Suzie:

By way of identification, I am your father's brother's eldest son. My name is David Wilkinson Hodgkins. I have seen the family tree generated by Meghan Noel Cartwright. You have done a lot of research on this an unfortunately I am not able to add anything to it. I have only a distant memory of your father, Wilcox Howard Hodgkins, who I knew as Uncle Howard but I liked him.

For what its worth, if you are continuing this tree I was born in Chicago Illinois and not in California.

I have that John Hodgkins was born between 1654-1652 in Ipswich, MA. He was a son of William Hodgkins and Grace Dutch. I read he may have been baptised 25 Jan 1673 at Ipswich. He supposedly died 20 Jan 1690, also at Ipswich.

At some point before 1682 he married a woman named Elizabeth, surname unknown. By Elizabeth he had at least 3 children; John, Nathaniel and Sarah. Sarah was born 1 Feb 1689/90 in Ipswich. She married Timothy Keyser, son of John Keyser and Hannah Davis, about 1709/10. She may have died in Rowley, MA.

Looking for any information on John's wife Elizabeth.
Looking for death date/location for John's daughter Sarah.

Thanks.

Hello,

I'm trying to find more information on a Margaret Hodgkins who was apparently born in the States somewhere around the early 1800's, and she married a man with the last name of 'Brown'. I found her listed as the mother of Mary Jane (Brown) Mills, born in Ontario in the 1830's on Mary's death certificate from 1920. If you have any ideas here, I would love to hear from you. Thanks.

Scott

Frank A. Hodgkins of Bangor, Maine in 1876

Frank A. Hodgkins, age 23, of Bangor, Maine is listed among the dead in a train accident.

The Lake Shore and Michigan Southern Railway Train No. 5, The Pacific Express left a snowy Erie, Pennsylvania on the afternoon of December 29, 1876. As The Pacific Express plowed through the snow and crossed a bridge over the Ashtabula River, about 100 yards from the railroad station at Ashtabula, Ohio, the passengers heard a terrible cracking sound. In just seconds, the bridge fractured and the train plunged 70 feet into a watery abyss.

I am not related to this family, just passing on this information which comes from a website called "Ashtabula Bridge Disaster." The link for the site is listed below.
Joyce

http://home.alltel.net/arhf/bridge.htm
My great grandmother Nancy Higgins Hodgkins and Cecil Hodgkins had four children: Linwood, Kenneth, Maurice(my grandfather) and Cecil (We called her by her middle name Carolyn). Linwood moved to Mass. Kenneth stayed in Maine and Maurice and Carolyn came to California with their mother Nancy. (We called her grammy). They lived in Lynwood, California. My Aunt Carolyn never married. She lived with her mother (Nancy) until my grammy died. She then moved in with my grandfather (Maurice) until she died of a cerebral aneurysm. My grandfather Maurice married Yvette LaFlamme and they had five children. Nancy (my mother), Stanley, Dennis, Sandra and Michael. Does this help? Do you have information on my great grandmother Nancy? At this time, I have no information on her or her family. Thanks,

Cindy

They were from Ipswich Massachusetts before that.

Send me another post so that I don't forget to find the book and send you the information from it. Leaving on June 5 for Chicago and the National Genealogical Society Meeting.

I purchased a copy of it from a University of Wisconsin outfit that did reprints of out of print books.

My information comes from Eben Hogkgins Book "The Hodgkins Family"
My husband family goes back to Philips Hodgkins Jr and wife Hannah Robinson who were the parents of Moses and Edward. Edward's son Isaac Davis had a son Lewis Warrington for whom my husband was named. From Lewis Warrington the line goes like this: Dr. Lewis W Hodgkins; Norris Lowell Hodgkins and then my husband.

Melanie,
Found more info....

George H. Hodgkins b. 1839, Walpole, NH. m. Sarah Ann Cooke, b. 11 Mar 1848, Gilsum, NH. m. 18 Jun 1874. They had 3 children: Clara Flora Hodgkins, b. 16 mar 1876; Charles Edward Hodgkins, b. 24 oct 1880 and Fred Willard Hodgkins, b. 2 Mar 1884 all in Walpole, NH.

George H. Hodgkins is the s/o John Nelson Hodgkins, b. 20 Jun 1808 m. Emily Hall d/o Recompense and Lucretia (Farnham) Hall.

John Nelson Hodgkins is the s/o David Hodgkins b. 25 Mar 1777, d. 1825 m. 28 Jan 1799 to Patty d/o John MARCH. They had 10 children.

Note David and my Judith are brother and sister, they are the children of Aaron Hodskins b. 1741, d. April 17, 1813 m. Eunice Bixby b. 1742, d. Mar 20, 1829. That is our common ancestor.

1884 directory of Walpole shows John N. r46 (road 46 on map) with 17 acres. He is also noted in East Alstead on r26 with 120 acres.

It seems the Hodskins/Hodgkins lived very close together with their farms as they were sheep farmers which was the boom at that time.

You are also descended from the MARCH family in Walpole as I am.

If you would like more info write me at my regular email at c b t h o r n t o n @ g m a i l . c o m (there is spaces so it will appear).

Cynthia

Hi. I think I'm further back than you on my branch of the Hodgkins family.

My Hodgkins came in with a Mary Hodgkins that married a Richard Hargreaves 1891 Bradford, Yorks, Eng.

I live in the area where she, her father, and gr.f. died. John Bentley Hodgkins b.1803 and J.B.H b.1841 are buried in Undercliffe Cemetery, in the Otley Rd. Bradford area.

I know there was a family of Arnalds in this area, as I worked with one of them. If you can fill me in with what you know, I will try and help. I can do look ups, and I also have accommulated material. Joan

Hi Derek,

I saw your message on the Roots Web site, which was a long time ago I was just wounding if you found out any further information about William Hodkin as I seem too have the same problem that you had in 2000.

I also ask Derbyshire council to search their records and the only information that has been found was a William Hodkin was baptised in Old Brompton but about six years after William was born. And his Father's name was George but I think the gap is to great?

Hope you might be able to help me

Regards,
Neil

All the Hodgkins that I am aware of in Bradford seem to have the same pregenitor. My ancestor was John Bentley Hodgkins b.1803 at Braunston, Rutland, he seems to have been the first. He was a Chelsea Pensioner, having moved around in a Military Capacity. With his wife Alice, nee Healey, his children born in various places. He settled and died in Bradford, Yorks, Eng. I have decended through his son John Bentley Hodgkins b.1841 Plymouth, Devon. If you think we may connect , or if I can help with your research please contact. Joan.

Hello Ian
My grandmother was a Hodgkins, from Burntwood. I have traced back her family for a further 3 generations, to Joseph Hodgkins who married Lydia Burm in 1804.
They had one child that I know have (could be more) - Samuel, born 1817 who married Ann Smith in 1851 in Shenstone.
They had 12 children - Samuel (born 1852, married Eliza Kurk), Charles, Mary Ann, Eleanor, Joseph, Eliza, Dinah, Emma, Hannah, Thomas *, George & Henry
*Thomas (born 1868) married Hannah Upton in 1890.
They had 5 children - George, Emma, Ann, Agnes, Richard. Ann was my grandmother - she married Watson Westwood. I can trace the Westwoods back to 1700 - still living in Burntwood.
Hope some of these names ring a bell
Regards
Sue

Who were the wives of Thomas Hodgkins Jr. born 1691/2 died 30 Dec 1788 of Ipswich, MA?

Who were the wives of Thomas Hodgkins Jr. born 1691/2 died 30 Dec 1788 of Ipswich, Massachusetts? The first two wives seem to be Sarah Ayers and then Hannah Warner. Did he have a third? The NEHGS MA VR to 1850 has "HODGKINS Thomas, 3d, and Elizabeth Humphreys, int. Feb. 26, 1747" and " Thomas Hodgkins, 3d, int. Feb. 26, 1747". This Thomas and Elizabeth had five children baptized in Ipswich; Elizabeth 3 Sep 1749, Jeremiah 5 Npv 1752, Samuel 1 Aug 1756, Bethiah 31 Dec 1758, and Stephen 4 Apr 1762. Was this Elizabeth his third wife? If not who was her husband? Who were her parents? Siblings? When did she die and when was she born? Can anyone help?
David Hodgkins resident Kensington, London
I'm looking for any info. on my great great grandfather David Hodgkins. His daughter's name was Fanny, b 1866 in Kensington and there were also two brothers, George and Fred, born much later, but I have been unable to find David on census records. Fanny married Thomas James White in 1890 and had 13 children.

Many thanks

Re: Greenleaf Hodgkins

I have recently begun researching my mother-in-laws biological father (Addison Kirkland Hodgkins, born 5/5/1908 Milford, ME, died 9/9/1961 Carmel, ME). He is the son of Ernest Glenwood Hodgkins (B 2/13/1877 Maine) and FLorence B. McElroy (Born 1888 Maine). Ernest is the son of another Addison Hodgkins (B 12/14/1854) who is the son of Greenleaf (Or Agreen or Agran) Hodgkins. I am wondering how your connection works?
