Hodge From Cornwall

Looking for information on Hodge from Cornwall. WILLIAM HENRY HODGE was born in St. Austell about October 1858. He married ANNA KISSELL (KESSELL) in St. Austell around 1877. WILLIAM was a miner and spent some time in the diamond mones of Africa. Their oldest child, WILLIAM JOHN was born in Cornwall in 1879. The family went to Michigan's Upper Penninsula, where two other children were born: JOSEPH in 1881 and JAMES HENRY in 1892. Anna died in MIchigan, but William returned to Cornwall where he died about 1929. Any further information on the family and ancestors would be greatly appreciated.

-Sue

Hi Ron,
Not sure if this thread is still running, but I have three ancestors from the 11th:

William Hodge - from Barnstaple, Devon. I have his discharge papers, but also his son:
Sebastian Hodge (appears in the 1861 census in the 11th, and was probably in the 11th when he married in NSW in 1855). Have not found any records of his service though.

William's wife (Seb's mother) was Mary Gutteridge (sp?) - he married her and they had Sebastian on Zante, Mediterranean. Her father was in the 11th, but again I've not found any records of him.

Do you have anything?

cheers and thanks
matt

Hi, I'm looking for any information on Benjamin HODGE b. bet.1753-1756 in Richland Dist., SC. Married Nancy______ in 1778 in SC, and had the following daughters: Trinity, Sarah, Lottie, Lucy, Anna, & Margaret.

Trinity is my main interest; she was b. ca. 1783, married Joseph MARTIN ca. 1800. And I was told she was Cherokee. Whether part or full blooded we have no idea! Her daughter Joanna (b. 1815 SC) married a RAULERSON/ROLLISON/RAWLINSON.

Benjamin HODGE died 22 Jan. 1837 in Richland.

Does anyone have anything on these folks? Nancy's maiden name? Benjamin's ancestry?
Help!
~Kim

Ethel's sister is terminally ill, and her remaining sibling, (brother) would love to find her or her family. The last residence was Oregon/California.I have been doing genealogy for 10+ years, but I have not had any luck. Please if you have any info that may or may not be the right info, please email me. Thank you for taking time to read this. Sharon

He had previous marriage with children, but I don't know any names. He died in 1983. I am pretty sure he had three children with his first wife. I also know that he had a wife at the time he died. I think her name was Lois. He was a house painter I think.

A. or ALPHONSO HODGE, born ca 1830, md. 1853, Livingston Co. KY

Seeking DOCUMENTATION for his parentage, the county and state of his birth, the medical school he attended and the names of his brothers and sisters. Did Alphonso have a middle name or initial? Did he attend a church there that might lists his name? Did he attend school there? Did he belong to any of the fraternal organizations in the area? Did he have any brushes with the law other than the grand jury indictment brought against him by Wm. M. Gray? Does the Gray family have any information to add to Alphonso's history?

Alphonso is said to have been a brother to Dr. Peter H. Hodge of Morganfield, KY. Alphonso married "Lizzie" Elizabeth Newman in 1853 In Livingston County, KY. "Lizzie" was the daughter of Joseph Newman and Elizabeth "Betsy" Rutter.

Could Alphonso have been the illegitimate son of one of the more prominent Hodge families of either Union, Crittenden or Livingston County, KY that would later relocate to Texas in order to keep their slaves.

ALPHONSO Hodge ca1830 Livingston Co., KY, Physician in IL, disappeared in 1880

My great grandfather was Alphonso or A. Hodge. He was thought to have been born in 1830 in Livingston Co., KY.

Where would he have gone to medical school?

He was an allopath in Illinois in the 1860's, and abandoned his wife and family in 1880.

Last known whereabouts was Bowie County, TX in 1880, but family members believe he may have settled in Southern OK, Northeast TX or Arkansas.

I am interested in his ancestry as well. Supposedly his father, Dr. Peter Hodge, ca 1802 had a Scots ancestry. Alphonso's mother's name was Mary. They may have migrated to Western KY from the Carolinas.

There were two brothers, Dr. Peter H. Hodge, ca 1825 (a physician and surgeon) and John Hodge ca 1940. Also, twin sisters...I think Nancy and Ellen 1847.

Can you locate any of these people on any of the federal censuses. Also, can you recommend how to search web for 18th and 19th Century Med School Alumni.

Dr. Peter Hodge, Livingston Co. KY/early 1800's

My gggrandfather, Peter Hodge, was believed to have been born in Scotland about 1802. His wife's name was Mary ?. Supposedly, he was a physician. I believe this to be true as my cousin has his medical books or at least those of his son Alphonso. Family legend has it that Peter and all three of his sons were physicians. Family records show 2 sons, Peter H. and Alphonso, both physicians, another son, John born in 1840, and two daughters: Mary born in 1847 and Nancy Hodge born in 1847. Peter was born 12-22-1825 and Alphonso 02-01-1830. Peter married Martha S. Johnson 2-26-1845 and died January 1860 in Morganfield, Union Co., KY. He had 3 children, Mary Gip Hodge, Lena Hodge and George Peter Hodge. Alphonso married Elizabeth Newman 08-18-1853 and divorced in 1856 in Livingston County. He then migrated to Hamilton and White Counties in Illinois in the Mid 1850's. He married Rachel Jeanette Carter, and they had 8 children. Dr. Alphonso abandoned his family in September of 1881. His last known whereabouts was Bowie County, Texas. Are there any connections as to ancestry. What was Peter's wife's maiden name. Does anyone know of a family of Hodge physicians in the early and mid 1800's in KY?

Hodges / Hodge Society 2007 Genealogy Conference

A group of about 30 researchers of Hodge and Hodges families gathered in Houston in November 2006 to share information and ideas. The participants were enthusiastic about the benefits of the meeting and decided to informally organize as the "Hodges-Hodge Society" to continue their interaction and, in particular, to plan another gathering for 2007.

Since many Hodge and Hodges have roots in Virginia, the consensus was to hold this year's meeting in Richmond. The dates have been set for October 13 and 14.

For more information, including how to register, see
http://www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/h/hodges/society.htm

I'm still trying to find out if Minerva Hodge, daughter of Asa Hodge is my grgr grandmother.

I'm pretty sure this was the Minerva Hodge who married Malachi E Oliver in Tennessee in 1830.

Malachi Oliver shows up in the Shelby Co Texas 1850 Census with another wife.

Minerva Ann Oliver in 1842 married Thomas F Bryarly in Red River Co, Tex. She had two young boys, William and John.

Minerva Hodge had a brother named Silas. Minerva Ann Oliver Bryarly named her last son, Silas Wright Bryarly.

My gr grandmother, Lucy Bryarly, daughter of Minerva Ann Bryarly had a photo in her album circa de 1875 signed your cousin, Willis Hodge. Lucy Bryarly died in 1929 when I was 4 years old. We have never known any Hodge relatives in my generation or in my mother's generation.

Anybody shed any light on this mystery

Delwin Moore
221 Browning
Carthage, Tx 75633
delwin1924@sbcglobal.net

Re: Samuel HODGE

The Samuel I'm looking for Parents, are: Henry HODGE b: 1834/35 & Jane WALLACE.
Samuel b: early 1855 d: unknown maybe America.

Samuel only son of Henry & Jane, was born 1855 in Alternun, Cornwall, U.K.

Samuel emigrated to America, seemingly before the rest of his family left for New Zealand in late 1879.

Nothing today is known about him.

By 1879 he would have been in his mid 20's, and could well have had the beginnings of a family. We presumably will never know unless one of you kind people has him as a thread.

The personal papers of Elizabeth HODGE (his step-mother) which were kept at the Alton, New Zealand home of Samuel Ernest (Sam) Hodge, (step-brother) did have among them a memorial notice recording the death of Samuel, sent from America. But unfortunately around the 1930's they were lost.

Any help whatsoever on this lost sibling would be much appreciated.
