Barzava is my 4th great grandfather. As far as I can tell, there are no written records of either his birth or his death. I have been through the records of the town clerks in windsor and woodstock VT and the ones at the Athens and Washington counties in OH. Old South, where I was yesterday, does not have birth reigsters. So far, all I have been able to find is Mary Boardman's will, a record of his marriage and several land transactions in Athens and Washington counties. I would be happy to provide copies of what I have. You are also more than welcome to register (free) for my Hoisington / Horsington website to see more information on his ancestors and descendants.

Harriette
hoisingtonweb@yahoo.com

Barzava Hoisington

Hi everyone,

I am looking for any documentation that shows that Barzava Hoisington was the son of Major Joab Hoisington. I am particularly interested in any birth records (circa 1775) that might be in Windsor, Vt's Old South Church or the town of Woodstock.

He is also named in his mother Mary Boardman/Hoisington/Smith's will. Mary married John Smith, one of Joab's Captain's sometime around 1784/85. If anyone has a copy of that, I would greatly appreciate you forwarding same!

Barzava is my 5th-Great Grandfather, and an original Buckeye (he is on the 1803 Census that allowed Ohio's admission as a State). Joab is my 6th-Great Grandfather.

Thank you in advance,
Dan

Who is Edmund West, the collector of the Ancestry.com data file named "Family Data Collection-Individual Records"? He has collected a lot of information on John Hoisington (1680-1728) and family. How reliable is it? Can Edmund West or his company be contacted? I have tried to get this information from Ancestry, without success.

My husband's grandmother was Elizabeth Jane HOISINGTON Hurt. Her father was David Hoisington, her mother Bessie Mae DAVIS Hoisington. Elizabeth was born in Kaw, Oklahoma. Not sure of the year, but would say around 1921 (thereabouts), could be as late as 1929. Her siblings were: David Jr., Jack, William, Paul, Nola Mae (Ferguson), Grace (Bleachley), Mildred, Mary & there were twins that died young. There is also one other sibling as my m-i-l couldn't remember the name, but she said her mother told her there were 12 children total. I would appreciate any information that anyone has, I know I'm not giving much info to go on, but would appreciate anything you have.

Debra Maples daughter of Jeremiah Maples (1785-1829)and Debra Thatcher (1787-1823) of Penfield, Monroe County, New York may have married Washington Hoisington and migrated with most of the Monroe County Maples to Michigan.

As I learn, I will share. I did find a roster of the first two companies of Maj. Hoisington's Rangers - Capt. Waits' Co. and Capt. Strong's Co. with a David Write, enl. Aug 18, 1776. I can do a lookup for anyone needing it. The source is ISBN 0-8063-5029-6, pp129-131, "Docs Relating to the Colonial History of the State of New York," Vol XV, State Archives, Vol. 1. The source is a letter from Joab to the President of NY's Congress, dated Sept 26, 1776.

There are notes elsewhere that indicate the records of the 3rd and 4th companies were lost. I'm pretty sure Write is my Wright though.

There is some great information about Hoisington's Rangers in the archives of this board. Does anyone have new information to share? Has anyone accessed the M246-90 (Unit Rolls) microfilm roll? Have you had better luck looking in NY resources or VT? My 4th ggf served in Maj. Hoisington's Rangers from 1776 to 1777. I've just started my research on that service but would love to collaborate with any other (Maj. Joab) Hoisington Ranger researchers.

Maria Hoisington

My g-grandmother was Maria Hoisington. Her parents were James and Clarissa Hoisington. She was raised by a stepfather Amos Hoisington and her mother Clarissa. Her death record from Green Co., WI names James as her father. She was 72yrs,8mos of age when she died 20-FEB-1904. I think that makes her born abt. 1830
