Hello! When I lived in Oshkosh Wisconsin in the late 40's and early 50's my boss talked of a Billy Hoeft who was a baseball player. If I recall correctly, he was born or lived near Oshkosh, Wi.
My Hoeft family was Christian Frederick and Augusta (Hagen) Hoeftborn about 1820 and 1830. Immigrated in 1884.
Hello!
I am the great grandaughter of Christian Frederick Hoeft born in Beyersdorf, Germany in 1820, son of Martin and Dorothea Sophia (Fritz) Hoeft. I believe he had a brother Carl and perhaps Christoph, His 2nd wife was Augusta Hagen from Jardickendorf daughter of Christopher and Mary Hagen. His first wife was Justine Maasch? - He had a son Carl born
1852 at Sachow and a son Fred by his first wife Justine.
Carl came to America about 1882. His sons August and Julius came in 1881, He had a daughter Augusta who died in Germay. His daughter Emilie and son Herman came in 1883, Christian and Augusta came in 1884 with Ernst, (my grandfather) Ernestine and Frank. They settled in Tigerton Wisconsin where his son August was living. His daughter Marie and her husband Herman Hein came with their daughters in 1890.
Christian and Augusta are buried in Tigerton, Wi. His nickname was Fred or Fritz and he was very good treating animal maladies.
They came over on the Nurnberg.
I have a little more information. my e-mail is lovesaddlebreds@hotmail.com
Thank you, Elaine (Hoeft) Simon
I will try to send you the PDF file to your email address in the system. It wont let me attach it here. The other information I have about my gggrandmother I won't post that on here and could share directly with you but, what I have already mentioned is about all the significant data there is. I know that she came on a ship called the Gellert and the confusing part is that there were two ships of that name in the same general period of time. Also, the brothers were already in Chicago when she left Germany. I did find a couple of records for a Rudolph "Heft" that might be the other brother. If you have a subscription to Ancestry.com you can access a few census documents on Adolph. I think that the spelling Heoft is correct because on my great grandfather's death record, someone had noted his mother was Charlotte "Hefft" (as it would sound with "eo" in german) which after some research I ended up with the corrected "Heoft". This family ended up in Lemars, Iowa and their decendents eventually up to South Dakota, where I am.
Mike M

Adolph Heoft was a Saloon Keeper in Chicago in 1875 and located at 620 Milwaukee Ave. (Note last name spelling) My Great Great Grandmother, Charlotte "Minnie" Heoft, came to Chicago in 1865 with the Gronow family as it was reported and the record I had said she had two brothers living there, Adolph and Rudolph. Tonight I found (on Ancestry) an application for citizenship for Adoph Heoft, signed by he and his wife, Theresa in 1889. I think this is your man. He was born Jan 4, 1838 in Zawitz or Zewitz, Germany. This is most of what I have on the family but there was a record I found on LDS website that suggested the parents may be Karl Hoeft,Heoft and Tugendreich Krause but not sure of the accuracy.
Mike M

Adolph Heoft was a Saloon keeper in Chicago in 1875 and was located at 620 Milwaukee Ave. (Note the different last name spelling.) I have a record on my Great Great Grandmother, Charlotte "Minnie" Heoft, that states she came to Chicago in 1865 from Zawitz, Germany with the Gronow family and that she had two brothers living in Chicago, Adolph and Rudolph. Thats all I have on the family but tonight I located Adolph Heoft, b 1838 in Zewitz, Germany (again note spelling of the city) and found records of his application for citizenship on 6/24/1889. (all of this is on Ancestry). I think we are related here and I have been trying to get farther back on this family without much success. I have something, somewhere in my reseach that suggests that their father was Karl Hoeft,Heoft and the mother possibly Tugendriech Krause, but I am not sure of this and found it on the LDS website. The documents I found have the signatures of both Adolph and Theresa Heoft

Hoeft ancestry

I am the grandaughter of Ernst Hoeft born De. 20, 1870 who married Ida Laars in 1894. She was born Dec. 13, 1873.
Ernst was born in Strelno, Posen. His brother Frank and sister Ernestine were born there also. He had one half brother Carl born ast Sachow. (He was son of Christian and Justine Maash. Marie, Augusta were born there too but Christian had remarried after Justine died to Augusta Hagen born 3/3/1854 at Jardickendorf. She was the daughter of Christopher and Mary Hagen. . They must have moved to Neuendorf when Julius was born in 1861 and to Roerchen in 1863 where August, Emilie and Herman were born.
Christian was the son of Martin and Dorothea (nee Fritz) born at Beyersdorf.

We think Martin had a brother Carl and possibly a Christoph and Frederick. Does anyone have any Hoeft or Hoft ancestors from those areas? Christian came over in 1883 with the three youngest. The others came in 1882, 1881, 1883 and 1890.
Connection with Wisconsin Gramses

My grandfather, Julius Gramse was born 1850 in Province Posen, Prussia. He was one of 12 children of Samuel Gramse and Ernstine. 7 of the siblings came to America and settled in Minnesota. 5 stayed in Prussia/Germany. Their grandfather was Peter Gramse a school teacher and Rosina Zieske. We know that Samuel was born in Roznower Hauland, Prov. Posen, Prussia Dec. 21, 1823. Reportedly Julius' brother, Ludwig went to Wisconsin before settling in Minnesota. Ludwig and his sister Wilhelmine (Gramse) Steinke had come in 1874. My father, George Victor Reinhard Gramse was born in Cottage Grove, MN in 1890. He had 4 brothers and one sister. I have traced much info on families in Wisconsin named Gramse and know that a Reinhold Gramse b 1870 in Heide Drombrowsk which is the same tiny village that Julius' brother, Ludwig, claims as his bp. Reihold settled in Waushara Co., Wisc. Hope to hear from you and some day we might make a connection. One letter from Samuel mentions an Otelia that was then in Wisconsin. Not sure if this was Samuel's daughter or just a friend that he was writing to son Julius about.

I suppose that you have found Ernestine's obit that very often gives bp. Just where in Green County did they settle? We will be traveling to Wisc. this summer and hope to look up some of the families that I am sure that we are related to. Wisconsin has such wonderful vital records. Searching for our grandfather, Lemuel Hathaway, who disappeared in 1903, V.R. Wisconsin located his marriage record which gave his bp, parents and parents bp. I was amazed. Am not sure that we will have a chance to go to the Wisconsin records. Are you in Wisconsin?I have always been surprised that none of the children were named Ernstine as the mother was Ernstine (Fenger)Gramse. But then none of Samuel's children were named after his father, Peter. Altho traditionally first born sons are named after the father.Do you know the exact date and ship that they arrived on - did they marry in Germany/Prussia or after getting here. I suppose that Mr. Hoeft was a farmer. If you have a lot of the data written down, would appreciate a summary of it as I have gathered much on the Wisc. Gramses. Thanks! Gramses. Thanks!
Can see that you are probably at a dead end as without the village they came from there is not much more to do. I had traveled to the Posen area where my ancestors came from this last spring and visited several of their villages and graveyards. Interesting! With so many other Gramse families in Wisc. I am surprised that you have been unable to connect with them. Will keep your names with my "Gramses of Wisconsin" in my book and let you know if I ever run across any info. I do know that some of my branch of Gramses were in Wisc. and one of the gr-grandfather's letters mentions that "Otelie is in Wisc. with his brothers". Never found out who that was. This sort of thing makes it all such a challenge! Evelyn White

In my records I have a Auguste Haeft or Hoeft who married William Bork. The came to Am. in 1892 with son Carl and Sister Emilie married to August Bork and a son Otto. They were born in Pomerania, Germ. Wm. was suppose to be in the St. Paul Mn. area and August lived in Rock Co. Wi. Does any of this fit with your records. Phyllis
