HOLTH - NORWAY TO NORTH DAKOTA - C. 1904

Hi there,

Looking for any information on my husband's grandfather, John Holth, b. in the 1880s in Larvik, Norway, coming to the U.S. around 1904. He was a whaler and helped settle Barlow, ND.

Any info would be highly appreciated,

Thanks so much for this record - we have been very excited and have spent our time trying to find someone who could interpret the Norwegian. Do you happen to have a translation of ALL of the information on this form? If not, could you advise me of a site or something on the internet that might help? We are in Arkansas, which is a small, poor state, and in a rural area with not much access to things like this.

The 1900 Norwegian census shows a Johan Holth born in 1885 who is then living in Sandefjord, Vestfold, Norway. Larvik is very very close.

But at least one other of similar name is also in that census not far away.
Emigration register for the port of Larvik indicates a Johan Holth leaving that port in 1904, lists birth year as 1881...
