They are an elusive breed. My Hollies/Hollys/Holleys have been hard to trace. My grandfather, Drolo/Drowloe is first
found in Carroll County when he tried to marry at the ripe old age of 16. There was a note from Major Brown (who I believe was his grandmother's second husband) that said he could not marry because he was too young. The next time I find Drolo is when he married my grandmother, Nancy Lucinda Stone, in Carroll County, MS. I haven't been able to find him as a child on any census, nor can I find his mother, Loucretia (maiden name believed to be Carter, but undocumented) on any census as the wife of a Hollie/Holly/Holley. Verbal info says her husband was a John Holly. We do know that she
married an H. C. Hawkins. She had a daughter, Viola, and
another child, Valentine, who didn't live beyond infancy (don't know for sure if it was male or female). We think Loucretia's mother was Frances Carter and that she married Major Brown after her first husband, died, but we don't know for sure what the first husband's name was.
As you can see there are a lot of blanks to fill in. I am only able to do genealogy occasionally, as I work full time.
Hope your search is going better than this one.
Since John is so common, anything is possible. My grandfather was born in 1878. He died in 1934 in Tunica County, MS. His wife, Nancy, was born in 1882 and died in 1972 in Tunica Co., MS. My dad is Truman Columbus Hollie.
He was born in 1919 in Tunica Co., MS. and will be 86 in July.
His father and mother never talked much about their respective families and it has been hard to trace them.
Look forward to hearing from you.
Take your time. I only get to do this part time. Right now I have a close relative who may be very close to death, so I will be at the hospital off and on.
My family has been hiding this long, I can wait a little while longer.
I appreciate the help. My family worked in logging in Mississippi, Arkansas and Tennessee. My grandfather cut the trees and his brother-in-law was what they probably called a spotter or marker. He marked the trees to be cut. Sometime around 1915 he went to work for the county driving a road grader, keeping the gravel roads graded. He also farmed and who knows what else. His wife, Nancy Stone, was related to the Barrentines and Stones in and around Montgomery County, MS.
What part of MS did you family live before moving to Alabama?
Be careful on the road. Look forward to hearing more when you have the time.

I'm an Hollie from Oklahoma and you are right there aren't very many of us. I am also trying to find out more about my family before it is too late. My late grandfather was Charles Hollie. His mother name was Ida. We just called her "Moma Hollie". My great grandfather died before I was born and I can't recall anyone ever mentioning him. Grandpa Charles and my grandmother Gladys have had 6 children, 12 grandchildren, and 16 great grandchildren to date.

Children of Charles and Gladys are:
Ronnie
Linda
Gary
Sharon
Terry
Sue

Their old homeplace is located in LeFlore County Oklahoma. If anyone knows anything about my family....please let me know.
Terrie

HOLLIE/HOLLY/HOLLEY

My grandfather was Drolo R. Hollie born May 3, 1878 in either MS or AL. His mother was Loucretia (maiden name may have been Carter) born Jan. 1849. I want to know who his father was and where and when he and Loucretia married as well as when he died and where he is buried. I would also like to know for sure what Loucretia's maiden name was. Drolo married Nancy Lucinda Stone on October 28, 1897 in Vaiden, Carroll Co., MS. Loucretia's second husband was H.C. Hawkins. They were married Octoer 31, 1889 in Carroll Co., MS. Would like information on H.C. Hawkins. He is a mystery. He and Loucretia had two daughters Viola and Vallentine. Any help appreciated.

HOLLY/HOLLIE/HOLLEY

I'm afraid that is all I have. I have found the last name spelled all three ways on census and marriage records. On all my father's records (his name is Truman Columbus Hollie) it is spelled Hollie. We have a cousin, George Holley, who spells it differently. He is definitely a cousin. He was called Pegleg, because he lost a leg in a boiler accident. His wife, Bonnie, lives outside Hattiesburg. I wish I could give you more, but Grandpa Drolo is very elusive. The first reference I find to him is when he married my grandmother. Thanks for any help or leads you can give.
