my father crazy not to know more about him. We also know that Henry worked for the Railroad in Missouri and that is proably the reason they came to Honey Grove. Texas. Henry and Minerva had 5 children, William, Jesse, Martha, Martin Henry (our line) and John Hobbs. In the 1900 census, Minerva is living with Martha and is listed as a widow. We also would like to be able to PROVE who Henry's father was. We think it could be Martin Luther Hobbs (from Missouri) but can't PROVE it. Also we would like to know what the H in Henry H Hobbs stands for.
lesa_ulrich@yahoo.com

If anyone has any information on descendants of the Hobbs family of Co. Tipperary I would love to share.
James Hobbs (c1798-1855)married Elizabeth Angelcy c1817. I am aware of seven children - James, Mary, Sarah, Thomas, William, Henry(1818-1893) m Mary Jane Hodgins 18/11/1856 and John (1831-1895) m Elizabeth Margaret Guilfoyle c 1865 and then Ellenor Powell (1848-1915) in 25/7/1851. Two of John and Ellenor's sons, William and Robert, emigrated to Queensland, Australia about 1906. William was my grandfather.

Margaretta (Margaret) Hobbs m John Falkiner in 1839 and Jane Hobbs m Andrew Hodgins in 1845. The girls came from Terryglass and their father was John. Both of these families came to NSW, Australia in the 1840's.

I believe some of the family emigrated to Canada and possibly USA.
