Thomas and Mary Hogan Family of Indianapolis

I am looking for information on Thomas (b-abt1852) & Mary Hogan (B-abt 1845) who came to Indianapolis about 1870 and had a son Thomas L Hogan (1883) who later moved to South Bend, married (1) Hazel Craig 1903 in Indi and later my relative Martha Siderits 1936 in South Bend ......... In your research of the Hogans of Indianapolis have you run across this family ........

I too am kin to Samuel Hogan - he is father of my great grandfather Charles Hogan - however, Sudie was Charles step-mother after the passing of his mother Emma Clementine. I would be interested in talking with you.

My grandmother was Eva Matilda Hogan. She is the daughter of Johnny Andrew Hogan and Matilda Caroline Nicklos (could aldo be Nichols). Johnny is said to be Samuel Lafayette Hogan and Emma Clementine A.Downs. Well.. I do have a William Hogan in my branches which was the brother of my grandfather, But I don't know of any children that he had and he was also William H. Hogan not "P". Funny though he did have a brother named "Pony" as a nickname. I only heard this word of mouth though haven't found him in any records. The first think I checked was if there was a Jasper County in Georgia where my family is from and sure enough there was! Pretty close also to Bibb County where my folks are from. I cannot rule you out as a relative with what you've told me. I will let my Uncle in Ohio read your post and see if anything rings a bell. My grandfather had 8 or 9 brothers and sisters all from Georgia. Alfred "Pony" Hogan, William H. Hogan, Mary "Mollie" Hogan, Julia E. Hogan, Robert Hogan, Walter Hogan, Broadus Hogan (had a twin sister who died at age of 3) and my Grandfather, Lonnie Nathaniel Hogan. If your family is from Jasper County Georgia... we just may be related.

Here lies my problem. My paternal grandfather was Willie Pope Hogan. All is know is that on my dad's birth certificate it lists Willie Pope's birthplace as Jasper county. But four or five different states have a Jasper county. I have also heard that he died sometime before 1995, and at one time lived in Knoxville, Tn.

Willie Pope's marriage certificate says the last name is Hogans but then the "s" is crossed out. So, truthfully, I don't even know if my last name is Hogan or Hogans.

My paternal grandparents are Frank and Clopie French

I have truly hit the proverbial brick wall with this guy.

Wow Kim! You are the first black Hogan that's ever responded to me. Can you tell me who your parents and grandparents are on the Hogan side? Where everyone is from. I will share all I have found. I have some missing branches to my tree that I'm looking for. Please write back soon!

Pardon me but are there any black Hogans in here? My Hogans as far back as I know are from Macon Georgia. I've only been able to go back as far as my Greatgrandfather b. 1835. I believe he may have been a slave. Also if anyone has any tips on finding records dealing with slaves that have names.

Looking for “Mamie Hogan”, she married Emanuel (Emil) Rich who was b. Castroville, Medina Co., TX, on 30 Dec. 1865. Her name is the only information I have. After “Mamie Hogan” died Emil married “Pearl Chambers”, daughter of John Chambers, - again the only information I have on this second wife. Emil died May, 1918, in Travis Co., TX. He is found in the 1880 Travis Co., TX, census, age 14 living with father John B. Rich who immigrated as Jean Baptiste Rich and in the 1900 Census (as Amil) widowed, with 6 children ages 3 to 12. I assume this marriage took place in Travis County Texas after 1885. DOES ANYONE KNOW OF HER or Hogan in Travis County???

I just started myself and my great grandmothers name was Martha Hogans. I know she was from around the Mobile Alabama area and later moved to Beloit, Wisconsin area. She married my great grandfather Roger O'Brien. They had 3 children Roger Jr., Hank William (my grandfather) and Marion Frances. I do not know anything more about the Hogans and that is what I am stuck on. I know she had siblings but am at a dead end. I am trying to get certificates.

A very generous fellow researcher has provided this information to me:

Samuel Lafayette Hogan (b. 1841 in TN). Died 29 Mar 1916. Buried at Walkers Chapel Cemetery (JEFFERSON CO) AL.

Married #1 Emma Clementine A. Downs (30 Jun 1852-22 Feb 1888) Buried at Walkers Chapel Cemetery; #2 Sudie Caroline Hodges (17 Feb 1870-7 Oct 1930. Buried at Cluster Springs Cemetery, JEFFERSON CO?, AL.)

MATTIE HOGAN was the child of Samuel and Emma C. A. Downs HOGAN.

Their other children were:

Johnnie m. Callie Nicklos

Charley E. m. Merida Beasley

Henry Joseph (no other information).

There may have been other children, but that's all I have about them. Hope it helps you out a little.

Have other information regarding S. L. and some of his siblings and father.

We are definitely related. I know everyone that you are talking about. My aunt Mary live down the road from Roy and Mary. Uncle Ed and Aunt Bell was next and then Cleo and her daughter Betty Ann, then Aunt Mary's house was the last house before you turned on the dirt road that took you down into Red Bay.

The Uncle George I'm speaking of had a wife named Lucille. He had three daughters I think, Francis, Laverne and I forgot the other one's name. I will call Ed Jr. and get you some more information. If you would like to reach me; I live in Pensacola, FL.

I also had an Uncle named George from Red Bay, Florida. My grandmother, Amy Elizabeth Hogans who passed away in May 1996, had a brother named George. My Uncle George had 2 daughters and 2 sons to my knowledge. One of the daughters, Mary Alice still lives in DeFuniak I believe. Don't know the second daughters name. One of his sons name is Charles and the other one I am not sure. The second son lives somewhere in California.

My grandfather, clayton Hogans Sr. is still living and resides in Ponce DeLeon Florida. He is a triplet. The other two brothers names were Clarence and Cleroy (deceased). He had another brother, Roosevelt (deceased). My grandfather's mothers name was Nancy.

My father, Clayton Hogans, Jr. died at 1990. He served in the military for several years and retired in the Tampa area.

Maybe there is a connection here.

My father's side are Hogans from the Ponce de Leon area. His name was Andrew Churchwell Hogans. His brothers were, Flower, Mercy, Theron (Sugar Boy) Hogans; the sisters that I know of were, Mary P and Ethel Hogans. My Uncle George lived in Red Bay.
