My g-g-g-g grandfather Sherwood Holley is alleged (not confirmed) to have come over from Ireland in the 1700s to Nova Scotia. He worked his way south and his wife Millender ??? gave birth to who we believe is John Holley, b. 1792, in South Carolina. This is family oral history and is not backed up by most researchers. Most researchers believe that the John Holley, b. 1792, was the son of William Holley.
Curiously enough, although Holley sounds like an Irish name, there are few if any descendants in Ireland with the name of Holley, Holly, Holy, or a like name.
Sincerely,
John Burnum
