Maybe worth looking into history surrounding the HOLL family who lived (and left) the town KIRCHBERG (Switzerland). To me it sounds as if decent from close (if not same) forefathers than mine. Also see some of my own investigation results at:
http://wc.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=REG&db=:587292...

I am a descendent of Wendel Holl, one of the origianl 3 brothers who crossed the Atlantic. Wendel settled in Earl twp and married Mary Witwer (not Witner). The Lancaster Mennonite Historical Society published an article on the Witwer family in the late 90's, early 00's. And it includes the Holls. Mary's father was Hans/Johannes. Mother unknown. Wendel and Mary had the children listed earlier and Jacob. I come from their daughter Anna, who married David Landis. I have yet to trace the Holls back to the country of origin or to go bck before 1700. But thought I'd give the information I have. If anyone would like to know when the articles on the Witwer family were published exactly, reply to this message of contact the society. Either way, your inquiry will be answered.

Holl families of East Prussia and Salzburg

My ancestors are Gottlieb Holl and his wife Anna Selmikat (Selminkat) who resided in East Prussia. This Holl family were descendants of the Holl's who left Salzburg, Austria around 1732 and went to East Prussia. They were called the Salzburger's. A search using the word Salzburger's will bring up several websites pertaining to their history. They had to leave that area due to religious persecution. Gottlieb and Anna had a daughter, Christina Holl, who was married to Jakob Heidrich in East Prussia. They had children: Joseph, Otto, George, and Christina (Ernestina) that we know of. Joseph married Wilhelmine Krause: Otto married Anna Stein; George married Stein; and Christina married to Joseph Hoppe. All except George ended up in Wisconsin at the beginning of the 20th century. George was in Detroit by 1930.
If anyone has any information on the Holl family from these areas please do let me know. We have been going through church records from Kaunas, Virbalis, in present day Lithuania. This area south of Kaunas and west of Vilnius is where all the families resided. They were German Lutherans.g

Julie,

There were several Wendall's in the family during the 1700's. You appear to have mixed information between 2 of them.

The senior Wendall was one of the oringal 4 brothers, 3 of which arrived on the "Charming Nancy" in 1737. He was born around 1716 and died in 1773. He married Mary Witner (born about 1720, died in 1802). That had the children you mentioned plus Jacob. The Wendall born on July 8, 1747 was the son of Johnnas (John) one of the other brothers. I have much more information if you desire, please contact me direct.

Jim
My wife's gg-grandfather was August Holl, born 1856 in Germany. He arrived in the U.S. on Nov. 3, 1880 aboard the S.S. Allemania debarking from Hamburg, and listed Prussia as his last place of residence. August married Wilhelmina Gutendorf in 1881 in Cleveland, OH, and they had 2 sons, Herman and Charles. August was naturalized in 1885 and died in 1916. Can anyone help us find August's parents, siblings and place of birth?

He was born in Wales but most of his family came from Shropshire. I have got back to about 1710. Could this be part of your Holl family?
Julia

A GENEALOGY RESEARCH TOOL THAT WORKS

It's amazing the number of HOLL researchers that visit this message board; who are missing a wonderful opportunity to solve some of the brick walls that probably exist in their family history.

DNA testing is a powerful tool to be used in conjunction with Family History research. Conventional research and DNA testing are collaborating to identify "lost" families, and to connect HOLL descendants who have been separated from their HOLL patriarchs.

Records have been lost and with them a history gone forever; caused by fires, floods, lack of story telling, and man-made disasters. But, in every living direct-line HOLL male is the Y-DNA that has passed unbroken from generation to generation. This is a record that gives the identity of each HOLL family line.

A DNA test is such an easy solution to brick walls, unknowns, and "who are we?" A DNA Test is easy; sure, it cost money; but so does the time and money you're probably doing now with conventional genealogical research. It's private; it's done in the privacy of your home and NO Needles! It's as simple as swabbing the inside of your mouth with a tiny brush.

Why not convince and encourage someone as to how important their contribution is to the Hull (variant spellings) Surname DNA Study, and what it can do to help others who are in searching to learn more about their family roots. An offer to subsidize the cost might be a way to get their attention. This could include other family members interested in genealogy contributing to the cost.

Before you say no, why not at least take the time to see what this new genealogical tool is all about? Maybe think about sponsoring a HOLL male for the project. Just say YES and go for the DNA test? You have everything to gain and nothing to lose.

http://www.hullsurnamednastudy.com
