Are you tired of making fruitless trips to libraries, courthouses, cemeteries, genealogy societies? How about trying the latest tool to prove, or disprove, speculative connections? We have 63 Holt and variant spellings of Holt members who have tried this new tool and all but 15 have made at least one connection and others that have disproved false paper research.
Ralph Matthew Holte obituary 1914

The Greenleaf Sentinel, Greenleaf, Kansas, Thursday, March 19, 1914
RALPH MATTHEW HOLTE
After a lingering illness with ling trouble, Ralph Matthew HOLTE, son of Mrs Susan HOLTE, departed this life, Saturday, March 14, 1914. he was born at Ballards Falls, Kansas, January 5, 1889 and was 25 years, 2 months and 9 days old.
Mat., as he was generally known, was raised on a farm north of Barnes and later years went to Barnes and learned the barber trade. he spent about six months in the state of Oregon and then returned to this section. He went from here to Concordia, where he worked at the barber trade for a time, going from there to Fort Riley, where he became the regimental barber for the 7t Cavalry, Troop I. his regiment was transferred to the Philippines in march, 1911, where he remained about two years and six months. While there he was hurt in an automobile wreck, having a few ribs broken. Following his injury, he began to cough, and the company doctor advised him to return to America. he was sick about a year before he died . He was taken to a sanitarium in New Mexico and everything possible was done to effect a cure, but all to no avail.
In addition to his mother, three brothers and two sisters, and other relatives, Mat., leaves a large circle of friends to mourn his departure. He had papers from the general in charge of his regiment, showing that he was regarded very highly by his comrades, and is spoken of as a young man of good habits.
Funeral services were conducted at the home of Hans SKOVGAARD, monday afternoon by Dr R B PEERY, who preached a very fine sermon. Many floral offerings were contributed by friends. There were quite a number from Barnes and Washington present at the funeral, also Mrs. Mary HINES from hanover and the following cousins from Morganville: Wilbur, Ben, George and Benard HOLTE. Interment was made at Maplewood cemetery.
CARD OF THANKS
To the many friends who assisted us during the late illness and death of our son and brother,m we wish to express our deepest gratitude, especially to the kind friends for their floral offerings. - Mrs Susan HOLTE and family.

DNA genealogy

I would like to invite any male Holte to join us in the Family Tree DNA Y chromosome Holt surname project. We welcome variant spellings of the surname Holt and already have one Holte member. Since the Y chromosome is passed down from father to son every generation along with the surname unchanged, it is possible to find relatives by comparing the Y chromosome profiles of our membership. So the more Holte members that we get (and others that have changed their name spellings to other variants) the better chances we have of matching someone and furthering our research. Check us out at the following websites:
http://www.familytreedna.com/public/holt
http://www.HoltFamilyDNAproject.com
Ed Holt, Project Administrator

Ben Holte, Norway, Kansas, Oregon-1865

Looking for descendants of Ben Holte who lived in Birkenes, Norway. Emigrated in 1881 to Clay Co, KS. His children Nils/Nels, Maren/Marie, Thomas, Peter, Nellie, Lewis and Ben preceded him to the US (1865-1880). His son Thomas brought Ben, his wife and daughters Mary, Odine/Dena, and Minnie to the US. Most of these family members lived out their lives in Kansas. Marie and her husband, Osman Madison and 4 children (Gusta, Olie, Osler, and Nellie) migrated to Oregon between 1880 and 1890. After his wife, Susan's death, Nels also went to Oregon. Nels and Susan had 5 children (Ben, Horace, Matt, Nellie and Mary). I believe the family of Ben/Bendiks Christenson/Kristianson may have lived in the same area of Oregon, but I don't know where they were. If someone has access to the 1900 Oregon census some of these people may be listed.

I have a new e-mail address so I just wanted to update my last post from a few years ago. My Holte line came from More Og Romsdal. I have lots of new information on this family, to much to list but the main names are:

Folkestad/Holte, Andreas(Andrew) Knudsen-b.1821 Volda Parish on Folkestad farm. d.187? in Chicago, Illinois.

Holte, Gjertrud Regine(Regina, Gina) Thoresdatter-b.1825 Sande Parish on Holte farm. died in North Dakota between (1880-1900)

Holte/Anderson, Andreas(Andrew) b. 1849 Sande Parish on Holte farm. d. 1890 Seattle, Washington

Holte/Anderson, Knud Olai (K.O.) b. 1851 Sande Parish on Holte farm. d. 1931 North Dakota

Holte/Blair, Anna(Ann, Annie) Marta(Martha) Andreasdatter b.1855 Sande Parish on Holte farm. d. 1924 Seattle, Washington.

Holte/?, Berthe(Bertha) Jensine Andreasdatter. b. 1865 Aalesund. No other information except that at one time she possibly lived in WI., and MN. One possible last name may be Hannum or Mannum.

Holte/Holt/Anderson, Joachim(Jacob) Tobias b. 1867 Aalesund. Last known location was in 1903 in Seattle, Washington.

This family moved to Aalesund around 1856 and lived there until 1870. They left for the United States in 1870 and settled in Chicago, Illinois. Not sure when/where brothers/sisters seperated and went different ways, but Knud left in 1880 with his wife?, mother, and brother Joachim. They traveled through Minnesota and then settled in North Dakota.

This family has gone by the last names of Holte, Andreasson, Andersen, Anderson. Knud was married twice, first wife was named Sarah(last name unknown) from Norway. Second wife was named Aase Matea Ellingson Knokleby b. 1867 in Buskerud and died 1941 in North Dakota.

My dead ends are Joachim and Berthe so any information is greatly appreciated.
