MUSCATINE, Iowa -- Herbert A. Holtz, 87, Muscatine, died Saturday, April 9, 2005, at his home.
The Rev. Dennis Hakes will officiate the services. Casket bearers are Douglas Holtz, Gregory Holtz, Bill Payne, Steve Hubbell, Doug Umlandt and Paul Crist. Burial will be at Harker Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Walnut Park Baptist Church Missionary Fund or Unity Hospice.
Mr. Holtz was born June 1, 1917, in Muscatine, the son of John W. and Gertrude L. Sywassink Holtz. He married Ruby F. Warnstaff Feb. 8, 1944, in Muscatine.
He was a life long resident of the Muscatine area. He was a member of Walnut Park Baptist Church, where he was a Deacon, Sunday school teacher and superintendent.
He farmed all of his life. He was a member of the Eastern Iowa Poultry Association since 1953 and would show Silver Laced Wyandottes in Ohio, Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Texas, Nebraska, Missouri, Kansas and Iowa. He would ship his birds all over Canada, Puerto Rico and the United States. He was an inspector for ASCS for 25 years.
He enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Gary W. Holtz and wife Betty of Fairborn, Ohio; a daughter, Bonnie K. Paul and husband Garry of Muscatine; a brother, Ernest C. Holtz of Rockford, Ill.; three grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Clarence, John and Edward Holtz
