Hi Bernice, thank you so much for your reply. Lots of info in your comment i already have. But still, thanks a lot. The place of birth for LTH was from the 1900 US census. It gives LTH as being in Ga. and he gives his mothers' and fathers' birthplace as Ga. I did learn the name of his first wife and this lead me to another family tree where i discovered her maiden name. I knew he had been married earlier in life but never knew to whom. You don't get much off the WW1 Draft Reg Card. But i was surprised to learn that LTH was fireman for the City of Montgomery. I never knew this about him. He lated worked for the old Southern RR (now CSX) for many years. I am considering contacting them to see if they have any info about previous employees. This is probably a long shot but nothing ventured, nothing gained. LTH is a hard one, mother always told me that not a lot was known about him and his family. He did have sister named Lola Thomas that lived near Macon. Mother remembers visiting them when she young child (about 7 or 8). Mother was born in 1917 and she is still living. Except for memory problems, She is doing just fine in an assisted living. Again, thank you for the help. I will review you info again later to be sure i didn't miss something.

George

I can see your problem. The family doesn't appear to be on the 1910 census either.

You might want to look at the WWI draft card again.
Thank you for your reply. I'm beginning to think you could be right. I haven't given up hope just yet. However, I don't believe the family was out of the state (Georgia) in 1880. According to LTH his father was also born in Georgia. LTH would have been only about 6 years old in 1880. I will broaden my search area in Georgia. I've using USGENWEB for Georgia and have found a couple of Luthers' there. I'm beginning to think all Hollingsworths came from Georgia. There was large family of them down in Newton but so far I haven't made any connection with them. I have also ruled out the Hollingsworth family with Leonidas and Edgar (in Macon) but they could have cousins. Thanks again for your help. If you run across any Luthers' that might fit in let me know. George

Is it possible that Luther and his family were living elsewhere besides Bibb County in 1880?
There are 2 Luther Hollingsworths that I have spotted in the 1880 Georgia Census, one in Rockdale County and one in DeKalb County. I don't think they are your grandfather, but there could be others.
Doug Hollingsworth

L T Hollingsworth was my maternal grandfather. My mother is now elderly and is of little help to me. I was 27 when he died, so as a much younger person, I do have a good deal of memories of him. He had a sister named Lola who married a Thomas in Georgia. He was nearly 90 when he died in Alabama. According to his 1917-18 WWI Draft Reg. at age 43, he was born in Georgia on Dec 28, 1874. Also, according to the 1900 US Census his mother and father were both born in Georgia. I am assuming he lived in Georgia (Warrior Dist, Bibb Co.) w/Amanda V in the late 1890’s and early 1900’s. Amanda died in 1905. They had two children, a boy (name unk) and a girl (named Wyolene). Anyway, he later made it to Alabama, remarried had three more children (one being my mother). He lived out the rest of his life there.

Apparently, his family was missed in the 1880 US census because, there is no record of his family recorded there. Unfortunately, there is no 1890 US census. So, I have come up against a dead-end on L T H. I am certain they lived in Georgia. Any additional info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
I have much of that family. Most of the info I am confident about whuile some is hopeful speculation. One of my best resources is a compilation of the records of a Lutheran church in Page. Check this out and let me know if you have any corections or additions. Much of this family migrated to Vermillion and Vigo counties Indiana.

http://awt.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=john-h...

John Hollingsworth
San Antonio, TX

This gets a little complicated.
Although I am not a relative of yours, I have worked on your Hollingsworth ancestor for many years.
In 2000, Blanche Huff, who was a cousin of yours, was trying to tidy up her family records, sought my help in trying to locate Billy Lester Hollingsworth, son of Cllyde. I didn't have much luck, and after Blanche died, I didn't give the matter much more consideration.
Earlier this summer Betty Jenner saw my postings to Blanche. She had known Clyde in Florida, and wondered what happened to him.
I was able to find some records on Clyde, and shared them with Betty.
If you have any information on Clyde after he got back to California from Florida, I think that Betty would welcome it.
And if you have any information about your mother and her brothers and sisters, I would be interested.
Doug Hollingsworth

Frankly, that is a connection that I had never thought of, but it makes a lot of sense.
Standard mentions of this family lists the 6 children of Jesse Hollingsworth of Mary Powell as Benjamin P., Reese J., Charles D., Thomas, William P.; and Mary.
Children are then listed for the other four sons, but not Charles D.
I guess I had assumed that this Charles D died young, but it would apply equally well if he left his family and moved to Arkansas.
Jesse's household lists 5 sons and 1 daughter in the 1830 Census, which would seem to indicate that Charles was still alive as late as 1830.
One problem--Jesse and his family were living in New Castle County, DE in 1820 and 1830, but that is adjacent to Chester County, PA, so it is possible that they moved across the state line some time after Charles was born.
Doug Hollingsworth

Someone was asking several months ago about Clyde Lester Hollingsworth in FL...I just responded that Clyde lived with me for a few months, prior to moving back to Sacramento for his final days, and I was telling them what I knew about him! I don't know what connection the other person has to him, though.

I wasn't sure if they actually meant your Clyde, as there was also another Clyde Hollingsworth in Arcadia, FL as well...but, your Clyde said there was no relation...I didn't know that Clyde's middle name either!

How is Bertie? Hope all is well with her. I lost her address when I lost everything during hurricane Charley in 2004, and I didn't know how to contact her! She sent me the Obit memorial for Clyde, and it really meant a lot to me!

Jane, I thought that was you; my personal email is phyllissh@bellsouth.net. I agree, it would be nice to be closer.

About a decade ago John, Charlotte, and I attended two or three Descendants of Valentine Hollingsworth Reunions. One of which was in the Newark, Delaware, area, and the other(s) in Winchester, Virginia, where I believe Abraham settled. I think I have some of the information I picked up in my files, which I've been going through recently and reorganizing. Nothing to add to Charles D., but maybe some other information on prior to Charles D. Wish someone could find the link.

Hi - I have Jacob Watts (married to Permelia "Millie" Hollingsworth) in my HOLLINGSWORTH data, as the son of Jacob Watts (b. 1755 in Surry County, North Carolina, died 1850 in South Carolina) and his wife Elizabeth (last name unknown). My source was "Our Southern Family Heritage: Central Alabama Families: Hollingsworth Family", but I apologize that for some reason the author's name did not get added to the source name. Permelia "Millie" Hollingsworth was the daughter of Isaac and Mary (LNU) Hollingsworth.

Doug,

Looking at some of your old posts. I see that you have been corresponding with Chaz(oakesc)about DNA tests from a descendant of Frank Hollingsworth. So that is being worked.

Based upon some of her posts, I think, we are second cousins, her mother Gena is my first cousin, her grandfather, the late Edward Dunson was my uncle.

So there you go, you never know who you might find on ancestry.com.

Doug,

All I know is that Mary J. Hollingsworth is my GGGGrandmother, who is the mother of Frank Hollingsworth, the father of my Grandmother Bessie(Hollingsworth)Dunson.

I am told that Levi Hollingsworth was a slave owner in Heard County, Ga. And owned at least two female slaves, one of them was Mary J, who got her surname from him. Levi Hollingsworth also, fathered many children by the two female slaves he owned.

One of them for sure was Frank Hollingsworth, who was my Grandmother's father. The other names are children of Levi's also.

All of them are listed on various censuses as either, mulatto, white or black at some time. That tells me, some of them were light enough to pass as white from time to time.

Now on the date:

Mar 10th 1881, the 2nd Sabbath in March. I have no ideal what the importance of it is. It was just the date written on the first page of that 1870's bible. I believe Mary passed it down to her son Frank and he passed it on to his daughter, my Grandmother, Bessie Hollingsworth.

I posted this information to let people know that there are a lot of black Hollingsworth's out there, but no one really likes to talk about them. Yes there are black Hollingsworth who are related to the Valentine Hollingsworth everyone talks about.

But from my side of the family, it came about through slavery. Which in this country, is as American as "apple pie", its our history. The good, bad and the ugly.

There is a lot more I will be posting when I have the time.
I have been working on this for a least six to seven years.
So stay tune.....

Jonathan

alice texas tanner's mother was Nancy M. Ledbetter. She was born about 1848 in North Carolina. Her parent's were Lewis J. Ledbetter who was born 1825 in Rutherford co?, North Caroline. He died March 14 1861 in Dawson co. Georgia. I have her mother down as Martha ? who was born in North Carolina in 1814. Lewis J. Ledbetter's father was Johnson Ledbetter. I believe Johnson was born about 1786 in Virginia. His wife was Nancy Whiteside born abt 1792 in North Carolina.

Alice's mother, Nancy, died soon after her because Alice is living with her ledbetter Grandparents in the next census.

Alice's father was James K. Polk Tanner born in Yellow Creek co. Georgia June 7th 1845. He died in Amarillo, Potter, Texas August 29th 1913. His Father was James R. Tanner born April 1 1803 in North Carolina and died Dec. 28 1887. James K Polk's mother was Elizabeth. I have no information on her.

if you would like I could send you the links to census records.
