Looking for information on John H. Holstein (1852-1918) who was born in Germany. He married Mary R. (Boetcher) (1864-?) who was born in Illinois. They had 3 daughters, Anna (1893), Lillian (1895) and Rebecca (1899-1985). Rebecca is my grandmother. She married Ralph Beaman (1901-1993). They had five children, their youngest, Alice, being my mother.

There is a lot of information on my grandfather, Ralph Beaman (all of the way back to 1520 France). Don't have much on Rebecca Holstein's side. Any help would be appreciated. You can email me at smilnemurphy@sbcglobal.net.
I am looking for anyone with information on George and his daughter Maria. George had a second wife named suszanna(?) and they had 3 children. George and Maria came to Canada first, 2nd wife and children came later. Suszanna also had a previous son that stayed in Russia and went into the army (I think it was)
Anyway, the family finally came together and settled at Strasbourg, Saskatchewan, Canada and that is where most of them are buried.
I would very much like to expand on my info about George, any siblings, parents, his first wife - Maria Mother etc, etc
If you can help please write to r2_for_2@hotmail.com and remember to put holstein in the subject line.
Thank you
Will of Nicholas Holstein, Oct 9, 1769, Granville Co, NC

Abstracts of The Wills and Estate Records of Granville County, NC 1746-1808

Oct 9, 1769 Proved August 1774
Nicholas Holstein wills to his son JACOB 280 acres, together with the plantation whereon I now live, a gun and a sword; to my son John, all remainder of my land in Granville Co, NC; to daughter CATHERINE, a cow and a calf; the remainder of my estate divided to my daughters: CATHERINE, MARY, SUSANNAH, BARBARA, ELIZABETH HOLSTEIN.

Executers: William Oglivie, Hentry Wideman.
Witnesses: Robert Harris, Lavender Harris

The will does not list a wife, and I have a copy of the actual will and read it through, BUT, the record of the sale of the estate of Nicholas Holston in 1774 lists as buyers, among many names, "WIDOW HOLSTEIN" meaning there was a wife. No first name. Also "MARY HOLSTEIN" is listed as a buyer.

The Nov 1778 court settlement of the estate of Nicholas Holstein lists Henry Stator as guardian of Elizabeth Holstein (Henry married daughter Catherine who got the cow and the calf) so the "widow Holstein" must have died between 1774 and 1778.

If anyone has further information on this family please contact me, including a marriage record for Nicholas Holstein and/or his wife's name, and when Nicholas Holstein was born and where. Hold old was he when he died?

I already have these marriages:

Holston, Elizabeth Jacob Morris 15 Feb 1800
Granville Co

Holstein, Catherine Henry Straiter 31 May 1773
Granville Co

Holstein, Jacob Catherine Strador 19 Feb 1780
Granville Co

Thank you,
Gina Foster
Nicholas and Jacob Holstein of Granville County, North Carolina

I am researching the family of Jacob Holstein, who married Catherine Strador/Strator on Feb 19, 1780 in Granville County, North Carolina. Jacob's will is dated October 10, 1794 and proved Nov 1794 in Granville. Jacob apparently died after only 14 years of marriages, so all of his children were underage. His will names his wife Catherine and oldest son John, and also names "well beloved sons" and daughters, but not by name. I am looking for information on how the land and goods were divided once the children became of age, and if they were then named. Jacob was willed 280 acres of land and the plantation by his father Nicholas Holstein in his will of 1769, and then in Jacob's will he states he "bequeaths to Catherine my dearly beloved wife my land till my oldest son becomes of age. Then to be equally divided amongst my well beloved sons and to my oldest son John my shot gun...."

Any help in this regard is appreciated. I am trying to connect this Jacob Holstein to my direct ancestor Nicholas Holstein/Holston who was born to settlers of North Carolina per a family biography. My Nicholas was married to Rebecca Slight on June 16, 1812 in Jessamine County, KY but lived in Floyd County, Indiana with his family. Nicholas could be a son of this Jacob Holstein, being named for Jacob's father Nicholas. I just need to find the names of the children of Jacob and Catherine to prove it.

Any help in this regard is appreciated.

Gina Foster
GGG Granddaughter of Nicholas Holston/Holstein who married in 1812

Oops! Got that wrong, and my first post here too. John Holstein died on April 1, 1940. His wife, Virgie Holstein, died much later, in 1970, I believe.

My husband was told by his sister that John's middle name was Amos, but we've not found that on record anywhere.

Susanna
I have a copy of his death certificate. He is my husband's grandfather. His parents are listed as possibly Kelly or Kelley Holstein and Louis Pain (although I'm sure that should be Louisa Payne). his father's first name is hard to read--could be Relley, or Kelby or Kilby or Rilley or Rilby. It lists the birthplace of both parents as Kanawha County.

John died on April 1, 1935. He pre-deceased his wife by 5 years.

Susanna

Photo of Roger Hollstein purchased in Marietta, Ohio

I have recently purchased a photo of Roger Hollstein from an antique shop in Marietta, Ohio. The photo is of a young baby taken last 1800's or early 1900's. The photo is on a cardboard post card and the name is written on the back. The baby is sitting in an ornate wicker chair and has on a long light (probably white) dress with long sleeves. The baby looks to be about 6 months old and is bald.

I enjoy purchasing photos in antique shops that have a name in the hopes of getting them in the hands of a descendant. The only cost is the cost of the photo and the cost of postage.

Mrs. Charles Waldron says she is Jane Carolina Holstein's granddaughter
In her obit. she names no one except Charles Waldron
Her name is Verna Mae Cox born 4/12/1929 at Alum Creek and died 12/10/2002. No parents or children or brothers or sisters are listed in her obit. I have checked all the records that I have under the name Cox and I can not find any last name of a Midkiff or Bowman. Under Midkiff I can not find any children that belong to her. Charles and Verna are both buried at the Forks of Coal. Maybe you can find more information under the name Cox. Rosa Ellen Holstein did have a son William Valentine born 9/17/1915 and died 12/25/1993

Helen,

Do you have that Jane Caroline Holstein first husband's name was Silas Midkiff? I did find in the curry funeral records that an informant was Mrs. Charles Waldron and that mrs. bowman is buried at the Forks of Coal memorial park there in Alum Creek. so I looked up in the book for Waldrons and apparently there are alot of them buried at the Forks of Coal Memorial park and do you know the names of Jane's children?
I did look up on the chalreston newspaper site for a Mrs. Charles Waldron and I found anbituary for a Mrs. Sylvia E. Turley, and one of her sisters names was Doris Lee Waldron of Alum Creek and I looked up Doris Waldron and I found another obituary for her husbands Dennis Waldron, so I looked up in the book for Mrs Sylvia Turley and it says that her parents were watson hudson and dora pauley, so wrong one,I looked up Bowmans in the curry funeral book and nothing. Do you know if Silas Midkiff and had any children?
