Migrated from Pennsylvania to Nebraska where he entered the Union Army......first wife Louisa nee Unknown, then perhaps to the Dakota Territory, then to Arkansas and Kansas. Second wife Ellen "Ella" McWilliams.

"The following taken from the columns of the Garden City Views, dated December 29, 1898: 'One of the first stores......of the town. Dr. Hoey, who died some time ago in Oklahoma, was one of the first physicians. Dr. Dempsey was here ....."

Is this the John Hoey who was married to Margaret McClister from Ohio? Had a son Charles F. Hoey born in 1876, possibly Madeline, b. 1879 and Engracia b. 1883? John had a mattress/upholstery business in San Francisco. Will not be part of Ancestry.com much longer. Hope to receive a reply.

Jack did died in a hunting accident. It is rumored he got in a fight with a brother or a cousin who shot him. Vivian told me that many years ago.

Walter died in Carmel in 1958. My father Jack is still alive. He is a dentist in Napa. He is 70.

I will see if I can copy that picture. It is framed on the wall.

Who are you related to in the Hoey family? It is not a big clan.

I don't think so. He married my grandmother after she bacame pregnant. Bill would have been about 78 now. Walter and all his brothers were considered wild and very independent. All are fly fishermen. I have a great photo of H.P. Hoey on the McKenzie River fishing in a tie and a bowler hat dated 1917.

My father was 21 when he died. He had a bad heart. He lived in Carmel then. Aunt Vivian was the last of them to go in 1996. Ramona, died during child birth and Jack was killed in a hunting accident. This is what I have been told.

My grandmother was Cledogh M.Cook. I think he lived in Oakland in the 30's. I know he went to Oakland tech High School. They moved from San Francisco after the earthquake to Oakland. He owned a auto dealership in Eugene Oregon when my Dad was young. He died in 1958.

Mary Agnes Byrne nee Hoey was born 6/10/1898 and she married Thomas Byrne 30/01/1921 in Dublin. Think she was called Judy. Where in Dublin did they live, Think she had two girls Kathleen b-1923 and Bridget b-1924 had she any more children. Hope somebody can help.

im not 100% on this but i believe that they would have came from drogheda. very possibly a street called ship street they people that lived there were builders on d viaduct bridge in the town. im a hoey thats were my family come from my father told me stories about alot of the older generations moving to england,usa and oz after the bridge was complete. so there is a great chance there is a link between drogheda and sacramento.

I noted the given names in the first message by Wilcox Relative. I also have James, Herbert and Gertrude in my line.
My understanding of naming a new born was to name them after relatives. There maybe a connection in Ireland.
Obit for James Henry Hoey stated he was from Co. Tyrone. Unable to find any Hoeys in that county.
I corresponded with the Mass. clan about 1999 and found no direct connection at that time.

John b Ireland in 1824 became President of Adams Express, making him and other investors very wealthy during the Civil War. He built his family house/estate in Long Branch, Monmouth Co., New Jersey named Hollywood. His some Frederick Hoey became the operator/manager of the Hollywood Hotel also in Long Brnach.

I would appreciate any additional info folks might care the share about this line.

John Hoey b Ireland abt 1835 migrating to Massachusetts and on to Shasta Co., California. Married Ellen Donlan....3 known children all appear to have been born in Shasta Co. John was a miner.

Can not find a record of 1900 census for any members of the family. Henry appears in 1910 and 1920 census with wife Ida Winchell and children.

Have you ever found the location of Hoeyville and Hoeyville Plantation? I have seen references to Hoeyville Hotel and Hoeyville as a place name but I have not been able to track down the exact location.

I finally managed to track down the geographical boundaries of Hoey's Basin and the location of Hoey's Canal based on some comtemperary descriptions of this area. I at least have a proximity of where to look on some older maps if I can get my hands on them. I noticed that the NO Public Library website is down for some upgrades and will check to see if they might have some online map resources.

Clarence Charles Hoey b 1885 in Delaware

Looking for parents, siblings, wife and offspring of Clarence.

WWI draft registration Camden, NJ, b 9 Oct 1885. He is living in Camden, NJ. Mother Margaret Hoey living in a hotel in Philadelphia. Employed as Crossing Watchman for Atlantic City RR.

WWII registration Camden, NJ. b 9 Oct 1885 in Wyoming, Kent Co., Delaware. Employed by Pennsylvania and Reading Seashore Line Camden.

I find a Clarence with mother Margaret in Washington, DC in 1910 Census but cannot confirm......looks close though. I cannot find any other record of family.

I am wondering if Clarence is the son of John b abt 1854 in NJ, Clarence being the grandson of James b abt 1823 in Ireland. James and John were living in Mispillion Hundred, Kent Co., Delaware in 1870 as was a John.

About 1943: John Martin Hoey registers for the WWII draft in Tyler Co., West Virginia. He was born 21 May 1880 in Doddridge Co., West Virginia. John lives at R#2, Salem, Doddridge Co., West Virginia. Nearest relative is Holtie Hoey (no address given). He is self employed. He is 5'-7-1/2" tall and 192 lbs. He has gray eyes and gray hair and has a light complexion. Noted with "left foot off."

I have found an obscure diocese record in Lindsay, Ontario which shows Hanora Connery marrying John Pyne in 1856. Her parents were Michael Connery and Ellen Roche. His were James Pyne (deceased) and Catherine Miller. Catherine remained in Lindsay until her death. John and "Nora" moved to NY (probably illegally). It appears that more of the Pyne families moved to Michigan (spouse Hoey). The Connery children Michael, James, Charles, and Catherine (Kate)were born in Ireland. There are three children Richard, Margaret Ann, and Hannah Mary who are born in Canada. Margaret never admitted to being born in Canada because we believe illegal status, but says NY. Margaret Ann, Michael, and Mary Ellen Connery all relocate to Madison County Iowa. She married Michael McNamara born Ireland.

Hi! thanks for responding. My Rooneys in Sacramento were from Co Louth and had several connections to Hoeys. One daughter Mary married a Hoey man and settled in Roxbury MA in the 1830-40's. Another brother Patrick(1810-1872) married Bridget Hoey (1830-1904) in Ireland in 1851, then came to the US, first to AL (were another bro. Peter Rooney lived) then to California in 1853. Bridget and Patrick divorced in 1858 and later Bridget married Lysander Stoner. Her brother Peter Hoey came to Sacramento in the 1860's ? and was a neighbor and good friends with John Rooney. They had neighboring farms in Brighton (just outside of Sacramento in the late 1800's-early 1900's. I'm not sure where in Louth the Rooneys were from, but John Rooney's wife Mary Clark was from Stabannon, Co. Louth. Some of Mary Clarks family settled in Miss. and some in Washington state. ring any bells??
