Have some similar names but dates are wrong!

Our James had a brother John and 3 more brothers.
Our James was married to a Maryanne Sloanne and they
had a son John Fitzjames Galway Holmes born 21st Jan
1852.

Which these would match!

The long winded name of John goes back to having so many uncles and they wanted to make sure his line was recognised!
So they added Fitzjames...the Galway goes back to his grandmother Magaret Galway.

hi, my g-g-grandfather was James Holmes (1814-1901) who moved to Aughrim parish Co. Roscommon in the 1850's. He had a bachelor brother John in the same area. James's wifes name was Mary as far as I can discern. I have traced only two offspring so far, a son John (1858-1940) who became a schoolmaster in Ballyroddy and a daughter Jane (1861-????)who did not marry. She ran the small farm after Jamess death. She was 50 in the 1911 census. I believe she sold the farm in the 1920s and have no idea what became of her. There is family folklore that a Holmes was a tutor/hedgeschool teacher in the Longford area but have not been able to confirm this. Please let me know if you stumbled across info that may shed light on the above.
Thanks,
Des.

Her mother was Margaret Smyth/Smith and at some stage she lived in either Haddington Rd or Harrington St in Dublin, we think she had a brother called Tom. My nanny was born in the Royal Maternity hospital in Belfast. If anyone can help me I would really appreciate it.
Thank you

I'm not sure - you'd have to trace your father's line back a few generations before we would know if there is a connection or not. I've only traced my HOLMES line down to my great-great grandmother Ann HOLMES, daughter of Peter HOLMES mentioned in my earlier post (born c.1805 in Kirk Ireton). Ann was born 1844 in Clayton or Bradford, Lancashire, and married George LAMB in Manchester in 1862.

thank you for your help. much appreciated.
Its whether Francis Parkinson/Gregson has any decendants that i am really researching, as he is a distant relative, his mother has married my Gt Gt uncleJohn Parkinson before she went onto marry Lewis Gregson. John Parkinson went fron the UK to the US and wed Isabella ( not sure how they came to know each other or why he was there at that time, though would love to try find out!) and after she gave birth to their son francis, john returned to the uk never to return to the US and his wife and son. Again, i have no idea why!

Holmes / Bennett: Westmorland County, New Brunswick

Subject: Holmes / Bennett

I am searching for information about James Holmes, b. about 1819, in Nova Scotia, Canada; d. Jul 3, 1892 in Rockport, Westmorland County, New Brunswick Canada.

James Holmes married Elizabeth Bennett, b. about 1823, location unknown; d. Dec 3, 1905 in Rockport, Westmorland Co., New Brunswick, Canada. I am interested in finding out who the parents of James and Elizabeth were, where James and Elizabeth were born, as well as information on their children.

It is believed that James worked as a stone cutter in a quarry. Both James and Elizabeth are buried in the Rockport Cemetery, Rockport, Westmorland Co., New Brunswick. The 1891 Canadian Census lists James and Elizabeth as living in Sackville, Westmorland Co., New Brunswick, which is close to Rockport. At the time, their sons William (b. about 1852) and George (b. about 1857) were living with them. There is also a boarder named Thomas Quinlan (b. about 1836), listed as living at the same address. According to relatives, James and Elizabeth also had the following children: John (b. about 1848), Annie (b. about 1849), Ameily (b. about 1851), Jane (b. about 1853), Mary (b. about 1864), Elizabeth (b. about 1858), James (b. about 1861), Adolphus (b. about 1862), Ella (b. about 1865), Celia (b. about 1867), and Rufus (b. about 1870).

It would be terrific to hear from anyone who has information regarding this family. I would be happy to share what information I have collected.

Hi,

I've been tracing back this Holmes line through other people's trees and have a question on Thomas' father - Christopher, who many have got down as being 1614-1634.

With this information, Christopher can't be Thomas' father because he died 18 years before Thomas was born. Does anyone have this information directly from their own passed-down family tree or research? It would be a shame to exclude anyone further down the line, but at present I can't continue.

thanks,

Daniel Pullan

Could your Martin may have been a relative of Martin F Holmes b.1859 in NY and married to Cora E.?

They lived in Iowa and Minnesota, and probably homesteaded in Hughton Sask. Canada in early 1900's. They had a son Clarence F. Holmes b. 1892 in Minnesota. Other children were:
Katharine D. b. Aug 1885, Mn.,
Martin A. b. Nov 1887 Mn.,
Claude E. b. b. Apr 1889 Mn.,
Raymond Clayton. b Feb. 1900 Mn.,

Father of Martin F is listed as Morgan Holmes b. Oct 1820 NY in the 1900 census for St Cloud, Benton, Mn.
the same census lists a bro of Martin F:
William E Holmes b. Mich. Sept 1885

A list of people coming into the US from Canada in Nov 1923 has Douglas Holmes, age 16 and Martin Arthur Holmes age 36, both of Hughton Sask, and sons of Martin F. Holmes also of Hughton. Their destination was Rapid City South Dakota.

I cannot find Hughton on a map!

Your names are so close. Raymond Clayton married my aunt Edith Pearl Crosby and I am searching his family for his daughters who live in Washington state. We would also like to find Raymonds grandaughter Dianna and grandson Raymond "Buzzy" Holmes.
