On the off chance you may be able to help me find my paternal great grandfather Hollandsworth. Family tradition and one reference in his daughters Obit, list him as Robert Hollandsworth who either married or at least, conceived children with Elizabeth Brown, aka's Sarah Elizabeth or Lizzie.

My grandfather, James Lawrence Hollandsworth was born in 1888, but had an older sister who was born in 1884 in either Nebraska or Illinois.

Up until this point I have been unable to find any data whatsoever, about a Robert Hollandsworth fitting any of the history mentioned in the foregoing, so I wonder if you might have something I can use?

bmh bobmilhar@cox.net

Have searched for sometime now for any information re my great-grandfather, allegedly named Robert Hollandsworth; however, other than a reference in my great-aunts obit, and family tradition, there’s no documentation whatsoever of this particular Robert Hollandsworth. My great-grandmothers name was Elizabeth (Lizzie) Brown, possible aka of Sarah Elizabeth Brown b: 1863, Indiana or Illinois d: 1944, Payette, Idaho. Found one marriage record listing Sarah's husband as Martin G. Hollandsworth, but no Robert. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

bmh

I do not know much about my mothers side of the family. My mothers father is absent from our lives 90% of the time and does not have too much information to help us with. My mothers maiden name was Hollandsworth. Her fathers name is Robert Hollandsworth. With some help my mother has found some of her family but one person who could have quiet a bit of information just recently came into alot of money and will not talk with anyone. Understanible considering his concern may be about "long lost relatives" wanting his money. It would be nice to have some family history. I am working on my own family history right now on this very website and was searching for information on "Hollandsworth". If you have any information that could help me, would you be willing to share that information? Thank you for you time!

My Great Grandfather was named Robert Hollandsworth and reportedly hailed from Vergina, early to mid 1800's, but apparently migrated to Nebraska and then to Payette, Idaho, USA, sometime thereafter. He was married at least once to Sarah Elizabeth Brown, both apparently died in or around Payette.

Is it possible your William, is an ancestor of my Great Grandfather?

Please Advise, if you have information that would be useful to me, or just to confirm you’ve gotten this message..

TKS

bmh

Re: Hollandsworth's of TX, TENN and ALA.

What kind of information do you have on this family? My grandfather was John Henry Hollandsworth of around McMinnville Tn. His oldest brother was James (Jim) Hollandsworth, who moved to Tx.

After my grandmother's death, the family sorted through things and a picture was found of your father and uncle when. Your grandmother was in the picture also. They were at the gravesite of your grandfather...assuming I have the generations you spoke of correct.

I made a copy of the letter attached and the picture then sent it to Jimmie Hollandsworth of Celina Tx a few years ago. If you would like to see them, contact him.

If you would like to know...Jim's father was named, Obediah(b. 1852), and he was married (m. 1-3-1874) to Martha "Allice" Smith(b. 1859). Obie's parents were....James Hollandsworth(b. 1822) and Elizabeth (b.1826). Sorry that I dont have Elizabeth's maiden name or their marriage date.

James' parents were ... Peter Hollandsworth (b. 1793) who married (m. 3-22-1821) Mary Miller (b. 1791). Mary also went by Polly. Peter's father was James but there were several families in the area at the time so I am trying to who when where at this time.

These families originated in Henry County Va then settled in Tn. Obie and Johnnie (my grandfather) moved to northern Alabama after the death of Allice. They followed Sallie Hollandsworth (d/o Obie) and Charles (s/o Obie) who had already moved there.

Jim was already living in Texas at the time. If my dad was correct with his memory, another brother and sister followed Jim to Texas however I havent been able to locate either.

One interesting thing about this line is that for the last generations, the men have died between the ages of 55 and 64 of sudden death heart attacks..at least on my side of the tree.

If you or anyone else can add to this tree, I would be more than happy to hear from you.

THanks...Barbara

Frank Hollandsworth had more children than I thought. He also had Amanda ("Mindy"), Marie, and Charlie besides the ones previously listed. A couple of the children died early in age.

Clarence (my bio-dad) was married in Oct. 1946, to Lillian (no single last name available). I was born to Clarence and Mary Miracle on Dec. 6, 1946. Lillian passed in Nov. 1993. Clarence lived until Dec. 26,1997, when he passed away from lung cancer. At the time of his death he had only been remarried nine months to Betty King Clemons Hollandsworth.

Clarence went on to have other children with Lillian - Janet, Susan, Deborah, Greg, and James.

Kent, It is not unusual to find the name spelled differently. Most of these spellings were at the mercy of clerks who used phonetics more than actual spelling and if the person was not literate it gave opportunity for various spellings. I do not have anything on Barton Jr. However the name you suggested was a brother to Barton Jr. Barton Sr. is my line also, through Nathaniel. I have had a very diffcult time finding Barton connected to the war. I have notice that a Civil War record of WL Hollansworth is spelled without the "d". What type of pistol is it? Army or Navy issue? Although cannot imagine ir being Navy.

Wow, that is some confusion no doubt. Well here is what I can tell you from my very meager findings.
First, in 1975 my great aunt Mary, one of Barton's granddaughters gave me the following list of his children from memory .
Saul
Auther
Nathaniel
Pete
Frank
Patty (nicknamed Puch)
Becky(nicknamed Roxie, later found in Vancouver BC)

From different records, I have seen the following about Barton's children:
Saul b. abt 1872 marr. 13th Feb 1895 Geo E Cutlip
Auther marr. Laura Ferrell 5 children (Aunt Mary's memory)
Nathaniel marr. Ellen Cutlip 9 children (one my line)
Simon Peter b 30 Sept 1871 d. 12 Apr 1940 marr Geo E Cutlip b 28 Jul 1872 10 children; or maby some Sauls? Did Saul die? Where? When? This came out of a Bible if I remember correctly. Every birth date and death date listed very neat and orderly.
Benj. Frank marr Sabina Nicholas
Patty
Becky b. abt 1864 (also seen as Rebecca Ann) marr John Cochran 9 Nov 1881 moved west, family now in BC
Caroline "M" b 10 Oct 1858
No name b Sept 1860 on Smith River in Henry Co.
Nancy E b 24 Oct 1862 mother listed as Nancy
Mary E b 24 Oct 1862 mother listed as Margaret E
Female b. 10 June 1865 to Mary and Barton

An M. E. Hollandsworth b abt 1863 marr Geoge B Cochran 25 Jan 1882 (this could be Mary E listed above)

1860 Henry Census listed in Barton household
Brice age 6
Ann age 3
Cora age 1

The family was very big on nicknames and the nicknames stuck. For example Roxie's decendants in BC had no idea her real name was Becky or Rebecca. We only had a personal memory of Aunt Mary she was called Roxie. But we matched on marriage, husband and her children were all named after the family, including one "Dale", Barton, and Fountain, names you could not just find in any family.

Someday, I would like to sort this out. But in the meantime, I will just add the above confusion.

Dirk, That certainly makes more sense of Kent's info than I have seen before. Great information. Do you think Nat's, Sols, and Art's father was named Authur Barton also? I have never seen Authur as his first name. But as I said the nicknames...or in this case the middle name might have been the only one recorded in many of the records.
Also I have seen the initial "R" associated with Authur, Dirk, do you think this was misprinted or poor handwritting that was misinterpreted?
How many children of Mary and Barton have you found that would be considered accurate. Do you think Brice, Cora and Ann were names of their children? Franklin B could be Brice or Benj Frank could be the same person? I have seen both of those names.
Kent, this certainly seems to answer many of your question.

I am trying to locate information on the children of Susannah Hollandsworth, daughter of Thomas Hollandsworth and Susannah Mayze (Mays). She married William Jackson Keaton (Keeton) May 14, 1807 in Patrick Co. VA. Susannah and William Jackson moved from VA to TN where they had their family. I have some of her children as Susan, Thomas, Robert, Frances, William, John O. and Sarah. I am trying to place Soloman Keaton who I believe to be her son. Any help would be very appreciated!
