I have posted a Hollinger DNA results page showing how the descendants of Heini Hollinger b. 1446 relate through DNA.

This is a real pretty pedigree. All of the related tests match 100% with a Most Recent Common Ancestor as Jacob Hollinger Birth: 17 Oct 1661.

It doesn't get much better than this.

If you have comments, please contact me.
Scott Norton
snorton@nortonfamily.net

Hi everyone. I am researching a line of Hollingers that are as follows.

Joseph s. Hollinger, born in Franklin county, Penn, august 27th, 1829 and educated in that state. Later moved to Charlstown west va (1871), where he learned agriculture, specifically wheat, then moved in about 1873 to liberty township and got land, about 3000 acres, in section 27,Liberty township, Dickenson County,(Chapman,KS). Married in Franklin County Penn, Feb 14th, 1852 to Miss Annie M. Miller who was also born in Franklin county in 1830. They had eight children and both are beleived to be buried in Rinehart cemetary, Chapman, KS. I have more info and names and dates to anyone who is interested. Would greatly appreciate any info anyone else has on this family.

Please email Carolyn at wrmissy2003@yahoo.com

Thanks so much!

John Hollinger obit May 2005

Paper: Desert Sun, The (Palm Springs, CA)
Deceased: John Hollinger: Community mourns passing of city father
Date: May 7, 2005

By Darrell Smith

Think of the hiking and horse trails that wind through the hills and mountains that overlook Palm Springs.

Think of the police department's mounted patrol and the lives the unit has saved over the decades.

Think of the city's youth center and the Boys & Girls Club, the city's parks and its youth baseball program, the things and the places that kept kids busy, gave them somewhere to have fun at a time when there just wasn't a whole heck of a lot to do here.

Think of all these things and more, then thank John Hollinger.

Hollinger, of Palm Springs, died April 14 at 82, leaving behind his wife, Edna, and his three grown children.

He also left, in his 60 years here in Palm Springs, his footprint on so many things that made this city what it was and, in a way, still is.

A city's father

He was a contractor by trade, but talk to his children, to the people who knew and worked with him, and they will tell you he was much more.

They'll tell you about the love he had for this city, that he was tenacious in getting things done, how his handshake and his word were gold, always.

"He's really one of the fathers of Palm Springs. He had an influence on a lot of things in the community. He had a significant impact on the community of Palm Springs," said Lee Weigel, the city's former police chief, who knew Hollinger for some 50 years. "John's love of the city showed in everything he did. There's a lot of activists out there, but there aren't a lot of people who love their city and had an impact on the place they lived."

The partial resume reads thus: founder of the Palm Springs Mounted Police; board president of Palm Springs Youth Center; member of the city's parks commission; founder of the Palm Springs Little League Association; developer of the city's trails system; and on and on.

'A midcentury pioneer'

He was, in his son Andy's words, "a midcentury pioneer," a term that makes sense only in a place like Palm Springs, where history, such as it is here, is measured more in years than in decades.

"His concern for the youth of our community; what he contributed to the community," said Andy Hollinger, a longtime teacher and coach at Palm Springs High School. "Having three sons of his own, he wanted to make sure there were good, healthy activities that would have a positive influence on youth."

Andy talked more about his father, about what he meant to Palm Springs and the city's children.

Then he talked about who he was as a father and faltered, his emotions sneaking up and surprising him.

"It's a little tough to talk about. He was a great dad. He was a concerned father who had pride in his family and sons," Andy Hollinger said.

Then Andy turned again to the city that became a second family. "He wanted to help beautify the community. He wanted to make sure there were things for everyone to enjoy."
Re: joseph william hollinger

I believe there is only one Joseph and Magdelena Hollinger. I believe there are errors on the censuses. The information I have is documented in the family bible that was left to my grandparents be Magdelena. According to the family bible the children of Joseph and Magdelena are listed as follows: 1.Joseph William Hollinger b. Nov. 17,1856 2.Matilda Geneva Hollinger b. Feb. 8, 1858 3.Charles Frank Kefer Hollinger b. Sept. 10, 1860 4.Edward Emanuel Hollinger b. May 24, 1865 5.Elmer Alexander Hollinger b. Feb. 26, 1867 6.Mary Drucilla Hollinger b. Aug. 5, 1870 7.Samuel Lowell Hollinger b. Jan. 31, 1874 (Samuel is my grandfather.) All were born in Cincinnati, Ohio. Street addresses are also written in the family bible-let me know if you want them. Joseph was a carpenter and was in the civil war. The 1875 cencus of Doniphan County, Kansas has them listed living there. According to civil war pension that was filed by Magdalena, Joseph died about 1892. It looks as though he possibly died in Vinita, Indian Territory, Oklahoma. Magdalena was listed on the Iowa 1895 census as head of household in Pottawattamie county, Iowa. She died July 4, 1916 at Sloan, Woodbury county, Iowa at the home of my grandparents. She is buried in Fairview Cemetary at Persia, Iowa beside two of Matilda's sons. I have more information on the marriages and the children of the families. Magdelena had a sister named Jenevieve who married a Charles W. Hollinger-I haven't been able to make a connection between Charles and Joseph. I also located an Alexander Hollinger in Cincinnati, Ohio-Haven't been able to make a connection on him. Charles, Joseph and Alexander were all carpenters and Joseph and Alexander both lived in Ward 17 in Cincinnati, Ohio according to the 1870 federal census. Charles had relocated to Newton, Ill. where Joseph and Magdalena were married. Alexander's address that was listed in the Cincinnati directory. The same address appears in the family bible as the birth place of some of the children.?

I have census info from 1870 that states the children of the two were William 13,Matilda 12,Frank 9, Edwin 5, and Ellen 3. Could it be that there were two couples that had the names Joseph and Magdelena born at the same time. You would know better than I as I am going by Computer info alone. ( I have no documentation). ALso I am the gr grandson of a Joseph Hollinger that lived from 1883-1955. He was my Grandma Hazel's father. Any more info you have would help alot. Thanks for the communcation thus far.

seanbirchard
There appears to be a Civil War Pension filed on him by Magdaline Hollinger. Do you have a copy of same? It may tell where he was born and it may not also.
It appears to be filed in IT? about 1892.
Hollingers from Laufenburg Switzerland

My Hollinger ancestor ( my great grandfather) came over from Laufenburg, Switzerland about 1891. His parents were named Johann Hollinger and MAria Stolz. The Hollinger name has Swiss citizenship in Laufenburg starting in 1874 ( which is after my great grandfather was born ) and they may have lived in another part of canton Aargau before LAufenburg. I am looking for any information about the Hollingers in Laufenburg. There were two brothers, Armin and Joseph, who came to the USA ( MAnhattan) between 1887 and 1891, then a nephew, Alfred, who came over around 1923.
Thank you
Elizabeth Hollinger who md. George Hoffman: who is he?

I am doing a database, hoping to find parents for my Catherine Hoffman (b. ca 1758) who md. David Hoffman - he had apptd. Samuel Hollinger as his administrator and when Samuel died, his son Jacob S. took over. I now have information on this Hollinger family but could still see no connection between them,in Adams Co., and David Hoffman in York.

And now: in the "Burgard Hollinger Families" on Page -C- I find an Elizabeth Hollinger b. ca 1800 to Jacob Hollinger and Elizabeth Trimmer. This Elizabeth married George Hoffman: who is he? Who were his parents???? This book says that she also md. David Peters... I need to track down all of the Hollinger/Hoffman connections can find.

Catharina Hollinger born 1760 to Christian and Eva, Lancaster co. PA

In "Pennsylvania Births Lancaster County, 1723-1777" by John T. Humphrey which I looked at some years ago, I have, on p 157 under "Hollinger", a Catharina born 7 Aug 1760 to Christian and Eva (23) which I assume refers to source 23: Records of the White Oak Lutheran Reformed Churches, Penn Twp... Since I am still trying to find parents for my Catharine born (using info I have found but not sure of) 12 July 1758 I am trying every Hollinger family who had a dau of that name born around this time period. Does anyone know anything about this Catharina born 1760 - who did she marry?

I don't know that I do connect to this Catharine/Catharina which is why I wondered who she married. If she did not marry a David Hoffman, then that is another one I can forget about. I have posted countless queries over the years and exchanged information with so many people and I still have not found the parents of my Catherine. No one seems to have her as part of their families. I have a huge folder of Hollinger ancestries and she fits no place. In fact, I think years ago you and I may have worked together on this back when you were just beginning to get a Hollinger database together? I remember a Marie... Mine is that Catharine Hollinger born about 1758 (going by her death date on tombstone which could or could not be correct, so I am allowing for that in my searching) and who died 13 Dec 1850 in Franklin Twp., York, PA. She married David Hoffman. This search has been going on for just about as long as I have been researching - a whole lotta years now.
